Cannon's Journal

I couldn't make myself get up early today to walk :(. So I'm killing time til 9:30. Then I'm driving up to a walking path and I'll walk for an hour, on the way I pass the gas station on the way back I'll pass the CVS. I should be back at lunch time so I can hit the subway for a not too horrible for me lunch. Even when I was really in the walking zone last summer I took the weekends off. I hope I can really make this a habbit for me.

Cannon, I used to have lots and lots of days where I really had to drag myself to the gym. In fact for the first 3 months, I dragged myself there EVERY day. But it slowly grew on me, and now I actually look forward to it. I know the same thing will happen to you with your walking program.

Have a great weekend!

Cannon,
Walking is a great habit to make - and you're doing it - one day at a time.

And meet Mal at Lincoln park to walk - it's nice having the commitment of meeting a friend to hold us accountable!

Yes finding a walkin buddy is nice plus - walkin is good in general...I always forget how much I miss it in between the crappy weather...

Thanks Mal, I may definitely take you up on it sometime. We're on opposite sides of the city so it'll take a special effort.

I walked for a half hour this morning with some uphill in there. Its kind of a nice place, though its kind of dead just now waiting for Spring to bring everything to life. It was good for me :)

An update on those science fair kids--the local Fox and NBC afilliates filmed the citywide science fair and both of course immediately focused on those special ed kids. Their school was so excited.

walking

Its awesome when you're walking, especially if you're enjoying the music you're listening to, if you do that, when you can just spend time in that place walking and it becomes pleasurable. I try to meditate on that feeling before I go out the door. I know its out there, I just have to take the steps to get there. Get out the door, put in some time, get warmed up.

Lately I've been really enjoying the local rock station. It reminds me of working in my sister's greenhouse which is really cool, and we listen to rock 101 in there all the time. You get in to a frame of mind where you could spend hours doing what you're doing and the work becomes pleasure. Well on my walk/jog yesterday I listened to Led Zepplin 3 and Pink Floyd Meddle (which by the way is great rain music) and I totally got in to that space. I was so glad to be out there shuffling along, there was nothing I'd rather be doing.

Getting started is often the hardest part, but the pride and sense of accomplishment is there waiting for you every day. Its proof that happiness comes from doing things, not acquiring things.

I'm sure if you look back you'll see that you ARE committed, that you HAVE been active.

Have you had your walk today?

Take care.

Yes I had my walk at 9:00. I was proud because when I missed the early morning walk I usually would just say "Oh well I'll do it tomorrow"

I so wish I had the opportunity to go walking.

Up and out the door with my kids at 7:20... To school (I teach)...cant very well go for a walk on my break and return to class all sweaty and with no AC...

leave school 4:30... pick up whatever I need (if I have time) and then to get the kids. They are small - taking them for a walk is useless - we'd dilly dally all the way...

Then they are in bed by 8. I need a treadmill but dont have the space or money for one.

*sigh*

Sorry dear - rambling... Its a habit of mine.

Anyway - just wanted to commend you on the weight loss so far -- and tell you that I think the walking is awesome!

(And no one will make you go for a pedicure! :p)

Hey Justme, its good to have another teacher here. Not having kids to get ready I like to walk at 6:00 when the streets are nice and quiet.

I would so love to be able to get up and go for a morning walk like that!

*sigh*

They are 3 and 8 -- how long until they can be left alone? LMAO

I confess to having a rough Saturday in terms of food. I think I'll be paying for it awhile this week, but I am really working on making walking a habit. I was going to blow it off today and somehow at 6:45 I was heading out the door. I felt so good I came inside and sprinted for a minute on the treadmill. I figure by best estimated I burnt 432 calories. I'm not seeing the results on the scale yet and that's because I'm slacking a bit on the diet. I hope that this week I can put diet and exercise together and really make some progress.
