Cate's Diary

It's hard to explain about D's "new" home situation as I don't really understand it myself. She has a 3 bedroom house & has 3 daughters. The older daughters had a fight with their mum & moved out & into a place together. The youngest daughter moved into the bigger bedroom of the two & then when E & C stayed at the weekend they shared the smallest bedroom. Then the older girl threw her sister out(I won't even bother telling you what that was about :svengo: ) & she moved back into her Mum's house & back into her old room (I think) & there is now not a spare room for E & C.
I don´t even know what to say.

Lo yes Cate that does sound very messy and complicated but what a result you are getting grandkid and son time . How wonderful .
A friend was telling me the other night about their friends complicated kids life . I have to say I got completely lost And confused by it all . Some people’s lives are over complicated.

Gardening sounds great. I’m having problems with time for everything right now . Would so love a week off work just to catch up with life outside of work but that would create work havoc . Will do my gardening through reading about yours for now

I loved hearing about you gardening with G. :)

About the complicated lives and living situations... yes, complicated is about all that can be said. I guess every family has complexities, somewhere or other - salute to those who can navigate the tricky parts with grace, courage, resilience and kindness.

Hi, 101. Gardening is very rewarding & I find it an excellent way to get lots of exercise without it feeling like a chore. We worked on a garden bed that had started as a half-arsed attempt at a garden bed, outside our entrance & that had been annoying me for aaages! Some wild sheep had "visited" & had eaten half of it & I had never gone back & completed it. I decided the time had come, but I needed G's help to dig out some Winter flowering red-hot pokers & daffodils to fill it up. Wallabies don't eat them. We put wood chip around the plants, but now I want to go back & fill up all the gaps & do a rock border. That was clever of me! :D I just told G what I was going to do today & he said that he should help me cart the rocks. "I had better help you with that I think. You shouldn't be carting rocks." I'm happy for him to help me. I'm still getting dizzy getting up & down & I want this job done. :D
Hi, Petal. No- it's the stiff, aching right hand mainly. Actually, at night I sometimes ache all over at night, but by morning I'm ok again. Oh, well. I keep on going & today is going to be another big day & tomorrow is golf. Golf is very hard on your body- all that twisting!
This morning is bird morning. Our birdbath is a little happy place for birds & for us. We have seen at least 5 different bird species this morning :)

I just got a phone call from someone asking me if I wanted some wood chips & had to race & throw some clothes on quickly as he was down near our letterboxes. The electricity people come around every couple of years checking the power lines & clearing trees that are growing up under them. We knew one of the young guys from when we had the pub & he asked if we wanted some chips. I quickly said, "Yes, please." This was another guy & I nearly didn't answer my phone as it was a number that wasn't in it. They had a great big truck full of chips that are quite fine & mostly gum. When the guy said, "Would you like some more?" I quickly piped in before G had a chance to be his usual polite self & said "We will take whatever you can spare" & he said that's great because they are always looking for "somewhere to dump it". YAY!! I said I would ask my neighbour as well & he said that would be good. Double YAY! Now G & I can use the new chip around our plants & save the old chip for when I do pots & we don't have to drive 63 km in our old ute to get a ute load for $60. :D :D:D HAPPY!

That's absolutely great Cate . We have to buy it here and it's so expensive. That's a real stroke of luck. Happy gardening to you today

The load we had delivered today would have been 10 times what we bought the other day. The stuff we bought was ready to use, even near plants, but this stuff will be great for suppressing weeds & will break down with time.
G & I got this job done today-
Garden outside the gate 17092019 (2).jpg
I had put the old stuff around the plants but then filled all the gaps with the new stuff. It took us a couple of hours collecting & placing the rocks. I also caught up with my neighbour & asked her if she would like a truckload in a couple of weeks.
I have really enjoyed the day. I bought some Tasmanian wild seeds & needed to look up how big they'll grow etc. I had no idea when I ordered how many seeds I would get for my $5.50 a bag & I have ended up with thousands of these, which is funny!-
Callistemon
I think I bit off more than I can chew unless I want to start a Callistemon nursery
.

Wow, I love old farm machinery, and love the semi-circular bed with the stone border and the big hay reaper, or whatever that's called, and the round bed look great together! I thought I had written last night about how happy I am for you getting free wood chips! I need a huge load here, too, and often see piles along the road and wish they were mine. Sounds like you got terrific exercise the last few days. I have been thinking I'll sprinkle wildflower seed everywhere this fall so I have spring wildflowers. We call Callistemon bottle brush, and K likes to pull out the older flower petals and suck out the nectar like with honey suckle. It looks funny with a mouthful of spike-y red fringe sticking out of your mouth. Anyway, now when you drive up to your place, you get to enjoy the fruits of your labor every time! Nice!!

Win-win on the woodchips! I love it when things work out like that. And thank you for the glimpse of the results of your gardening - that's a great feel at the gate, with a real sense of place. :)
Callistemon nursery? Why not? :D

Hi, Marsia. The old farm machinery was on our block when we bought it & belonged to the neighbour who now lives above us. She has old farm machinery dotted around her land. I'm glad she left it there. I move it around a little but like it there. I'm really happy with our garden bed. I'll probably add something evergreen between the red hot pokers, but the wallabies love most things. Maybe a couple of leucadendrons. We call Callistemons bottle brushes too. I have got lots of exercise the last few days. It's such rewarding exercise but my right hand is so stiff & sore.
Hi, Amy. Thank you. I do have to buy lots of potting mix now though to start potting up the Callistemons. Maybe I'll have a stall at a market?

I'm off to golf early this morning & not looking forward to it as the AGM is afterwards. I can't be coerced into any position now, but want to bring something up that I'm quite sure will be howled down. I'm going to try anyway. The women voted last year to change the system used each week. Most clubs, including the men & the vets at ours, divide the numbers played each week into 2 divisions(as closely as possible). The women have an unequal system divided into A grade, where there is only a small number of players & B grade where the majority of longer handicapped, older players are. Each week consistency points are allocated in each grade so that the same 2 in A grade usually get consistency points, swapped around between them each week. In the much bigger group, it varies as there are more numbers. I think we should not have any divisions or grades, except for club championships. Having a handicap in golf is meant to put everyone on a level playing field & this would be fairer for everyone. The 2 who usually get winner & runner up in A division will most probably howl me down. They are so bossy. When we had the fairer system & I used to sometimes be in Div 1 & sometimes in Div 2 one of them actually said that I would sometimes steal their points. I was gobsmacked. It is a them & us clique & would be best left behind. It is such a small club with very few members. Wish me luck!

Do they win prizes in their grade all the time? Doesn't seem like a fair system if so. If it's bothering you, say it. I'm sure there are plenty that will agree, although they might only voice that privately afterwards! Such is the way. I do think (and have experienced in my own life) that the more yourself you are, the more others around you become more themselves. The masks fade away and it leads to a lot healthier environment.

I am in such a rage that I can't even try to put it into words. "Drama club" doesn't come even close, LaMa, but I think I'll use that one. They sure know how I feel & are most probably still out there bitching about me. I do not need this drama. There are 3 of them that are quite vicious, but I let them know how I feel (without swearing). It isn't a fair system but they don't see it as such. When I said that that it felt like us & them I had that thrown back at me by one of the three, who was almost snarling. I'm just going to cool down now & go around all of the diaries until I have calmed down.
I really do not like getting angry. It is not at all good for me.
