Ok... so I've never really done a forum before... so hello all =). I really think this journal idea is a great new start. Ok, here goes...

How much weight do you want to lose? --30 lbs--

What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight? --5 months--

How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)? --dieting, exercise (gym, yoga, pilates)--

Who or what can support you in reaching your goal? --my mom--

How realistic is your goal? --I've tried to lose weight unrealistically before (15lbs in one month, for example). But, I'm now ready to look at this goal realistically. I want to lose this weight and keep it off. So my new goal is very realistic--

When will you start? --today, ahora--

So.. I'll be honest.. right now, I'm almost 20 and I weigh 158 lbs. I used to be 125, but stress, college, family problems got to me and I reached for food. Let's just say, eating to forget one's emotions is definitely a bad idea.

I've tried the whole weightloss thing before, I had a friend who was going to work with me toward our idea weight goals, but she flaked on me after a week and I let that deter me. That was about a month ago, and since then, I've gained about 6 lbs =T.

I definitely hope to stay on course using this forum. Just reading a few of your entries so far has given me a little bit of comfort because it's nice to know that others are in the same boat!

I want to lose this weight because I want to be comfortable with myself again. I think that I deserve it. I pride myself in being a hard worker, so I'm going to apply myself and lose this weight.

I'm open to any advice or comments you guys have. Look forward to getting to know all of you!

Hi and welcome to the forum! I think losing 30 pounds in 5 months is completely realistic. Sounds like you have given this plenty of thought which will really help you reach your goals. Keeping a journal on here has been such a great motivator for so many of us......I am sure you will find it a real help. Its great to be able to discuss things with others that are dealing with the same weight loss issues. :)

Look forward to reading your journal. Are you going to follow a specific diet plan? Or are you going the low calorie route? Best of luck to you!!! :)

WELCOME WELCOME!!!!!!

Hello~ you'll love it here- you can find great info on exercise, recipes, and everyone is great for support :) Hope you like it here, and I'm looking forward to getting to talk to ya more!

Thanks so much! I can tell that I'll like it here already :D . I was just about to put off going to the gym... but I went on this site, and I'm now resolved to go!

So far, I've been really good in terms of keeping away from overeating. It's definitely toughest when I'm working at my office and there are always treats and sweets lying aroung =T... but no, must resist...

As for your question, Fluff, I'm just sticking to the low cal diet thing. My friend suggested that I write down what I eat in order to keep track, and it seems to really be helping. I'm not a big meat-eater, so that's definitely going to make calorie cutting easier. But my main problem isn't really what I eat, but how much. Sometimes (especially when I'm stressed out) I can't seem to stop =T.

A dieting article I read suggested that overeating is oftentimes an attempt to compensate for something that the person feels unhappy about. Thus, instead of reaching for food, when I'm stressed, I'm trying to do some other things that make me happy. Mainly dancing like a fool to my favorite song or watching a favorite movie.

So... what I'd really like to know is... what makes you happy without the calories?

Ok... it's a bit bumpy at this point trying to adjust my normal schedule around working out and eating right, but slowly but surely, I'm starting to adapt =).

I can feel myself starting to get into shape... stairs are getting a bit easier, pants are fitting a bit better. But, there's still a ways to go.

Here are my calorie intake and exercise goals:
Consume: 1200 cal/day
Exercise: 600 cal burned/day

I'm hoping I can fit this into my schedule. But, so far, it's been alright! Instead of watching TV, I spend an hour at the gym... I never realized how much time I waste with television =T.

I went to the gym this morning (-600 cal, yes!) and here's today's intake:

Breakfast:
Coffee: 50
Banana: 100
Tootsie Rolls (inadvertent slip of the day): 150

Lunch:
Peanuts: 200
Chestnut bread (mmmm...): 200
Pineapple and Grapes: 200

Dinner:
Going out to eat... but I'm resolved to get a salad. Honest!

I'd really like to include a nice little game at the end of my entries. It's called Roses and Thorns... one good thing and one bad thing from my day. Please include your own Rose/Thorn, I'd love to get to know all of you better!

Thorn of the day: parking ticket for expired registration... hmph
Rose of the day: Going out to dinner for my friend's birthday =)

I really like your 'rose-thorn' idea... You're doing really good and look at your exercise, thats awesome! Enjoy your dinner tonight :) CHeers

You sound like you are doing great with your eating and getting to the gym. Congrats! Isn't great when you start actually seeing the results of all your hard work, like clothes fitting better? It really helps motivate me and keep me going.

Love your thorn/rose idea! Today is still young so my thorn and rose are probably still to come. I will do mine from yesterday though. Thorn - sick! and i hate being sick! Rose - Hubby is getting a job interview for a new job! Hope it works out!

Keep up the great work! Hope you are enjoying your weekend! :)
