Cardio at home

Hi,

Im just looking for some cardio exercises that i can do from home. I have 2 small children the youngest 4 mths. I wont be able to get to a gym until feb next year when i return to work. I do weights, occasionally yoga, pilates and fitness dvd's like taebo etc.. when i can. I don't have any equipment like a treadmill or bike etc.. I am unable to go outside with the baby for runs its too hot and humid for her, i tried it for a few weeks then gave up have to wait for the dry season.

If any one could make some suggestions i would be grateful.

Thanks

Hey

Well i started skipping, can pick up a rope for bout 8 bucks from target, the reason i started this was because my mum recommended it, cause thats what she used to get rid of her weight after having my sister and I

I also recently won an exercise bike of ebay for only 30 bucks, its a cheap one but i work up a sweat on it.

Yeah jump rope is great! You can also box. You can usually get a used heavy bag that doesnt cost too much or you can put some old carpet around a tree, or something, tape it up and spare with that. You could also do a bodyweight circuit. Pick 4 or 5 exercises and do maybe 15 reps for each one back to back then rest at the end of each circuit. ie you could do 15 pushups followed by situps without rest followed by jumping jacks, followed by bodyweight squats, followed by mountain climbers then rest 30 to 60 sec. and do it all over again maybe 6 times. You can also usually find a cheap pair of adjustible dumbbells at a used sporting goods store. This would give you even more options. I would also look for ideas on youtube.com. A lot of times fighters have routines that do not require much equipment. They tend to do a lot of bodyweight exercises so you could look into that type of thing too.

I think you were given a great idea w/ jumping rope at home, you also might want to invest in some really inexpensive stretch bands. I use those, too. I'm not an expert here, but I've discovered that moving from one exercise to another (w/ weights) the quickest I can w/no break in between can make a big difference for me. I end up sweating a bunch when I do that. I try to do my actual exercise very slow & controlled, however.

I have major balance problmes so am unable to run or even walk that fast so use a stationary bike that someone was throwing away because it is noisy. (So what? I just turn up the TV or music) I also swim whenever I can get a ride to the pool, usually twice a week.

Good luck on keep on keeping on!

Hi,
Thanks for the idea's. I've been using the skipping rope and sort of put it together with jumping jacks, step up's, cross country skiier movement, mountain climber movement. My husband also did up a weights circuit for me which seems to be working for the moment. Cardio is my main problem, it's too hot to take the baby out for a walk at the moment as it is too humid or there are storms which is not safe to be out in. Before the baby i used to be able to run 6km a day and wont be able to do half of that until i return to work at the end of jan. I've got Taebo cardio dvd's but not sure how good they are for my cardio.
Cheers
