Carrie's at "SQUARE ONE"

Now doesn't it feel good to get that all out there? :biggrinjester: Really, your bmi is about where mine was when I started. I'd say eating between 1600-1800 calories a day would be a good range for you.

Congrats on all the exercise you've done this week! I know you don't find it all that enjoyable--but I bet you will eventually.

As to losing 3lbs a week, that's a great rate, but it probably won't last so enjoy it while it does. :D 2lbs is about what to expect, and less as you get closer to your goal. There is nothing wrong in getting there slowly, either. I find that people who take it off really fast often struggle with maintenance and put it back on quickly, whereas those who lose at a slower rate tend to have fewer troubles keeping it off. :)

Hey everyone!

It's been a couple days since the last post, but I'm still hanging in there! I've been under 1500 Sunday and yesterday, and I did exercise on Sunday. A lot has been happening with my family and work, and it are things that would usually make me bury my feelings under fast food, and while I did almost fall off, the fact that I'm writing this entry is...something. And I DID lose! I'm excited for my loss, and while some of it is due to a new, kinder scale, I'm STILL excited, LOL.

Today was comparatively so much better than the last couple days. Since I started this journey, I feel like I'm treating myself as a friend. I actually take CARE of myself- I take vitamins, I wear sunscreen, I FLOSS for pete's sake. Then this weekend happened, I completely jumped my own ship to devote myself to everyone else. And I hate that. I'm still struggling so much with being OK in the midst of trouble. I do really well when everything is fine and dandy, but throw one curve ball at me and I just totally give up on myself.

Anyway, today:

8am
Kashi cereal

12pm
2 slices whole wheat bread, turkey, cheese, condiments

3pm
Subway sandwich
cup of watermelon

8pm
1 drumstick bbq
2 oz steak
1/2 corn on cob
1 bite chocolate cake

Maybe I'm missing something, but it sounds to me like you managed to do quite well, despite any curveballs being thrown your way. :)

Congrats on sticking with the program and LOSING some weight!!!

Have you thought about starting a ticker? I love hitting a new low and changing mine to reflect it. :D

Hi Carrie

I agree with Kimberly. You have retained a focus on what you need to do for you despite curveballs. Dont beat yourself up if you miss something out of your schedule of things that you try to do these days - focus on all the things that you still did - despite the world ganging up on you.

I am pleased that I am pretty much on track despite recent events - yet anyone who looks closely at my diary will note that my creaming has been pretty much abandoned as have my ankle exercises. Naturally my walking is at reduced levels too.

You must view things the same way. Focus on the bits that you continued to get right - not the bits that got dropped.

Well done for losing weight. That is always a great reward.

Take care
Love
Margaret

You're doing so magnificently well! I'm really excited to see how much progress you're making, and it's lovely to hear that you're really taking care of yourself. That's so hard to do sometimes, especially when everything else seems to get in the way.

Today I found that I am uninsurable because of my BMI, and now everyone at HR at work knows it too. Then, as if on cue, I started feeling sick. I've been making progress- 10 pounds is something! But this was just a terrible blow. I hate constantly being a downer...but things have just been...down lately. Thanks to everyone for their constant support, I appreciate it more than you know...I just don't know what to do now.

Hi Carrie

I am sorry that you are feeling sick.

Did they say what BMI would be insurable for you. I know that over 40 is classed as morbidly obese - will you be able to get insurance if you get under 40?

I see that your BMI is 44.1.

I have just checked my records and my BMI was 44.1 when I weighed 17st11
which I got down to on 29th May last year.

My BMI was just under 40 when I was 16st1 which I got to on 24th July last year.

That means that it only took me less than two months to bring my BMI down from where you are to out of morbid obesity.

I would suggest that you look after your ailments and try to get this knowledge to drive you towards getting that weightloss. Two months is not a very long time if you cast your mind back to what you were doing two months ago. Maybe in two months time this whole situation will be solved for life. So what if HR know something that in a couple of month's time will be a historical fact about you. When you sort it out you can tell HR that it is no longer the case and have great insurance.

Take care
Love
Margaret

I'm surprised that you are considered uninsurable. My mother is very morbidly obese--5'3" and about 400lbs--and she never had any trouble with insurance. I'm surprised they even know what you weigh. I just got on my H's insurance (after almost 6yrs of having no insurance at all) and no one ever asked what my weight was. Have you looked into other options? Well, I guess you have more motivation for losing weight, right? Stick with it, girl--the payoff is soooo worth it. :)

And you're right--10lbs is DEFINITELY something to be proud of. And it will only get better. 10lbs will soon turn into 15, and then 20, 30 etc. :hurray:

Margaret Thank you so much for your encouragement. I am feeling better today, maybe it was just anxiety? I worked it out, and I'd need to lose about 35 pounds to get my BMI below 40...I'm doing the best I can now, and 40 pound feel like eons away...oh well, what else am I going to do? Just keep plowing on, I suppose.

Kimberly Honestly, it really surprised me as well. I know I'm obese, but surely others are in a similar position and get processed all the time...? Anyway, the town I have moved to is rather backward, and it sucks, but it is motivation...

I haven't been inputting my food log, but I have stayed at about 1300-1400 calories a day, about 400 over what I did last week. My body must have gotten used to me starving it, because I haven't lost this week, confirming what everyone had told me...that I have to let my body get used to the decrease in calories gradually. I'm listening this time...hopefully I will beginning losing again soon. My exercise has slowed a bit too, but I'm determined to get it back on track this weekend. Hope everyone is having a great Friday!

Oh, dear. I'm so sorry you had such an unpleasant experience with the insurance. But really, I promise you, the weight and the months move faster than you can imagine. Look at how far you've already come. I know for those of us with a lot of weight to lose, it can start to feel like we're never really going to get there. But we are getting there, and as long as you know you're making progress, then everything's going to be fine.

So chin up, little buckaroo!

What's up girls???? Hurray for Saturday! I slept so late and ate so much and it felt wonderful, LOL
I love watching cooking shows and today, this couple on the Food Network were demonstrating how to make "Get Your Man Chicken" :smilielol5: And I made it...it's DELICIOUS, yet...I see no man!
False Advertising I say!!! :toetap05:

In case you're interested in making it, you take some chicken thighs (seasoned) and braise them in a pan with some extra virgin olive oil for 4 mins on each side (this really works, don't move it before 4 mins!)

Then take it out of the pan, sautee some diced onions, mushrooms into the same pan some tomato sauce ...add some parsley and 1/2 cup of white wine...add the chicken back into the pot and leave it for 40 mins...DELICIOUS!!!

:hurray: I found your diary :D

Hi Carrie!! Congratulations on all of your weight loss  You are doing FANTASTIC!

That recipe sounds delicioso! I think I will try it...minus the wine :D
Love your avi by the way ;)

LOL! You are too cute, waiting for your man. :biggrinjester:

That recipe sounds delicious--and healthy, too. I can only watch the food network while I'm eating--otherwise it makes me want to go eat something. :D

Glad you're feeling better now. JW is right about the pounds and time moving faster than you'd think.

Sorry you didn't lose this week, but I still say you should up your calories to 1600-1800. You should easily be able to lose at that level. It might take your metabolism a couple of weeks to adjust from the low-cal eating--so don't be discouraged if that scale doesn't move in the right direction immediately. :)

So I have decided to recommit myself to my journey today. Over the last week, Ive been slyly adding in bad things to my diet and inventing all sorts of reasons to not work out.

So this post is to just remind myself that I have goals and I refuse to let this go again. Because I know what will happen. I'll slowly start eating the fast food again, gain back all the weight I lost and more, then 2 months later I'll decide to try again, and so the cycle continues. Not this time! Off to go...jog or climb a mountain or..something. :gnorsi:

Good for you for getting it back on track. It'd be a shame to go back to your old ways and wreck the progress you've made thus far.

It's easy to add a little extra here and a little extra there and then a little extra on top of THAT and so on.

Hope your jog went well!

Glad to hear you're sticking with this. As I said before--the payoff is well worth the sacrifices. It really isn't that hard once you get into a routine. :)

Aw, thanks to everyone for your encouragement. I think the most difficult part of this is staying motivated. I have great weeks- weeks where everything seems to go my way, and then I do great and lose a lot...then there are weeks like the last two, where it's a struggle. And I guess the trick is to force yourself to do it, even when you feel like you've been run over by a truck. :ack2:

I've also made friends with carbs, there's no need to cut it out and limit myself, just be careful with the calories, I've found. I'm still fighting with the exercise, LOL. I know Kimberly says I'll enjoy it eventually, but that time is certainly not here for me. It still sucks, but I'm doing it! And I'm back to keeping track of my food and exercise here...got sidetracked before:

8am
boiled egg

12pm
large Burger King salad (grilled chicken), 1/2 pack of lite italian dressing

5pm
6 inch Subway- ham, no cheese, no mayo.

8pm (fixing to have)
the other half of my subway, 1 cup watermelon
little piece of dark chocolate

Exercise
40 mins walking

For me, the hardest part about exercising is getting out there--especially with walking. Once I'm out doing it, I am fine. Do you feel that way, too? What about when you're done? Do you feel great, like you did something good, like your body got some good exercise?

For me, vanity is a HUGE motivator. :D Yup, I'll admit that. I wanna be as hot and sexy as possible. :D So, when all else fails, remember that you owe it to the thin hot brunette inside of you who's dying to get out and live life to the fullest. :)

Oh, yeah, and you don't want to end up with high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and many other health problems that are almost inevitable if you don't stay motivated.

:hug2:
