Bulking/Cutting Alternation?

Hi guys - have been reading these boards for about 6months now but this is my first post.

I'd like to know the minimum period some of the more knowledgeable guys would suggest alternating between cutting and bulking phases. For example - it would clearly be stupid to bulk one day and cut the next but what about changing every week? Every two weeks? Every month? I understand that the general advice is to bulk for say 4 months and then cut for 4 months but I figured that by alternating I could minimise any fat gains I'd make in the bulking phases (though obviously mass gains would be slower too).

What's the score? Thanks in advance for any info :D , Tom

You need to concentrate on one or the other for 3-4 months then re-assess at the end of whatever phase it is you choose.

If your cutting and you feel that you haven't reached your goal, you can extend that phase for another month, then re-assess once again.

Thanks for the response LV

Thing is, I understand that this is the general consensus but what I'm asking is if anyone knows of actual biological processes that mean this has to be the case. I can't think of any reason that you shouldnt be able to cut for a month then bulk for a month but would like to hear an expert opinion on the matter.

I don't reommend either. I recommend getting good eating habits and good food selection. Everything else will take care of itself.

- 35 to 45grams of protein every meal.
- Carbs only from veggies and fruit non-post workout window.
- "Other" carbs 2-3hours after you train
- 3-5L of water per day
- Fish oil caps - 6 to 12g per day

Lean meats - Chicken, turkey, game meat, fish, lean beef, low fat cheeses, yogurt, protein supplement.

Look at it this way....

Would you rather start a nice clean bulk at like 6-8% BF or at 12-20%? I'd choose the lowest BF possible.
