Cannon's Journal

whole wheat

Great for you, trying new things. I am doing a bit of that myself. I think it is important to try new foods if we are going to make lifestyle changes. Who knows what good stuff we might find! :)

So far today

Dannon Fruit on the Bottom Yogurt - 140
Turkey Sandwich - 410
Orange - 60
Caesar's Salad - 255

That puts me at 865 heading into Bennigans. I haven't found a lot of nutritional info on Bennigans, but I think I'll get a Turkey O'Toole and a light beer. I just need to find a side that won't kill me. Assuming I get out of there at under 800 calories I'm looking at about 1650 calories and 250 burned walking. Now looking at what I did last year (On an especially bad day) -

2 Hot Dogs - 540
2 Chicken Sand w/ provolone - 817 Calories
6 potato chips – 50 Calories

The calories are up, but Geez, the quality of food is getting a lot better.

hey thats great. Dont worry about the beer sometimes we need things to remind us we are still alive. Just remember If you dont get your calories real low you can still lose weight because you were taking in alot more to start with. If you start feeling starved just up them a little. Just up them on good things.......

I got in the habbit of drinking light beer a few years back. I'm not a big fan of American beer in general. I did stop at only one. I had a Turkey O'Toole and I only ate half my fries. I threw my napkin over them because I caught myself nibbling on them even though I didn't particularly like them and wasn't especially hungry. I also got a big water. For the day I was probably between 1650 and 1800 calories as near as I can figure. I went to the Osco and along with lightbulbs, razor blades, and lightbulbs I got more water because I didn't alot enough until the Ice Mountain guy gets here on Thursday. I also picked up some macaroni--I found a decent low cal mac and cheese recipe I want to do. I couldn't get ice, but will get some at the liquor store behind me tomorrow.

Support from an Unexpected Source
I'm in grad school now and with student loans going up July 1st, I've been hounded by fly by night institutions to refinance. I actually took care of that already. Anyway, I got a call at 5:11 tonight from one of these telemarketers and I was greatly annoyed. He mistakenly asked me how I was doing and I told him about my diet, my exercise, what I've been eating and previous successful and unsuccessful diets. I talked for between 5 and 10 minutes without taking a breath and then I told him, "Thanks for calling. It was good to get that off my chest". He said, "Hey good luck man". I thanked him and then I hung up. I bet he's got a story to tell his coworkers now. I can be such a jerk sometimes.

I love that approach with telemarketers.. gotta wonder what's worse - the hang ups - or the person who actually answers the "how are you" question honestly... :) good times...

OooH chef Cannon - do share the recipe with us :)

congrats on your great day...

Wow, your doing great on the caloric intake. I like to ask telemarketers if I can have their home phone so I can call them at their house...which I know is mean, they are just trying to make a living. I also like to tell people they have the wrong number when they ask me if they can speak to the "man or lady of the house"--what the heck does that mean anyway? The "man or lady of the house"--what century are we in?

I tell them in a fearful voice, "My wife won't let me talk to strangers. Please don't call back, I'm begging you"

I really had to kick my butt today. I woke up at 6:30 and had no desire to go walking. I didn't get out the door until 7:00. I did get my walk in, but I really was surprised at my own resistance to doing it. Its not painful--I listen to music and I know I start the day off right. I do have a lot to do today. At 9:30 I'm off to return videos, get a passport, and then its off to the chiropractor. I have a lot to talk with him about. Breakfast is going to be crackling oat bran and milk. Lunch will probably be a turkey sandwich and grapes since its pretty quick.

Oh this is sad when you're the last 3 postings in your own diary. Anyway, I went to the chiropractor today and the good news was he was very happy with the diet situation. He had me reschedule for Friday as well so that he could work with me further on that. Today, however he mostly dealt with another issue I'm having which is going to make the diet tougher. I have an open ileocecal valve which is going to require me to lay off roughage and caffeine for 2 weeks. Fruits and veggies are OK as long as they're cooked.

No caffeine? Oh god i would have to kill myself.. .:( I'm so sorry...

So sounds like you are going to turn into PROTEIN MAN for the next two weeks -able to leap tall buildings in a single bound and all that -- defender of the innocent and such... being a superhero is tough work - hope you're up for the challenge :)

Seriously, hope your condition clears up quickly...

Its a real minor condition whose main result is a sinus cold and occassional tummy troubles. I can still eat veggies if they're cooked, but I'm afraid my fresh produce will be less than fresh when I can eat that stuff again.

a lot of fruits you can freeze - grapes can go right in the freezer and make for a tasty treat to cool off with on a hot day.. other fruits as well freeze with no problem...

Hey- just read through your diary and it sounds like you are off to a good start! Good job so far- I'll be sure check up on you regularly!

I am so produd of myself. Now, I know I can't have lettuce so I have a half caesar's salad sitting in the fridge and I haven't had many veggies today and can't really do much with fruit for two weeks so what did I do? I actually made broccoli. Granted it was frozen with a low fat cheese sauce, but I ate all 3 servings for 135 calories and some decent nutritional benefits. Man, that was a major change. To be honest it was pretty good. For the main entree I made sword fish steak with a honey mustard sauce. The steaks were only 450 calories for 3 servings and pretty lean.

So far today--
Crackling Oat Bran with skim milk (Dumped the leftover milk so just a drizzle)
2 Quesadillas (Skinless chicken breast, salsa, 2 tortillas, TBSP Low Fat Sour Cream, 2 Ounces of full Calorie Cheddar Cheese)
2 Swordfish Steaks
1 TBSP Honey Mustard Sauce
Package of frozen Broccoli with low-cal cheese sauce

I estimate myself at about 1700-1800 calories right now, I will eat a yogurt later if I'm hungry.
