Cate's Diary

Yep, city. I haven't used the expression for ages. It's hard to find words to cover our local town & the 2 cities we live between, without actually naming them. It's a small place & I try to keep some anonymity.
Local town(11km away) -D town, city(60km) - L city, other city(40km) D city.
I miss being with the family Chef. It really was a great trip & we all got along very well. My niece has flown back to Canada now. Her sister will miss her madly!
I'm off to golf soon. I won't be playing next week as it's G's op & most probably won't go to the Christmas breakup the week after. It depends on how he is.
Bye for now xoC

I worked from 8am to 5.30pm yesterday, doing the bar & some kitchen work at the golf club for an annual Vets' tournament that we host. It was a really good day, but very tiring.
Today G & I went to D city & picked up frozen chooks & burgers for the club, beanbags for the kids & D for Christmas, 9 bags of fill, frozen octopus & Tiger prawns for us for Christmas, fresh Atlantic Salmon fillets, 1 dozen oysters( entree tonight :D ) & a pair of sandals each. That all fitted in our little Kia Rio! It was very funny!
I'm now having a lazy afternoon!

It's kind of like the '12 Days of Christmas' song, but ending with a triumphant -

And a pair of sandals each!!!!

:D

Hi LaMa. The only food we ate that night was 6 oysters each. They were disappointing. We had some of the salmon last night with D & the GK's. It was delicious. The prawns will get consumed on Christmas night. I love Tiger or king prawns. We both hate over-eating so that rarely happens.
Hi Hana. Yes, we don't usually eat turkey. We love seafood. If you have Christmas lunch anywhere else there is almost always Turkey, but I'm not a big fan. Our son, D, does not eat poultry at all. He loves chooks. We gave him & the kids a chook pen & 3 laying chooks a few years ago for Christmas. He rang last night, upset, as he had accidentally run one over. The kids were in the car with him. He told me he really loves those chooks. Poor D!
Hi Emilyrose. You made me laugh! It was a bit like that :D
Hi Nyzeh. I love when I have had a big day & can just chill. I love getting back home, knowing I don't have to go anywhere for the rest of the day.

I had a good day with the GK's yesterday. A. did some gardening for me. It is worth a try getting him to do some work to earn some money, but it would be easier doing it myself. He's a lovely kid & he needs to earn some money. He is stymied until he is 18 when he can legally change his name, get a tax file number etc. His mother will just not get around to it. Poor kid.

3 days from now G will be in hospital about to have his op. Eek.

We are going out to the golf club this afternoon to open the bar for a small group. It will be the last thing we do out there for quite a while. The barmaid is quitting after C'mas as she has been offered a full-time job where she is working now. I'm happy for her. It will be hard to find someone to do what she does at the club. I entertained the thought for about 2 minutes only. No way.

I had better try to catch up with diaries, xoxo Cate

Thanks, Katy. We'll be at home Tuesday as G has to take sachets that will clear him out & won't be able to stray from the toilet! I'll use it as an opportunity to do a 500 cal fast.

:) My parents have always had chickens and when they stopped laying eggs they would be... "pensioned off" to my grandad andhe´d give us some young ones in return (he had a huge garden full of chickens, ducks, geese, peacocks, pheasants, pigeons and even quails). It took a while for me to realize it didn´t make sense for him to take back our old chickens instead of just adding a couple of new ones to our flock as we had so much more room for them :p

Great big hugs, Cate (I´m sure you´re happy to pass some on to G).

Your grandad didn't serve you up chicken soup, did he LaMa? :)
Thanks for the hugs. I am starting to get very nervous. This time in 2 days time G will be in the hospital, about to be operated on. I am really hopeful that the Cancer will still be localised to his Prostate, but can't help but be a little nervous as well. I'm only human. I have been trying not to think about it much.
D is coming up after work to do some brush cutting for us, which will be good. It is starting to look like a bit of a jungle with all the Spring growth.
I still haven't decided if I am going to stay with one of G's sisters or his brother. I would prefer to stay in an accommodation place, but they are too expensive. The hospital has some accom. for patients & families & I don't know if I would be eligible to stay there. It doesn't hurt to ring & ask I guess. I could drive home each day, but that may be too tiring. It's a 120km return trip each time. I will ring this morning & find out I think. They have 20 beds & they are probably taken.
OK- better scoot. I'll have time to kill when G is in hospital & will check the forum to help me pass the time & tune out. I might just read "The Book Thief." I got it from the library as I had read great reviews. G loved it.
OK- better scoot. xoC

I´m not going to say "don´t worry" because there is no way you´d be able to do not worry but I will say: take care of yourself. G will be more relaxed and therefore more likely to recover quickly if he knows you´re looking after yourself. Plus, of course, you´re a nice person who deserves nice things.
