Cate's Diary

Again, very beautiful house! Did you design/have it built Cate or did you buy it like that? It looks nice and spacious for 2 people--I would like that if i had a partner so that we wouldn't have to be on top of each other all the time--especially in isolation times!

Nice work on the fasting!

Cate you are flying on the walking . 2 a day is great. It's good to be back on track

Not likely, I enjoy all the photos I see here, particularly those of the people on the forum and their environs. Kind of helps me put a bit more substance to the person. And your home and environs are particularly photogenic!
I'll keep them up now :)
Cate - there's so much in your life! - I'm glad G's finger is mending, and that you weren't in touch with the affected hospital - and very sorry about the family break-up, leaving your son cut off for that time from his children. :grouphug: hugs to you for all you're dealing with...
Your house is beautiful, and beautifully located - the room in the last photos has such a calming, serene warmth to it. and hugs again! :grouphug:
Thanks, Amy. That's our bedroom & it is a really peaceful room. I'm glad we headed in the other direction with the hospital. It's scary.

Thanks, Liza. I gave an architect a rough plan of what I wanted & where & he came up with an amazing house. A builder friend built the house & another stonemason friend did the stonework. We never thought it would just be us living here & it's very spacious, but it does not require much maintenance & I love having all the space, especially now.

Thanks, Petal. Yes it is excellent being back on track :)
:p You´re still on speaking terms then? That puts you miles ahead of a lot of couples right now!
Haha. We have had our moments in the last week, but we are sound. G is getting very impatient. Having the hand injury he is finding very frustrating. We have survived a lot & we will survive this. Well I hope we do! Our marriage will anyway :beating:

I haven't been for my second walk yet today as I have been on the phone for hours. I have rung 2 of my female golfing buddies & messaged another, who's husband died over Easter. She is devastated. We can't go to his funeral & can't visit her either. Only 10 are allowed at funerals including the minister & the pallbearers. Sad!
I rang my brother, who was driving, our younger son, R & messaged our younger grandkids. They are not exercising & hopefully my suggestions will sink in. I miss them.
Our older son is in the area that is in lockdown & he has been diverted to a workplace closer to him. He had to get police permission to get there.

G & I are doing pretty well really. We are making sure we don't lose touch with the people we care about & will continue with that.

That´s probably the most important thing for now. Well: that, good food, and exercise :p Well done giving your offspring a bit of a nudge. I can kind of understand G´s impatience but if he doesn´t watch what he does right now it´ll only take longer - and the end result will not be as good as it could be.

I miss them.
Being cut off is hard. It will finish, and maybe not too long away, now, I hope - but in the meantime, it's so clearly making a difference. I'd hate to see restrictions lifted before at least another fortnight - maybe till the end of May?
The emotional strains and fallout are real, though, from separation and from joblessness and from people losing a sense of who they are - some state governments are throwing extra money into mental health services (and NGOs) for that reason, which is a good start, but it'll need thought as well as money.

Cate, your house is so gorgeous, it's like something out of a film! Just fabulous.

It is very sad about funerals right now, it's so hard on the families. It's nice to get that support from loads of people, it's a great distraction when you are still in the shock of it. I feel you probably have to deal with the grief very quickly now.

Get those grandkids exercising! I love you and G. xx

I did remind him of that, plus reminded him how embarrassing it would be to have to tell them what a stupid thing he did.

I definitely don't want them to lift the restrictions for quite a while yet. We are at a critical time here in Tassie.

Thanks, Em. We love it.
I hope I can get the GK's exercising. I'm tempted to get them a Fitbit each, but maybe as a thing for when this is all over.
That's sweet of you to say. I think we are lucky to have one another.

I'll add a photo today of something our older son saw at work yesterday. What a workplace :beating: I would be quite happy if he was to really like working there & got to stay. He would have so much less travel on the roads.

LOVE that picture Cate--so cute!

That's really great to have those deep connections to your house. So many buildings nowadays lack that connection and care.

Hi, Liza & Rob. I love kangaroos. We don't have any up here but have lots of wallabies, potaroos & pademelons. This national Park is about 50 km away.

Wild mammals are always a joy to see (birds too, but you get used to what you have). And a job you enjoy is something to treasure.

We love the birds too, LaMa with the possible exception of the wattlebirds who make a truly awful sound.

I´m always happy to listen to birds, even those with more... eccentric... calls like that one, but I´m rarely patient enough to hunker down and watch them closely (unless they happen to be chilling somewhere near where I also happen to be sitting. Much more patient for mammals, even something like a mouse. I guess I´m a speciesist. Or a cladist?

Hi, LaMa. We have the birds come to us so observe them flitting in and out of the birdbath just outside our living room while we chill out in our recliners. I had to look up cladist :) Mammals are more interesting to me too I must admit. We have had an ongoing family discussion about the bigger hoppers we see occasionally on our land. D keeps telling us they are Bennetts wallabies & we keep thinking they are kangaroos. He's right.
Hi, Em. D had 47 sightings of kangaroos in one day. It looks like he'll be working there for quite a while, which will be good. I'm happy that he is not driving so far each day. I love where he is working right now.

I stuffed up yesterday by forgetting to check my Fitbit & doing some more laps around the house to get my steps up. I won't make that mistake again. It rained almost the whole day, but I managed to go for a walk in the afternoon when it briefly stopped. I also found 2 lovely mushrooms, which will part of my main meal today.
I'm fasting today. I woke up hungry, unfortunately.

Just got back home from a 3.75 km walk.
Saw lots of little critters today- bright yellow worms, caterpillars, skinks, grasshoppers, wrens, a grey goshawk, patted a dog, said hi to 3 neighbours, waved to a couple of others & am back home again now. It's almost noon & I have not eaten yet :)

Hey, I like your Waddle Bird, song and all, actually quite interesting. I really like your description of your walk, you are very observant, I think that makes a walk more fun. And another nice picture you certainly live in a beautiful place.

Hope the fast day goes well for you.

You know the Mormons fast the first Sunday of every month and give the money they save to the Church, so we have a lot of fasting around here (the county I live in is about 90% Mormon). I have tried fasting a few times, but it never worked well for me. I think its working better for you, the planned IF thing is a better approach than I used.

Have a good day!

I'm with Rob, I like those wattlebird calls :)
Sounds like a lovely walk, and wow that picture!! what a gorgeous area!

You're braver than me, eating wild mushrooms! I'd love to know enough about them to do so though.
