Cannon's Journal

while i wouldn't give up music for anything- there are also a ton of podcasts available that are great for when you are out walking.... ITunes has a walking one that's kinda fun... and there are just tons of others on practically any subject (but you probably knew that :)

I was thinking of buying an MP3 player but I don't know anything about them. Are they sort of like IPods? I have a great album I love to walk to called "The Stamping Ground" by Runrig (Scottish band I like) the album even has a song called "Summer Walkers" on it!:D

Hope you have a great weekend cannon, it's nearly here (oh how I love saying that).

Oh wow! Another Runrig fan. Very cool. I'm of Irish ancestry and have always liked Irish music which eventually got me into bands like Runrig and Great Big Sea--good walking music. Breaking the Chains is another good walking song. Val, I'm so glad you didn't have to kick my butt too ;)

OMG, I visit you one day later and your ticker has moved even further!!!! That's great news....now you've lost 22% of your summer goal. Yippppeee!!!

Hi Cannon,
This is my first time checking in since you got back from vacation - Congrats on the weight loss!! You did a great job picking healthier choices! I have never gone away and come back with a loss!!

Very Cool!

As for walking, I've been walking in the mornings, and this is the first time in my life I LOVE it! It's cool out, not hot yet, I meet a friend half way, we chat a bit and turn and go home. I never really thought I'd like walking ;)

Keep up the good work!

Cannon, well done on the weight drop! Aren't friday weigh-ins fun :D

As for walking songs, you just can't beat 'em! I have a mix of fast ones, but then some tamer ones for cool off periods for when I'm on the stridder.

Rurig, eh? May have to *coughcoughdownloadcough* some of the bands/songs you and Crunchie mentioned.

Keep it up dude, stay cool!

Well, I ate wrong today. I'm not eating too many calories, but I'm not eating enough food. I need to hit the store tomorrow and buy some nice fresh produce.

Lunch
Panera Sourdough Baquet
Caesar's Salad

Dinner
2 Popeyes Chicken Mild Thighs
1 biscuit
1 small Cajun rice

Snack
15 Ritz Bits S'mores

I'm not worried about the calories. That's about 2050. I should lose a pound today on those calories. What worries me is what is missing--fruits and veggies. I am going to do better starting with shopping tomorrow. My habbits aren't going to go 180 degrees and even small change takes time, but the way I ate today isn't really sustainable nor is it healthy long term and I really haven't done much better the last 3 days. I'm not down, but I'm definitely determined to change things and get back to eating the right way.

I wouldn't say that that was eating wrong. Like you said, you're still OK for calories. As for not having fruit or veg, you're planning on changing that, which is the positive thing. We all learn from our "mistakes" (I use that term loosely) and you're learning by making a point of buying some fresh produce. I say go you!

You might want to watch the Popeyes chicken. It's known to have high levels of arsenic in. I'm sure some not too often won't kill anyone, but just as a point.

Have a great day!

Oh my God oh my God oh my God Great Big Sea are fabulous! I saw them in 2001 when they supported Runrig on their tour. Hardly any of the Runrig fans had heard of them before so we were all feverishly downloading tracks but whoa we got a huge surprise when they came on and had us all jumping around.:D I'm a huge fan of U2 as well!

Have you heard any of Bruce Guthros solo stuff? it's very nice!

Great Big Sea recorded one CD I didn't like when they got poppy, but their last one was an improvement though my favorite song wasn't on the CD. I haven't heard any Bruce Guthros solo stuff though I'd like to. I like some of the hard driving half rock/half folk groups and they make good work out music too. Connemara Stone Company is another one I like. I had no idea GBS supported Runrig on a tour in 2001--Man I would have loved to have seen that. I like U2 as well and have seen them live 6 or 7 times.

Bronski--I didn't know about the arsenic. Then again, maybe I'm building up an immunity like villians used to do in old mystery novels. I don't really eat too much of it at least. Now, I'm off to shop.

arsenic in food. hmmmmm dont know about all of that. I know alot of foods have trace elements maybe that one was one of those. kinda like the odd things we find in dish. ahhh well anyhow have fun shopping.....

If you're into folk/rock stuff, do you like The Levellers, Cannon? They did "What a beautiful daaaaa-aaaaaaaaaay-aaaaaaaaay, what a beautiful day" and Hope Street. Recommend them for *coughcoughdownloadcough* if you haven't heard them.

There's a thread about it in the Nutrition section if you're interested about the arsenic in chicken. The arsenic comes mainly from the feed the chickens are fed, but arsenic is also found naturally in soil. Church's and Popeyes are the worst for it, whereas KFC isn't too bad, mainly because there's more fat and not a great deal of actually meat...

How did the shopping go, anyway? Get any good stuff in? I love food shopping, it's always so exciting, especially when you get something you haven't tried before in. Hope you enjoyed it, anyway.

Congrats on your weight loss and walking! I think I need to finally get an ipod.

Drink your water and get your protein! Good luck and good job!!!

I'm familiar with the Levellers, but not Hope Street. As for the shopping I finally did it and now I find myself with a whole lot more choice. It should cut down on me having to order something or get fast food. I did well at Wendy's today for lunch though--a grilled chicken sandwich and a side caesar isn't too bad. There's a possibility in Spring time I'll need to look for another job. I think if I go into a school at 320-350 or so pounds I'll do much better than if I went in at 465. I have another trip coming up in a bit over a week and I will be forced to make some bad choices. I'm formulating a strategy in my mind now and will explain more later.

Just wanted to stop in to see how you are doing. Congratulations on losing 14 pounds! That is great! I'm so glad you decided to do the challenge too! :D
