Cardio

Can somebody suggest a suitable alternative to running.

Due to ankle injury I cannot run for a while because of the impact it courses.

Running is the best form of cardio and good for burning fat so I want to either use a bike or the rower to the same effect. Are these good machines to chose?

Also does anyone have any exercises/stretches that I can use to help strengthen my ankle ligaments again?

Thanks
Gavin

Personally I swim to try and save as much life as I can for my knees and ankles.

Personally cycling round my way is akin to taking your life in your hands. Too many oldies on a joyride looking to wipe some young fool out.

But on the otherhand, you are messing up your shoulders more while swimming

I don't know anyone who has screwed themselves swimming, apart from the fools who swim breaststroke head out of water.

On the other hand, I know way to many guys who've been kicked from the forces through ankle/knee problems and shin splints. I'd say its a superior form of cardio to perform if you are trying to rehabilitate a damaged ankle.

Depending on the damage itself, the range of movement required to cycle could just as much exasperate the situation.

If Cryptik gets you worried about your shoulders, just bring a float along ;)

I hate knowing how hard I'm working my knees and ankles while running, but can't justify doing any other form of cardio. I guess the way I see it is, if my knees are gonna be bad at some point, there's nothing to really do, I might as well use them while I'm young and healthy and they feel powerful...

Maybe I should change things up, but the bike, the elyptical, and swimming, just aren't as intense for me...
