Charles Diary. Feel free to help out!

You are doing well Charles & learning a lot about nutrition, exercise & yourself. Changing to drinking water regularly is a biggie. Well done on the positive changes to your lifestyle. You are at the right age to make life-long healthy habits which you will always benefit from. Cheers, Cate

Day 7!!

Breakfast: Leftover burrito meat with cheese. (Out of burrito meat now. ;-;)
Lunch: 2 servings of peas and corn (It was 3.5 servings but I couldn't finish it...) and 1 can of plain tuna.
Snack: 1 banana. (Was hungry so assumed my body needed the nutrients, I made sure I wasn't secretly thirsty.)
Dinner: Leftover chicken from yesterday. (We had pizza today but I chose not to eat any.)
Daily Exercise: None, took the day off from exercising to heal up!
Liquid Intake: Only water.

NOTES:
If I have nothing for lunch tomorrow, may have a slice of pizza since I forgot to prepare food for myself. (I'll try to avoid it even though pizza isn't really one of the foods I'm trying my 'hardest' to avoid especially now that I've cut my wheat/gluten intake.)

Also what do you guys think about me trying something sugary on Day 14? I'm sort of curious on how I'll feel about something small like a piece of chocolate.

It does´t have any nutritional value, of course, but if it is something you would otherwise crave and binge on a little bit might be a good idea. For me it´s sudden death/poison/a black hole/the end of all self control :D

When I was being good and lost a ton of weight, I had chocolate just about everyday. It was only one or two little pieces of Dove dark chocolate though. If you can be satisfied with just a little bit, and not go overboard, I don't think there's anything wrong with it. I think in the end it helped satisfy the craving, so that I didn't sit down and eat a whole bag of it. :)

I won't overdo it.

I don't really have any cravings. I want to try it out of curiosity more then anything. I know it won't ruin my self control because I didn't really change at all when I had that burrito on Day 5 and I know my personality. :) (I mean I didn't start craving wheat after having one burrito)

Can just eating one of something daily solve a craving? My thoughts of craving right now is to completely ignore them. The last craving I had was for a Cadbury Creme Egg and that was on the first day of the weight loss diary. I kept going back and forth wanting it but in the end I walked away from it knowing that if I ate it I would not have the potential to lose weight if my will was that weak...

I could right a novel on this subject, but to be short... I think it depends on the person. For me personally, and I'll be completely honest... It depends on how much willpower I have at the time and my mood. When I'm doing really sucky... like I am right now.... No. It doesn't satisfy my craving.

At one point though I was very determined, in the zone, and it worked. I had one or two pieces, and I was fine with it. I told myself that it was within my calories, and I could have some more the next day. Was I super thrilled with only having a piece or two? Nope! haha! BUT, I could live with it, knowing that I could have some more tomorrow, and I was happy about getting some chocolate at least. I lost about 90 lbs eating everything in moderation. I didn't deny myself anything. I'm not saying there weren't bad days. There were lots. But overall it worked for me at the time. I should also note that I'm also the type the person that if I'm super strict, I fall off the wagon real quick. I need something to look forward to everyday, even if its something small.

If you know you'd be ok with just one, and it's not going to turn into something more, then I don't see any reason to not do it. As long as it's within the limits you've set for yourself...meaning calories, carbs, or whatever. If you find that it's not worth it to you, and it messes with your self control. Don't do it. :)

Sigh.. that wasn't short. Sorry. haha!

You're young, man. Really young. And, I don't mean that in a negative way - it's a good thing.

I'm 34 years old and I've been battling the bulge for most of my life. Some years I've been in very good shape, others I've been a disgusting blob of horror. With all of my ups and downs, the one thing I've noticed over the years is the following...

DO IT WHILE YOU'RE YOUNG

When I was younger, I could work out all day long and be totally fine. Now, at the age of 34 years, I do one simple workout and I'm wrecked for days.

It's good that you're doing this while your body is still able to move forward. Good job, man. Keep it up.

Thanks. :)
I do appreciate that I feel like doing all this now rather then later. (Like years later)

Day 8!!

Breakfast: 1 can of plain tuna. (shared a little with cat)
Lunch: 1 banana. (It was either pizza or this.)
Dinner: Roast chicken, corn and cucumbers.
Daily Exercise: 34 minutes of walking and about 1 hour and 30 minutes of practicing dribbling (basketball).
Liquid Intake: Only water.

NOTES:
You know, food diaries are really good.
The though that I have to put every single item I eat on here to re-see them later can be reassuring or tormenting.
For example, I eat 2x as much of a meal or have a snack that i'm not meant to have, I have to put that on here so of course my will to avoid that would
support the diet.
Online diaries can provide support to improve your diet or increase motivation.

I'm thankful for all of you and am so glad I did this! Every comment really does help me keep going. :)

Keeping a journal is one of the few things that is proven to have a long term beneficial effect on weight loss. O, and what Chef forgot to mention: if you get into shape now and stay that way you will NOT be exhausted for days after a single workout by the time you´re 34. That´s a promise.

Keeping a journal does keep yourself accountable & there is great support in here. This is certainly the best time to be making long-term healthy changes & developing new good habits. Keep up the good work Charles. I loved the sharing of tuna with your cat :D

Day 9!!

Breakfast:1 scrambled egg (Made it good this time)
Lunch: 1 banana.
Dinner: Cob of corn and 1 banana.
Daily Exercise: 1 hour and 4 minutes of walking with about 2 hours of basketball practice.
Liquid Intake: Only water.

WEEKLY WEIGHT IN: 102.2kg! (I Lost 6.4kg!)

NOTES:
I'm prepared for next week to be a little less productive but it's nice to know my work has paid off so well.
Also, after looking through this again I realized I've ate tuna every single day so I decided to take a break from it today.

Considering how much you are exercising personally I think you need more protein. And congrats on the loss, great work!

If you think so then sure. :)
So how much would you think?
Like maybe one or two scrambled eggs for breakfast and some meat/tuna later on in the day?

Giaz, what would you estimate your bodyfat % is, this will allow for a better calculation of how much protein you need to be consuming.

I'm not sure how much body fat I have.
I may just increase the amount of overall protein I eat, what i'm doing now can't be remotely as bad as what I did before diet wise after-all.

I will be careful though.

I think you started out all this very well and since on most days you do eat more protein I don´t think there is currently anything to worry about. Crazy amount lost so far!
