Change Of Focus

Afternoon!

I have decided to change focus from weight training to more Cardio. I want to reduce my BF a bit before I turn to weight training so that I do not get any bigger i.e turning my fat into muscle.

I would like to reduce my overall frame a little but might continue some light weight training for say 15 - 20 reps a time, what do you think?

In a nutshell I want to trim down the gut and the upper body and will be watching my diet but increasing cardio to get the effect.

I currently weigh 83KG and am 178bm tall so am not grossly overweight.

Any suggestions recommended....

Regards

Gavin

well, you basicly want to cut, its all about diet. And you dont have to stop hitting the weights.. 15-20 reps, is your goal muscular endurance?
By weight training you wont turn fat into muscle, that is impossible, its one of the biggest myths about fitness. When you put on muscle mass its because you have more calories inn than out and some of those calories goes to building muscle. If you weight train and have more calories out than inn, you shouldnt gain muscle mass, but the weight training is a good way to not loose all the strenght you have gained.

Thanks Karky that is a great help and a good explanation. Where can I find out how many calories I should be focussing on taking in daily?

Thanks again

hmm.. there im no expert, you should find your maintence level, the ammount of calories which will make your weight stay what it is, and if you are cutting, you should cut some off from that, how much im not sure, ive heard you should cut 500 cals, or cut 10%.. the point is, dont cut too much, as your body will go into starvation mode and you wont loose weight.
Im sure someone who knows more than me about cutting can chime inn, im not exactly a weight loss specialist :p

and another importaint thing, eat 6 times a day with about 3 hours in between, it will keep your metabolism up during the day! :)
