Cannon's Journal

Mrs Bear - They don't give us our full salary for ten months and then spread it into equal payments every two week. They started doing that about 20 years ago. I think it's a good idea except it gets people saying--you only work for part of the year and get paid all year.
They shouldn't say that. I get 5 and a bit weeks paid holiday a year (You build up to 6 weeks as you spend longer with Royal Mail), so it could be argued that I get paid all year, but don't work all year. You just get all your paid holiday at the same time ;)

Ah now there is a great way of looking at it Mrs B!

Besides, 12 months with 7th graders?
That deserves a holiday!

;)

GBS is Great Big Sea--They're a Celtic rock group from New Foundland. Aw, I love the way Mrs. Bear and M2M talk about my profession :)

Hey Cannon,

Thanks for stopping by my diary:) And thank you for the motivation for keeping it up.
Just remember there is a lot of fruit and veggies, and an apple isn't just an apple. I am "damaged" from being a farmers daugther, so I think eating fruit and veggies comes easy for me. But keep it up, you will get use to eating it too, and propably love it too:)

hehehe I think I need to give that album a dustind down, I remember they'd just brought it out when they supported Runrig in 2001 so they were doing all the songs from it. I remember some of their patter being the same for each show and Bruce Guthro said something along the lines of "...right Falkirk the party capital of Scotland..." everyone who wasn't from Falkirk cheered as they knew it was the sing along coming up but everyone from Falkirk just sort of looked at each other with their eyebrows raised thinking "Party captial? Has he ever been here before?":D

ah... no wonder u're travelling so much. well, enjoy your holidays... cause *BUM BUM BUM* Summer holidays are gonna end soon. ;) Then back to school you'll go! hehehe. ;) (heh. September is always a dread... Not just for the kids but teachers too. hehehe.)

Wotcha Cannon! Just been catching up with the holiday and such. You said that you made "bad choices" but sometimes in an area, you can only make as good a choice as there is available. And like you said, it wasn't a full on binge day-in-day-out, it was more controlled. If you think back to how you would have coped with the day even just a few weeks back, you'll see how much progress you'll have made with it. Even though there's been some gain (though by the sound of it, a lot of it being water weight) I think you've done well. And as has been mentioned, to get the remaining pounds off won't be too hard.

Both my parents were teachers, Dad still is. They used to work at the same school; a school for children with additional needs. Any teaching job is hard work, so paid holiday is deserved. At the moment, my CV's leaning towards teaching (Brownies, mentoring, past experience with maths mentoring, Anti Bullying Campaign leadering, etc.) and although I'd love to teach - it looks like one of the most rewarding jobs in the world - I already have a art career planned ;) Good for you for teaching! You sound like you'd make a fantastic one. Wish I was in your class :D

Crunchie, Cannon - I'm in shock!! I'm from the Maritimes in Canada and Emmcookie and I can't believe that you people have even heard of Great Big Sea and Bruce Guthro. For me personally, they drive me nuts because everything here is so touristy and cutesy-pie Celtic. I worked on the waterfront for years and when I was done I swore I never wanted to hear another fiddle! :) :) :)

Who knows, maybe you'll see me playing the bagpipes someday. :) Things change.

That I would love to see, Sillygirl. I'll check that GBS out...now that I know it is not a tracking system. I like a lot of Celtic Music. The Chieftans, of course and I love the Young Dubliners. I like a lot of the Celtcore bands as well. I hope you are having a great day.

Hey everybody!! Thanks for posting in my diary. I'm sorry I haven't gotten to anybody else's today or yesterday. The reason is the heat wave. I have one room with AC and the computer isn't in it. Not only that, but it's a real crummy AC. Its supposed to be over tomorrow night so when I can get in here and it's not 90 I'll spend a lot of time catching up.

Mahatt--I'm going to force myself to eat some of the delicious cherries I bought last week in 5 minutes. I must eat more fruit

Crunchie--Where is Falkirk. I spent a week in Scotland, but mostly Edinburough and Glasgow.

Initial C -- September dread for students is nothing compared to what it is for teachers. For teachers I think it lasts from August til October. I miss the long breaks we used to get when I was a kid in the 70s.

Bronsk -- I wish you were in my class to. I'm a sucker for the creative ones. I always try and find them programs or outlets to develop those abilities.

Sillygirl -- I never have been a fan of touristy Irish (except to laugh) or the new age Celtic type thing, but I grew up with the music and all it took was Van Morrison to release a CD with the Chieftans in the mid-80s and I started digging out my parent's old Clancy Brothers and getting into the new stuff. I never would have thought of Nova Scotia as touristy.

Piney--I'm a big Chieftans fan too!

I don't like the hot weather, Cannon, but we've been lucky in the UK and it has cooled down somewhat. Keep up the good work ;)

Van Morrison to release a CD with the Chieftans

I have a Chieftans CD where they collaborated with many artists and Van did Have I Told You Lately with them...brilliant!!!

How's the heat situation this afternoon? Any better? Hope you are doing well, my friend. What day do you leave for your next excursion?

Oh Cannon,
I can relate to the heat zapping our energy. If I didn't get out of the house by 6:00 am to walk - I know I wouldn't do it. Fortunately, our weather has cooled off quite a bit! It was ugly a few weeks ago

And the cherries! You have to force yourself to eat them? Oh, they are so yummy! I actually had a binge on them a couple of weeks back and switched to snacking on grape size tomatoes - but they were soooo good!

Canon Falkirk is smack bang between Glasgow & Edinburgh. The biggest city near us is Stirling but Falkirk is a nice town itself.:)

mmmm cherries... though i'm finding cantaloupe and honeydew to be ultra cooling in this weather... I love cherries, but the prices of them this summer have been outrageous...

Hope it cools soon

Cherries:)

Hey Cannon,

Hope you enjoyed the cherries, sounds like they ended up being the talk of the town. (or envy)
I hope the weather is getting better on your parts, here its raining half a day, then it the sun boils you the rest.... Guess thats the result of having a heatwawe for a couple of weeks...
Well reading your tread made my inner jukebox go crazy with my celtic pick-me-upper, so now I am in a very good mood... Nifty little tune:) But I guess I better turn in now, its been a long day... Hope you are surviving the heat!

Mal, do you have Trader Joe's there?
I've been getting them for 2.99 lb

Nope none in the area... i think the last time i got them they were 4.99 a pound... but i'm betting thehigh cost of fuel had a lot to do with that - cherries arent grown on the east coast :(
(we get blueberries... and corn... )

You guys are makin' me crave some more berries over here *drool* I have no idea what the cost is since I don't do the grocery shopping around here, but I do know that whenever my mom brings them home, they never last more than a couple of days! If I didn't already have my calories planned today I'd go get a berry smoothie :)
