Can animals moderate caloric intake?

He is spoit, my mothers cat was like that. They eventually get hungry enough to eat cat food.

Yep. thats how my dog is. He refused to eat his dog food and usually whines for human food when we're eating. But he got sick before from some human food and we don't give him anymore.

After a while he gets hungry enough to eat his own dog food...

Speaking of pet diets, our cat refuses to eat cat food. Someone dumped him off in our neighborhood when he was a kitten and we tamed him on meat scraps. He won't eat anything but real meat. When we try to feed him cat food he looks disgusted. I guess real meat is healthier than the processed food though. He also gets to eat his share of wild critters. He virtually eliminated all of the gophers in our yard.

Here's a picture of him.

Picture sharing! :D

Oh our kitties look similar....Calvin the orange one, is our oldest, then Cicero (aka CC) and Thia.

I also have two Rotties. Both about 100lbs+ (Emma -left, Godric -right) feed them 2 x daily. Having a dog that is that overweight is lack of exercise and probably excessive feeding. Personally, if people aren't willing to take care of their pets, why bother to have them?

Mine get only dog food and dog snacks. My husband *rarely* sneaks them a bite here and there, but it isn't a regular thing by any means. Rotties have sensitive stomaches, they can't even eat rawhide without getting the runs....

Your dogs are clean~!

Your dogs are clean~!

Yes.... They are indoor dogs, with full roam of the house. So I keep them very clean. They go out, but they are always supervised, never left outside alone. I go out and I let them run and play in the yard (we have an acre fenced) or we go for walks. I use to take them running with me (5 miles a day) but I can't run anymore on the street :( so, they have to be happy with walks now.

I'm a big believer in talking care of my animals.

We are actually considering getting some pygmy goats soon.....lol :D

thanks! I love dobes too! Actually saw a pure breed Dobie at the POUND! We asked about him, (he wasn't even a year) but someone had already adopted him.....

These are my "vicious attack dogs" LOL:D

Domestic dogs and cats pretty much lost all natural hunting abilities. They sometimes remember in the form of pack hunting dogs or occasional stalking by cats. But overall, they pretty much lost all natural ability to gather food and water.

Naturally speaking, you're suppose to eat whatever your find. Humans have come a long way from hunter/gatherer. Calorie monitoring is a form of an artificial environment. It's both unnatural and not required.

Realistically speaking, in nature, your aim should be to become a massive slob. Having as much fat on your body as you should. In some culture and in past America, fatter members of society are viewed positively because it shows you eat food regularly and rarely engage in activities such as back breaking labor. If you look at people in tribal sections of the world, you'll see some rather fat people. They are usually the older members or those with high rankings in their tribe.
