Camila's Comeback!

@Camile ~ Congratulations on your decision to change your life for the better! It is a great idea to reward yourself upon reaching your goals, I encourage you to set mini goals in between with smaller (cheap/easy) rewards to help motivate you to get to your final goal!

I, too, am getting back into working out. I have been going to the gym for the past few weeks and not doing terrible but I am still a bit out of shape. I started Insanity workout and it is kicking my butt! But I am looking forward to the 4th week when I'll probably do better! Make sure that you are stretching as much as possible to eliminate the soreness. The worst is skipping a workout because you're sore and you end up having to start over!

I also have goal clothes that I want to fit back into. size 10 pants (right now size 12-15), as well as a brand new size Large dress that makes me look like an overweight hooker when I tried it on. :biggrinjester:

I'm happy you reached 159! That's great! Don't be surprised if your weight goes up and down if you're checking often!! I find that the weeks I do my best, the scales barely move but I feel AWESOME! I think Birdcage is right, I don't think weighing every day is the best idea, but if you do..Just don't put too much thought on a number and really pay attention to how you feel!

Also, just a tip me and my best friend do. If we are having a bad day, or wanting to give up we write (in marker) our goal weight on our hand. When you're feeling like you may slip just look @ the number! We recently made goal weight bracelets to wear all the time. I am almost sure with my current plan that I won't "lose" a lot of weight, but having my goal weight in my face all day is surely helping me focus.

Be careful drinking orange juice every day (unless you're making it fresh). Mostly, they have A LOT of sugar which isn't really the best for ya!

I hope you're feeling better.

I've also wanted to try juicing, but haven't worked up to buying a juicer yet.

Wow thanks to all of you for your replies! Sorry for my absence. I have not been able to shake this illness. I think I am finally turning the corner and appreciate the well-wishes!

As for weighing myself everyday...haha well there is a purpose to it. I have started tracking my daily weights in Excel to take five day averages. I feel that looking at my average over 5 days will give me a more consistent idea of how I'm doing. Otherwise I would probably just wait until a day I felt especially *thin* and cheat myself a bit. It works for me!

And as for orange juice everyday, I don't have an issue with 4-6 oz daily to take my flaxseed down (I mix it up with the juice). Now I have found with juicing my own juice that I have to be really careful about how much fruit I include with my juice. I've heard that other than apples, lemons, and limes, you should not mix fruits with vegetables when juicing. A little fruit definitely goes a long way, that is for sure.

Cory - I really recommend it. :) I cannot stop thinking of all of the recipes that I want to try with it!

Anyways, hope you are all doing well!

~Camila~

Hope you feel better soon!

The average weight thing is cool. I used to weigh every day but I had to bring my scale to work for our Biggest Loser challenge. I wish I still had it at home!

Thank you :) Speaking of scales....

I just bought a new one! I had been using this analog scale that was really difficult to calibrate and moved around wildly. Plus I had to squint really hard to see what line it was on and there were obviously no increments other than whole numbers.

The new one isn't *perfect* -- It goes by 0.5 increments but it seems pretty accurate and it is actually digital haha :) For some reason this is psychologically soothing to me.

Anyways, I took an epsom salt bath after getting home from work today. I mixed a bit of eucalyptus in with the salts and sat for about 25 minutes. I know there is a lot of controversy surrounding whether epsom salt baths are actually good for anything, but I definitely felt nice and relaxed afterwards so I cannot complain!

I think maybe a light workout and a fresh juice are in order! Lots of hydration too. I still feel like I am retaining a lot of water. I'm definitely not drinking enough yet but I am getting there!

Oh dear! A digital scale is so necessary!! Unfortunately I've donated mine to work for our biggest loser challenge. I'm used to weighing myself WAY more often then just once a week. Plus I always like to wake up, go potty, get nakey and weigh for the most 'accurate' reading.

I'm sorry if I've already said this in another thread you're in I would suggest amping up your Epsom salt bath with baking soda and ginger. Fresh ginger is best but I use the powdered kid cause I don't have time to cut it all up or shred it and it gets clogged in the tub. But basically you get the water super hot, add those ingredients and sit in it as long as possible (max 45mins). You'll sweat A LOT! So stay hydrated before, during, and after. Once you're out wrap up in warm clothes blankets cause you'll continue to sweat!

Literally the first time I did the bath I literally lost 5lbs!

I just got home from the gym, I had a great workout! I'm dreading Insanity in the morning but I got this!

Thank you for the suggestions! That is a great idea! I've just come around to the idea of baths as a therapeutic agent but I suppose it makes sense. I will absolutely try that. I saw that you live in Florida...oh man I am so jealous right now. I am up in Wisconsin and we have gotten lots of snow and cold :( I always feel like living in warm weather would make me more active than I am haha. But who knows.

Keep going with the Insanity!! I am seriously so eager to hear your results from it!!

Anyways, just had a juice of spinach, broccoli, celery, carrots, and an apple. It was pretty good. I am even getting good at washing the juicer. I've always heard it was such a pain but I've got it down pretty good. I need to stock up on more fruits and veggies.

I am thinking of trying to bake something healthy this weekend. Maybe a healthy bar with nuts and cocoa or something. :)

Hey, I hope you are feeling better!!
So good to see another juicer here!! Yay! Washing the juicer sucks lol. We have a job-share system with my husband. I do all the prep & juicing and he washes the juicer! It works well for me.

I got a great flaxseed meal recipe - healthy - if you are interested :) (well I got it from someone here - It's deelsih and super healthy!! )

Haha don't let the beautiful weather and palm trees fool you! The summer is so hot it's hard to justify even a light walk!! But it is nice during the spring and the fall. But doesn't matter, I'd probably be in the same boat either way.

I'll definitely keep going and update on my progress. I'm looking forward to the days that I don't feel like I'm a total failure at it. (They say it gets better).

Juicing sounds awesome. A girl at my job just got one, I've got to ask her how she likes it. I think you compared it to the Naked drinks and I love those, just don't drink them because of the sugar! It's crazy! Does the juice make you full?

A diet that I did when I lost most of my chub always talked about this stuff called cocoa crack. Maybe google it? I've never tried it but I just might now that I think of it. And adding almonds or something, YUM!

Hope you have a great night! Look forward to checking in tomorrow!

Justina Yes! I would loveeee the flaxseed meal recipe. :) I actually love flaxseed, it is one of the best parts of my day! And yes, washing is sort of a hassle (especially seeing as I do not have a dishwasher) but I am not too bothered by it. I just wash it immediately after making a batch so that none of the little flecks dry out! So happy that there's a juicer here. I am going to have to stop by your diary to get more tips and insight!

abitofbliss Yes the juice makes me full. It is similar to the Naked juices but I agree those have way too much sugar/taste too sweet. I usually only ever drink the green juice. I am astonished at how much adding a green apple to a batch sweetens it up. The juices I make definitely taste a little earthier than juice we might be used to, but I actually prefer it!

The juices are not meant to be meal replacements...but honestly I had one tonight (about 12 oz) and just was not hungry for dinner! Cocoa crack lol I will have to look into it!

Thank you so much for stopping by you guys!

Ok here goes: - she is on the forum too (luzdafuzz)
I use a different sweetener - it's really up to you. It's yum!! Sometimes I just melt dark chocolate over it (add nuts/coconut shreds on top)
The good thing about this is: only one portion - impossible to overeat lol!

Agreed on getting full just by drinking the fresh juice - Many say it's not a meal replacement - but occasionally I do replace meal with it (like this week every dinner) But from now on i think i ll have it as an afternoon "snack" :D

Ahhh that looks incredible. Thank you for sharing! I cannot wait to give that a try. I've never tried flax baked in anything but I've always imagined that it might go good with cocoa. Truly thank you for sharing!

Flax seed is so yummy :) And it makes me feel good!

Down .5 pounds this morning. Not a huge loss but I am almost at 5 pounds! It feels (in a good way) as though I've lost more. Funny what a few simple changes can do for your well-being! My eye is on 155!

Hope you all have a great day!

Camila! Congrats! YAY!!! You are doing awesome! Keep it up! I like that our goals are similar. Did you take your measurements? I'm going to check with the bestie to see if we can do that on Friday. I am going to research Flax seed.

I cannot wait to get my scale back... But I know that as I continue I might be gaining because of muscle, so maybe it is good that I don't have a scale @ home for the first month. I'll weigh in on Monday for our Biggest Loser challenge, it's our 7th week, so with 5 more weeks to go I really hope that I can have a chance at winning..Doubtful but possible. I am wearing a pear of skinny jeans that fit a little bit better than a few weeks ago. I am wearing a medium polo with them that I got for work back in my thinner days, I am happy that my muffin top and the tightness of the shirt are not so uncomfortable that I couldn't wear this. Slowly but surely!

Sorry - I am like blabbing in your diary!

Yay for fitting into old skinny clothes!! You are not blabbing, I love hearing all of it! I cannot wait until I feel comfortable wearing jeans again. Seriously, right now it is black pants for me everyday. I just do not feel comfortable wearing form fitting tight jeans :( But then I've always been weird about that. But speaking of clothes...

I have no idea what is going on with me. I noticed some of my clothes feeling a little looser. And seeing as I am obsessed with my new digital scale (lol) I couldn't help but see how eating/drinking throughout the day had affected my weight. Out of pure curiosity. So I got on the scale just now.

157.0 lbs whaaat?

Now, I of course am skeptical another loss, and such a substantial one at that. It is bizarre as I am usually a pound or two higher throughout the day. I realize the probability that I will be back up tomorrow or the next day...but I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts lol.

Anyways, went shopping at Trader Joe's today. I decided to try juicing mostly organic because I have been consistently getting headaches about 8 hours after I drink a juice. I have no idea why either. It took me awhile to make the connection, so I a wondering if cleaner, organic juice might help. Just a hypothesis for now. I also got kale for the first time. I've never had it...so I curious to see how it goes in a juice.

Got some new things that I've never tried before. One is Stevia extract to use as a sugar substitute. I've heard such great things about it, AND it has zero calories, so why not? It was funny, I opened it up and tried a tiny portion of it, and I was surprised at the smile that spread across my face. I am beginning to enjoy healthy food and the experience of finding new things to incorporate into my diet!

I also got organic extra virgin olive oil, organic coconut oil, and almond cocoa spread. If you've ever had Nutella, the spread is similar but truly has a nuttier taste. I love it! Cannot wait to try it with a piece of toast!

Ah TJ's has so many yummy, yummy things. I just want to eat everything right now. :drool5:

My water intake has been pretty consistent today. I should be right around 7 or 8 glasses right now. Truly I haven't been keeping track today. Just drinking a cup til it is empty then refilling it!

Hope you are all having great days!

Edit: So I made my first juice with kale. It contained:
1 Handful of organic kale leaves
3 Stalks of organic celery
1 Granny Smith green apple
1/2 Organic lemon

Verdict: It is really good! This recipe made about 8 ounces of juice. I haven't used lemon yet either and it gives the drink a nice zest! I think juicing makes me appreciate fruit more lol. Who knew one measly apple could ever give a drink so much life and sweetness. Anyways, I will definitely be using more kale in the future!

Also, I must note: Ever since I made my first juice last week I have noticed that my cravings for things have gone wayyyyy down. Candy and cookies don't even sound appealing to me right now. I also have been getting fuller much quicker. I had a basil pesto flatbread for dinner. Upon first glance I though "This isn't even that big, I'll eat the whole thing in 5 minutes." Well I could only eat half of it! So that was a nice feeling. Usually even if I am full I will overeat until I am REALLY full but I had absolutely not desire to do that either. Woohoo.

It'll be bye-bye black pants for you soon!! Your weight on the scale will jump around on you for sure! You'll want to keep your morning weight in mind when you tally up your losses, but I'm sure it's a great mental boost, eat it up! (Not literally). I'm glad you feel your clothes fitting better. My friend mentioned how my butt is getting less jiggly! I was just glad he noticed haha.

It's cool that you're doing a bit of trial and error with the juicer! I hope the organic fruit doesn't give you headaches if that was the cause.

I use stevia and I love it! I usually buy mine from amazon, Sweet Leaf has like a dozen flavors!

My favorite changing point is what you described of not craving bad junk food anymore! My problem is I always end up back some how, and my dieters high is gone. Not this time, this is the most true effort I've put in in a while!

SWOOOSH!

Thanks for the motivated :) I'm hoping the headaches are part of my transitioning away from caffeine...cross my fingers. I miss coffee :( I don't even drink it with anything in it. I just miss the smell and taste of a good cup of black coffee.

Yeah I have heard that kale should only be bought organic because of the high pesticide content found on regular store bought kale. Same with blueberries. It could certainly be my neuroses but after trying all sorts of "diets" that never worked, I've given more thought to the notion that I just need to be putting a higher quality of food into my body.

It is a little more expensive but I am only eating for one so it is not too overboard. Thankfully we have a winter farmer's market here. Haven't checked it out yet but I am wanting to before it closes in April lol. Then all of the local farmer's markets start in May & June. I live a few blocks from a huge one that occurs every saturday. I didn't take enough advantage of it last year so I can't wait for it again.

I took some "before" pictures when I first started last week. I am a little OCD (lol) so I wanted to see if I had made any progress and today I slipped into my jean skirt from my jean skirt challenge. First of all ummm wow it was certainly easier to get on. Not where I want it to be obviously but I had NO trouble zipping it. Makes sense because I've noticed my midsection feels/looks a bit better. Anyways, I was surprised to find that I could see a difference in my midsection from last week and today. Not even close to where I want to be yet but little things like that definitely keep me encouraged!

I'm sorry I am really *rambly* this evening.

The headaches can definitely be caused by caffeine withdrawls. I had a hard time quitting the stuff because about the third day out, I'd get this horrible migraine and break down a get some soda. You just have to push through it and it eventually stops.

Keep up the good work! :D

Camila, this is your diary! Ramble on woman!

I am so proud of you! It is wonderful that your skirt is fitting better. I am just going to remind you to go day by day! It's great you're seeing progress already but its only the beginning! Keep pushing towards your goals :) I wish that I was seeing results already! But I realize its only the first week and I have plenty more to go!
