Cate's Diary

"clucky" around dogs? Sounds like feathers will fly! :p

More seriously, though - Cate, it's really great to read that you're coming down from the high tensions, full-on action of the past ... what was it? week-and-a-bit? ... and enjoying your garden, and surrounding bush, and the thoughts of a possible new dog. I'm really glad! :hug2:

Hi, Amy. I have really tried hard to see how I would go without getting a dog. It has been almost a year now.
I pitched the idea to G yesterday & have mapped out a potential yard which could either be a dog yard or a veggie garden(animal proof). I messaged G1's son to let him know that we'll go ahead with it.
I'm feeling really good. Got lots of mulching done. Now we need some rain!

Getting a new dog would be great! Animals are wonderful, no matter how allergic I am.
I think so too, LaMa. I think the benefits of having a dog, especially for mental health & wellbeing far outweigh the negatives, like being totally responsible for them. Since I made the decision, every time I think about it I smile.
I will get a dog that does not moult though as I really react a lot to dog hair. I'll get the yard set up first so that I have more options. I don't want this dog living inside.
OK. It's time to get back out into the garden & do some more mulching!

Hi Cate,

I never had I dog, but I enjoy looking at them. They're so in the moment. Once I saw a white, blue-eyed Siberian Huskie gazing so intently at something in the distance, with such utter stillness and focus, it was breathtaking. Dogs have great posture.

It sounds like a great idea, I'm sure you'll love it.

That is great you are getting a dog. Pets bring so much joy to life. I hope you can find a breed that does not shed too much. I have a long-hair cat and although I don't have allergies, the upkeep (brushing and vacuuming) is a lot to handle.

My life is too hither-and-yon to have a dog right now, but I would like one. Labradors are good - a nice size without being overpowering, and of equable temperament; you could maybe take in a guide dogs school reject - cheerful, past puppyhood and looking for a home! Mind you, that sounds so appealing that I expect they're in high demand - but the price would be funding a great organisation, so there's that. :)

Hi, Jack. Do you have a dog? If you retire you might be able to get one :)
Hi, Want2Lose. I'll be careful which breed I get even if it takes me longer.
Hi, Amy. I'm really giving this lots of thought. A lab would be too heavy for me to lift.
I got lots of gardening done before a wild storm. It hailed. I had managed to get our woollen underlay & sheets in off the line just before it started raining!
Having a good day :)

Cate well we are a family of dog lovers and I agree with all the aspects of them ticking boxes for mental health. Our retriever is like my other child. The hair is a problem but worth it. I love her coming and putting her head in my lap .

If you are getting a small non shedding dog I can't see how you leave it outside . Our dogs always crept their way inside crafty creatures lol .

Happy to read you are busy and feeling much better . You deserve some good times now . Where are you going on your next holiday ?

Hope you´re enjoying the sounds of the storm from the safety of your cozy home :grouphug:
I did, but it didn't last long, LaMa & I got back out into the garden. I think I will hurt tomorrow, but it will have been worth it.
Oh, Petal, I know the dog will come inside, but I also want it to spend time outside & preferably sleep outside. I'm a pathetic softy, when it comes to dogs & I'm trying to be sensible. We have all sliding double-glazed doors so can't have a doggy door.

So, it's the 1st of December. Time to set some goals (again).
I have at long last synced my new phone to my Fitbit & MFP.
My goals for December are-
<1500 cals per day
>5,000 steps per day.
Golf at least once a week.
> 10 mins a day gardening (this can be my December meditation).
*Edit. If it's raining, I make up my steps with km on my exercise bike. Just did 5.15 km.
Weigh myself every Tuesday & Friday.
All of this is realistic & achievable.
Edit again-
Wear sunscreen every day,
Moisturise every night

Ah - yes, about the notional Lab - they are a pretty solid breed. Something in the Jack Russel line, maybe?
And December goals! Well done for getting them set - I'll profit by your example. :)

Jack Russels shed like crazy, Amy. :)
I wish my goal was maintenance but I'll get back there & join you & LaMa.
10 kg to go!

What an ignorant clot I am! (about the Jack Russells, but I daresay about many other things as well :D ). Well, I won't make any more WAGs (as Rob says) but you're making me so aware - you, and the stories of Cam and of Misty - of how very much pleasure an alert, companionable little dog would give!

You are so not an ignorant clot. Don't put yourself down, please, Amy. I do it too & it should stop, xoxo
