Can I begin body building in my 40’s?

I am 43 yrs old with no real experience in body building. I go to the gym 5-6 days a week and other then a good cardio workout, I find myself wondering around lifting a few weights and trying some of the machines. There are plenty of good workout routines here on this site so I’ll pick one or two and run with them. If anyone could recommend one, I would appreciate it.

I guess the real question here is….Am I to old to do it with any real results?

The worst thing that could happen is that I will get bored at the gym and stop going all together.

Thanks in advance.

You are not too old to begin. There is substantial evidence that resistance training is beneficial for people of all ages especially for those who are older.
One of the main benefits of resistance training is the increased ability to retain one's independence with age.

You are absolutely NOT too old to begin!

If you want proof, check out a poster here named Chillen--he's ripped and I don't think he really started training til the near-40's, maybe after. There are several other regulars here that got started after 40--go check out the Journal section of the site...

Its never too late- look at me

I returned to bodybuilding recently after a break of 23years. I am in my first contest for 23years in October in the Uk. I got into this shape in six months...

When is this BB competition? And, what is your diet and fitness routine leading to this competition?

Best wishes,

Chillen

I'm sure you'll do great, as it's not like you've been sedentary up until this point. Best of luck, keep us posted! (And wanted to say hello to a fellow Native American, I am assuming that stands for Pennsylvania Cherokee?)

Will be posting my training and cutting diet on my other thread. The contest is in the UK in October under Nabba rules. Going for trained figure now, physique next year.

Also going back to competitive fighting in Muay Thai

Yes! It will change you life! I promise.

Just work hard.......consistently and persistently. Want your goal!

I am 47 years old August 25th, and the old "wind bag" still has life!

Get a zest of life------->get into fitness......it will wake up an aging body:

Damn man! Whenever I get lazy I have only to look on here and see your results. Talk about passive motivation. I can't have Grandpa looking better than I ;) Seriously though ... just awesome.

So sorry to have misled you NeuroRN76. Pennsylvania YES, Native American. NO. I am a Jeep enthusiast, I own a lifted Jeep Cherokee. I find it easier to keep the same screen name for each forum.

Thanks for all of the great responses. I am such a novice and there is so much information to go thru. I am not even sure what my goals should be, or how to measure success.

While I figure out what my routine/diet will be, I am still hitting the gym everyday. Once I think I have it all figured out I will post it here for some constructive criticism.

Thanks again for all of the support.
