can somebody explain plateau's?

I haven't heard of this, from what I know if you keep exercising the same and eating the same foods then your body gets used to it and stops developing? I like the same routine daily especially with my diet (not exactly the same, but change it every other day).

Basically if you can't advance any further you've hit a plateau. In other words, inability to improve.

An example:

If you start bench press with your last set at 95 lbs, then 100, 105, ..., 135, and you can't seem to get past 135, then you've pretty much hit a plateau.

so what can you do to get past a plateau? is it genetic? or do you have to change your diet to be able to get past that

It can be both, usually though just changing things up (like routine) or taking a week off of training and so on can help fight a plateau.
