Cannon's Journal

I've actually been pretty successful dining out so far and making good choices. I've been ordering lighter food and when I made a mistake (Like Bennigans) didn't eat the whole thing. My problem has been social outings which I have no intention of giving up, but I have to exercise more self-control at. What I'm most proud of is that I haven't cheated or overindulged while alone. I've had the opportunities and I haven't done something like ordering a pizza or getting a Big Mac. I made a new playlist for my Ipod with a lot of Great Big Sea, Runrig, and some other Celtic rock bands and I'm going to get back into the walking swing in the mornings before school.

Good Morning!!!! Good For you. I'm glad your making healthier choices. keep it up. Have a Great day. and drink that WATER!!!!!!!:D

how do you avoid temptations at restaurants Cannon?
I always feel very flustered cause I think that if I order the lighter choices I'm not gonna get my money's worth and still feel hungry at the end. Then I always end up OVER ordering. gah. I wish I could pick better choices like you do. :(

Food is so intertwined with social activity. I've often thought we need to get back to those activities where social interaction involved doing something useful with no food in sight. Like quilting circles!!!! Although, that's not very manly for you guys, huh?

Keep your spirits up Cannon!!!!

Don't be discouraged, you're doing an awesome job! Having willpower and the ability to make good choices at restaurants is half the battle! You'll definitely conquer the social settings, I just know it!

Way to go!!

You should be VERY proud! This is not an easy behavior/habit to change! Congratulations!! Keep up the great work!! ;)

DM thanks for popping by :)

I made a long post yesterday about restaurant behavior that addressed both C and Scarlett, but I can't find it. What I use at restaurants is the fact food is so intertwined with social activity. If you are there with friends and you are having fun, you'll remember the conversation and the good times more than what you ate and if its a good restaurant it'll still be a treat.

My friend Darrell and I meat up at Bennigans a lot. My traditional meal was the chicken fingers with a loaded baked potato and a dinner roll with butter plus an appetizer. I had just as good a time when I switched to the Tukey O'Toole and avoiding the other stuff. I don't think the social calories really do most of us in. It is the calories we eat when we're board or can make healthier choices that hurt more than having a piece of grandma's birthday cake.

I think you're absolutely right Cannon, when I'm bored I crave things I KNOW I shouldn't eat. Thanks for your insight, I remember reading that response but I don't remember who's diary it was in either. But I do appreciate you sharing those thoughts with us.

Have a great Tuesday! :)

Hey Cannon,

I get the whole social calories, but on the other hand its also a good excuse for slacking off (at least for me). But the fight continues, and like you said in my diary, it really helps looking back on what used to be ones intake... Then you see your progress:)
Well, have a nice day!

I admire you for making healthier choices when dining out. I'm working on that. I know my self control is in here somewhere, just need to find it. haha Thanks for stopping by my diary. Have a great day!

Thanks for posting that Cannon - Whenever I'm eating out, socializing, I'm going to make a point to remember that it's the conversation and friends that make the experience enjoyable, not the food. In the past I've always put too much emphasis on the enjoyment of the food. It's time to put things back in balance.

OK I was up at 6:10 just so I could walk this morning. I got up to walk yesterday, but then backed out when I knew the IPOD had to be recharged, but out I went with Runrig, Great Big Sea, and my favorite Irish and Scotish bands playing. Today I know I'll eat 1 doughnut at school, but I hope we have a chance to eat something healthier. We'll be at meetings all day and sometimes they don't let us order lunch. I've had a great 3 days, but I am so much more in tune with my body--I can literally feel the effects of stress, but forewarned is forearmed. A few things I intend to do:

1. Get up and walk before school as much as possible
2. Get 7 hours sleep every night
3. Keep taking my multi-vitamins
4. I won't be discouraged if something at school makes me slip up, but I will try and plan ahead to avoid temptations.

It's funny, my two best teachers at school are both losng weight too. One is a very athletic girl who has gained a bit of a beer belly. She's dropped 11 pounds over summer. My other friend Sue lost 37 pounds by having a baby. The doctor's were worried cause she kept losing weight but that was cause she threw up everything she ate and the baby is very healthy and adorable. I'm hoping we'll all keep each other on the straight and narrow.

It's always great to have someone physically in it with you. I have a coworker that I exercise with and we watch each others food and encourage one another. It really helps. So I'm REALLY glad to hear that you have that support system at work, it makes a big difference.

Have a great day! :)

Got up early and had another good walk. I feel a lot rested when the alarm goes off and 6 and I've been sleeping since 11 instead of 1. It will be hard to keep this up, but I know it is worth it. I had a fairly poor food day yesterday, but I think the combo of sleep and the walk helped give me a decent scale reading this morning.

WOW! Yu should be so proud!!!

Way to go Cannon - you are doing a terrific job! You've got a walking streak going! Keep it up! And I love your resiliency when you have a bad day! Keep up that SPECTACULAR, inspiring, positive attitude! We are all so proud of you - but more importantly - you should be so proud of yourself!! :D
