Challenges to make work outs more interesting!!

So, I’ve been trying to get to down to the gym three times a week because I’ve put on about a stone in the last six months and am flabby with slight man boobs!

My problem with the gym is I’ve always found it pretty damn boring. My mate came across these fitness challenges on this website and we have been pounding them for the last week. Makes it a bit more interesting as we are both in similar physical shapes and competitive with each other!

Anyone want in? I’ll post a challenge here occasionally and people can post their scores. (I need all the incentive I can get to workout! lol)

I managed 36 pushups in a minute. My mate managed 37. I need to beat him, so I’m practicing in the morning and night. I probably should ease up a bit lol

Any words of wisdom regarding getting my pushup tally better? Anyone fancy giving it a go?

Generally, I couldn't care less about push up challenges, but I decided to give it a go for you. Feel special. The only recordings on the website are of people doing partial reps, instead of going from chest touching grouund to lockout. Last time I did push ups as an exercise, I was only doing 3x12, full ROM, slow and controlled. I decided today to pile up some books on the ground as high as my fist on the ground, since I've always known push up tests to be done going down to a fist's distance from the ground at chest level. I've also always known push up tests to determine that if you reach the point where you can't do any more reps, it doesn't matter that there's still time on the clock - you're done. So the rules I abided by were: I had to touch the highest book with my chest on every rep; I had to lock out at the top in every rep; I had to have knees off the ground; I had up to 1 minute; and if I stopped short of 1min, that's it.

Abiding by those rules, I got 33, being unable to continue after 45 sec.

With regards to improving your score, just do it. Back in the day, I was doing 150 push ups (although I don't know how complete my ROM was) in a set, and I got there over 3-4 months from initially only being able to do about 5reps. I got there by doing 10 sets/day. Get up in the morning, do push ups, shower, do push ups, eat breakfast, do push ups, go to school, do push ups, have morning tea, do push ups, have lunch, do push ups, go home, do push ups, watch TV, do push ups, eat dinner, do push ups, have dessert, do push ups.

I'm not saying it's the best way to go about it, but I know I never got results even close to that doing push ups 3 days/week - when I have done 3/week (which is good for strength training), my push up numbers have always stayed around 10-30. This may just be the result of having different goals, however.
