Cannon's Journal

Did you say you were in the market for a job? Our school district is hiring...
just sayin...
You can find us with a google search for unalaska city school district.

June is coming, but if I don't fine a job our school year ends June 17th and I'll have to be back June 24th to get the room ready for the July 1st start of next year blech. Alaska--I'd love to visit, but it'd be hard to get up for work in February. That nasty computer thing is still there :(

My computer is still infected, but references to this thing are popping up all over the web so I expect a fix will be found soon. My weight is to the ounce what it was 2 weeks ago, but I'm also on nice roll now and this week it really felt so much more like a lifestyle than a diet. I've been at this since March and while I wish I was down 167 pounds, I'll gladly take where I'm at.

you're better off today than you were a year ago - so that's the plus side :)

have a great weekend

if your computer is that infected - just format the hard drive and move on... it's easier than trying to get rid of the crap that's got a hold of it

My wife, who is a 3rd grade public school teacher, is going absolutely bonkers now, too. She was at school doing report cards until 7pm last night, and in April the "Every Child Left Behind" testing starts. I see why so many teachers struggle with their weight. Lots of stress, hard to eat snacks during the day, horrible food in the cafeterias, etc. It takes a lot of determination, but you have what it takes!

Doesn't it feel good to have this start to feel like a lifestyle change? Congratulations on holding steady for two weeks!! You were see-sawing for a while there!!! Way to go Cannon!!! You can only move forward now!!

Im sorry abt your comp and the infection it has - that really sucks - I hope you get it all sorted out soon - especially before you stresses you out even more - hee hee hee...hang in there :):):)

It is annoying, but there are 2 reasons I haven't reformated. First, now that I know what its doing its more an annoyance than a serious threat. Its just frequently disconnecting me. Its not attacking my system further. Secondly, I was one of the lucky first wave of people to get hit with this thing. As it spreads, somebody will come up with a good and quick way to get rid of it. I can be patient.

Cannon, your school goes all year? That's insane! Why not let kids be kids while they're young? We get 40 min. lunch breaks, no matter what time of year it is, then we're off from the end of June until the beginning of September.

I hope you have a good week. :)

Year Round School isn't actually anymore time in school. Basically what it does is in an attempt to avoid building more schools in poor neighborhoods, they put the students on one of four tracks. At any time 1/4 of the students are off. The result is parents have one kid in school and a different kid off on every single day of the year. It means that instead of being off for summer some students will be off September, January, and May. This is just what a country with a huge childhood obesity problem needs. Instead of giving the kids summers off when there are camps, sports and organized activities we'll give them February off when they can watch MTV and play video games without a parent to interrupt them.

Things are kind of rough here. I just got the let's be friends talk from a girl that I had been seeing sporadicly since November. It wasn't something I ever thought could last because she was a bit young and immature for me, but somehow it still depressed me. I haven't had a lot of romantic experience in my life--weight has been a big contributor to that. Being overweight and shy is a bad combo so I haven't built up a lot of scar tissue for this kind of thing. What's weird is this was a girl that I intended to marry or thought I had any kind of long term future with, but I'm still down about it.

Sorry to hear about your gf, Cannon. That's always tough to take, no matter what the reasons.

As parents, we couldn't stand year-round schedules. It was practically impossible to find babysitters, and if you both work, that creates havoc. As the husband of a public school teacher, though, I wish my wife worked in a district with these, so we could take a vacation in Sept. once in a while.

I'm sorry about your relationship not heading where you wanted it to. I'm sure there is someone out there for you. Try to keep your focus on getting healthy if you can. You've made progress with your weight loss, and as you keep going other things will fall in place.

Awe, I know how you feel about the girl situation Cannon. I'll tell you what someone inevitably tells me everytime I'm in a rough spot relationship wise..."there are plety of fish in the sea." Now, I know you don't have a preference for fish ladies, but apparently there are gobs of people out there that do since its old hand advice. SO, start liking fish.

As for the year round school thing. I believe the school board here looked at that possibility a few years ago, but local parents were outraged at the idea since this is a working peoples community, if you are old enough to have a job you have at least one to do. Having kids on and off again all year is a pain in the ass, especially for those who plan recreation for the young community on school breaks, they would basically have to increase their budgets by 75% to accomidate kids vacationing 12 months a year instead of three. talk about a programming nightmare. And a child care nightmare. We already have a horrible child care provider deficit in our city. Some people literally cannot go to work for lack of reliable child care. I know, my monday sitter is a nightmare.

Now that I've rambled on...

Congratulations

Wow things are happenning fast and furious here. The parents here are outraged at the year round school thing too, but its an urban district so the mayor could care less. I found out from our principal today that the principal at a neighboring school wants to talk to me tomorrow. I also found out the our new principal isn't going to want to fill the spot that I wanted to fill--drama teacher. I'm going in every direction at once, but there is one thing saving me. When I was getting my hair cut this afternoon, this man of 20 walked in and as I was leaving he said, "Do you remember me coach?". I didn't have my glasses and apologized. He said, "I'm Tim L." I couldn't believe it. I had coached this kid when he was 5 and for many years until he was 12. He gave me a firm handshake and thanked me for all I had done. I wasn't much older than 20 myself when I had coached him for the first time. I was very proud of being a favorite part of his childhood. Whether you call it karma or God or whatever, I think something knew that I needed that today.
