Cannon's Journal

I got my walk in this morning so I'm good to go. Its nice and cool today with some sunshine. A great day for walking. I am going to look at patio furniture with my mom today. Remember patio furniture was her mother's day gift and I need to rent a truck to bring it to her. When I do that I'm going to use that same trunk to haul my treadmill to my sister's place. I just don't like doing the treadmill. I'm selling it to her for $300 + the cost of the truck. I'm then taking the $300 and I'm going to pay for my gym membership. Boy that's complicated.

Not complicated - it is great !!! Sounds lik a perfect solution for everyone :):):)

Well I figure that I don't really use the treadmill so losing it won't hurt my workout. However, joining a gym should certainly help it. I didn't get a walk in today. With the sudden cold weather I just couldn't force myself out of bed--it was wonderful. I will get the walk in this afternoon.

I have a treadmill I just need to make myself start using it - I have an easy day today Im gonna go to Curves between places and then maybe before I get Taneesha I can go for a jog on the tredmill - I dont liek it for walking - I want to use it for jogging and to work myself up to running :):):)

I have my days when I cant make myself drag my ass outta bed - heh heh heh...

Cannon, I started out walking outside, just like you. Eventually, though, I found the weather just made too many excuses for me, so I joined a gym. I don't know if that's the right solution for you, but it certainly worked for me.

Hi Cannon!! What gym are you thinking of joining? I miss the gym, the equipment was the best for weight lifting. I'm a mess at free weights, but have had training, so I have no excuse.

Have a great day!!

Hey, I got the walk in this afternoon and I got the extra sleep. I thought it was win/win. The food could have been a bit better today, but it wasn't horrible. I had a lot of calories for lunch so I had a small dinner. I got a lot done at work today and shocked my principal when I went into the office and went off on one of the other teachers. In my entire professional career I've never ever complained to a boss about a fellow employee, but she was trying to move into my room over me. She was going to send kids up to dump my kids' stuff from their locker and move her stuff in. I had enough and I went downstairs and I complained. To say my principal was shocked is an understatement.

Steve: Thanks for stopping by. Your advice and info has been really helpful.

MJB: I'm overdue to visit your diary. I think it'll be the one I visit tonight. This is the gym I'm thinking of. The price and the hospital aspect should be perfect for me -

Mal, Pinky, & Cerella: I didn't get to check my diary, but I wish I had. You're very good motivators.

Tom: See above. I think the gym will help with the rough Chicago weather. I know now that I can't make myself use the treadmill so I'm going to do the next best thing and turn it into a gym membership.

I need summer vacation more than fish need water right now. Each day takes a week and the adults are far more annoying than the kids. Oh well, back into the breach.

Good morning Cannon! I'm so glad that you're feeling like walking again...I swear, our mental attitude is so important....I just don't feel like I get as good of a workout when my heart is not into it....and when I am feeling good, I really seem to push myself much farther and feel better afterwards too.

Great that you are getting a gym membership...if the t'mill wasn't working for you, you are smart to get rid of it for something that will! :) Your gym membership will offer you a lot more alternatives for a workout and more support too! :)

Have a good day! Enjoy your walk!

I got my walk in this evening. Its so much easier to walk in the morning, but I am so proud of myself that unlike in the past when I miss my morning walk I get it in later in the day anyway.

Today at work was funny. We had a meeting for the entire faculty in the library and the Principal had me stand up. Then she told the one teacher I complained about yesterday, "Mrs. ---- stop picking on my boy." That teacher than started stammering out some excuse in front of the rest of the staff. It was pretty funny. Then the principal explained I was leaving and how much they would miss me and what I had brought to the school. She said next week would be kind of busy so they would have coffee and doughnuts tomorrow morning and have kind of a good bye reception for me. It was a nice touch. I know I complain about my school a lot. Part of the reason is because of the nature of urban education especially when dealing with adolescents. The other reason is that the new principal coming in who is running things as the assistant this year is a major idiot. However, I hope my next principal is half as good a boss as my old principal. She called my friend Mac in to her office yesterday after I complained about that other teacher and said, "Joe was in here going off on Mrs ----. I couldn't believe it. He's the calm one who always keeps you guys from doing stuff like that." Mac said, "I think that's the only person in the building who could make Joe do that". I was too high on food this week, but I did a good job getting my walks in. We'll see how the weigh in goes tomorrow.

Cannon, way to go on standing up for yourself. When I was overeating, I often literally was stuffing my feelings, including feelings of anger. Looks like you made nasty teacher wear it instead and that's as it should be.
Can't wait to see your progress at the gym. It will be a much needed stress reliever...believe it! Sometimes I go to the gym and even if the sky is falling at work, I feel mentally stronger. Schools out for summer ... soon!!!

Hey Mr Nice Guy....
wow that was some drama in sch. At least u got the principal on your side. Hope u have fun in your new place soon! :)

Thanks for visiting. I have always had a very high boiling point and some of my best friend's have low boiling points. It makes for a very nice symbiotic relationship. I think that patience allows me to spend my work day with 7th graders. I am very good at empathizing with other people. I like that.

Well there are different kind kids and let's just say you do well for kids who need lots of TLC.

Ha, u sold your treadmill and I got a new epillitical trainer. Mine's comin in tomorrow! Can't wait to jumpstart the weightloss again! :jump:

Are you going in to the gym soon?

Summer break starts for me in a week. I think I'll call the gym next week to set up something for the following week and do my walking in the meantime.

Do they have the kind of one week free trial pass for you so that you dun have to get stuck with them if you dun like the gym? Thought it would be good...but of cos if that's the only gym u have in yr area, you prob wouldn't need one.

WHoo hoo!! Summer break is a week away. What are you ever going to do with yourself?

Have a great day Cannon, and thanks for coming by to support me. I love yoU!!!

Wow, Cannon, seems like you have a lot ot deal with! Ugh, you can't choose your co-workers, can you. Strife everywhere. Too bad everyone can't be nice! But glad you stood up for yourself--I hope you enjoy your summer break! Lucky duck! I want 3 months off! Ok done whining

Hi Cannon. Just checking up on some diaries. My sister finished school this week. Needless to say, she is ready for some summer break! I'm excited because she will visit me in China in about 3 weeks. So that will be fun.

You know, it's funny about schools. They somehow seem to have as much politics as the White House. I'm glad you stood up for yourself. These things may seem small, but it's quite empowering to use your voice. Way to go!

Hang in there. I know that the last few weeks can really be draining as the kids lose the focus, the parents get worried, and the rest of the faculty just wants out! You know what works for you..........just keep on going.

Having become a teacher later in life, there are things that are great and things that I miss. I love the 2 months off (Roughly from mid-June until mid-August) that we get. That time really gives me a chance to work on me. I hate Sunday when I'm trying to get all the usual errands done plus another 5 or 6 hours of school work. I miss the independence I had in my other job and the ability to go to the bathroom when I wanted to. I like the shorter day, but I hate having 2 or 3 hours work to do when I get home from an 8-3:30 day with 20 minutes for lunch. More than anything I miss talking to adults at work and spend my time talking to 7th graders--man that's a lot of attitude. Somedays I want to be anything, but a teacher and somedays I don't want to do anything else.

One week to go!!
