I'm not entirely certain how this is supposed to work, or if there even is a certain way so for now I'm just gonna do this how I want.

Hello, my nickname in real life is Bug so you can all call me that, or my real name is Bridget. I am 23 years old and I weight 210-215 depending on the day. My immediate goal is to get down to 150, once I reach that, I will then decide if I want to be smaller. Size isn't my only concern, don't get me wrong, I want to have a smoking hot body, but I also want to be healthy which is why I have quit smoking (7 months cig free, woot woot!!)

I do 30 minutes of tae bo 6 days a week (I work 14 hours on Sunday's so I give myself Sunday's off)

It's not much, I know, but it's a start!

My biggest issue is actually that I don't eat enough calories every day (1,000-1,500) which is why I never understood why I am overweight to begin with. I've been told that my body thinks there is a food shortage so it stores EVERYTHING. I am NOT starving myself, I just don't have an appetite, I almost never feel hungry, I usually just eat when its *time* for dinner. I have talked to my doctor and she's sure that I'm just "ignoring" my hunger pains and insists that I'm healthy other than being overweight.

I can assure you, I am not ignoring anything.

I've decided to start packing a salad for lunch everyday for work, I saw somewhere that kale burns fat so I'll be using kale. Is it really *that* bad to top it with ranch? I mean salad with ranch is better than McDonald's, right?? And I'm makin myself eat breakfast when I wake up, even if it's just a yoghurt cup and a banana. This is a big step for me since I typically eat one meal a day

Also, the "don't eat after 8pm" thing doesn't really work for me. I go into work at 4pm and get off at 3am. Dinner time for me is somewhere around 10-11pm.

I'm also working on quitting pop, which is a struggle because I get free, unlimited fountain pop at work *sigh*

Quitting soda is the hardest thing I think I ever had to do. I replaced it with diet soda, and then eventually flavored seltzer water and now if I want something bubbly I have just plain seltzer. Bonus the seltzer ups my water intake for the day. Good luck with your plan. I eat low carb, low calorie so I'd eat the ranch and just measure and log it carefully. Sometimes I cut mine with water to make it go further if its a thick brand.

I'm quitting sugar as well, it's my first week back (I quit last year, then went on a work holiday and..well.. it didn't go down well). Have you watched "that sugar film"? That made me stop wanting sugar instantly o.o I am getting the sugar headaches and a few cravings, but have replaced it with healthier alternatives.

As for the ranch sauce - have you tried looking into making your own ranch? There are so many healthy recipes out there for alternatives :) Super yummy too! I don't eat much dressing so I can't recommend one. But worth looking into :)

Good luck on your journey! You CAN do this!

kaplooie- Pop is my biggest struggle. I have quit several times but it only lasts a week and I'm back at it. I can't stand diet so that won't work for me... I've never tried seltzer, I'll have to do that. What is good to drink when trying to lose weight? I know water is the best, and I do drink a lot of water, but sometimes I want something with flavor and I'm not big on flavored water. What other options do I have?

BlueBean- I've not heard of that, do you know if it's on Netflix? I don't have cable but I'd love to watch it! Ranch is really the only dressing I've ever found that I like, I think right now I'm going to keep it in my diet, I figure as long as I change everything else, it won't hurt to keep the ranch. I mean, if I cut out EVERYTHING immediately, then I'm just going to relapse and I know it. One step at a time, but eventually I'll cut out the ranch too.

I'm definitely doing a happy dance right now! I've always been too shy/ashamed/embarrassed to go to a gym alone, or with a skinny person (I know that makes me a terrible person but it makes me jealous and envious and then I get sad and give up) but I just found a curvy friend who is going to get a membership with me. YAYYYY!

I would guess it might be on netflicks? I will ask my partner, he's the one in charge of that side of stuff (we've only just got netflicks, so I couldn't tell you how to use it let alone what's on there lol!).
I drink water, cups of tea, water with lemon/orange flavour (we have lots of fruit trees). What about making orange fizzy? Soda water + fresh orange or lemon juice?

Nice work on finding a gym buddy! It's always nicer to have a friend there with you :)

I'll check Netflix when I get home! And I've never heard of a fizzy, I love lemon so I'm gonna try that with lemon! It sounds delicious!

Ok, I'm feeling SUPER guilty... Yesterday was incredibly busy for me, I couldn't even find 5 minutes to eat all day, by 10pm my day was finally almost over but I had a meeting to go to (I am a secretary for a bar part time, on top of my full time job) in a rush to get to the meeting on time I hit the McDonald's drive through and grabbed a burger. Every bite tasted like guilt. Literally, something tasted off (tell me I'm gross, but I actually like McDonald's food) but with my new outlook on life, that burger tasted awful. But I ate it, because I was starving.

Lesson learned though, I am going to manage my time better so this doesn't happen again.

I am proud to say that haven't drank any pop since my last post, it's been 100% water with a fresh lemon slice for flavor. (Plus I read somewhere that lemon burns fat)

Now I'm at work about the have breakfast which will be yoghurt and a banana, and for lunch I've packed a salad made of Kale, almonds and a small amount of fat free ranch.

Well, if the McD's burger was the only thing you ate all day you probably didn't go over your calories. Good job on avoiding the soda! I think its one of the hardest habits to break.

Tomorrow will be 1 week with no pop!! I've been strictly drinking plain water or water with fresh squeezed lemon juice.

I haven't been able to weigh myself because hubby accidentally broke the scale (he's a coal miner and his work boot are super heavy, I had a solid glass scale and he accidentally kicked it and shattered it:cry::cry:) I'm trying not to have any opinions about my weight so that I don't get disappointed if I'm wrong.

I read that kale burns fat, but I've discovered that I don't really like kale. I'm going to finish what I've paid for but I'm going to try something different for my salad next time. I'm thinking about trying fresh spinach? Salad isn't the only thing I'm eating, but that's what my lunches are. Breakfast is a banana and a yoghurt (that's my plan anyway, but no breakfast today) and for dinner today I had a grilled cheese sandwich, which I know isn't the healthiest but it's easy to cook and pack with me for work. I've eaten 800 calories today. I know that's not enough but I had 2 meals instead of my usual 1 so that's an improvement.

Even though I only have a couple people responding, this group has made me feel stronger and more confident. I think putting my success and failures out for the whole world to see makes me more diligent. I'm 100% honest in my diary and so I find it easier to say no to foods I shouldn't have because I know I will have to post it here.

Congrats on a great start :)

As a personal trainer I can tell you that having a workout buddy is KEY to staying on track!

Happy to share more tips, but wanted to just cheer you on for now!

Hey Bug! Welcome to the forum! Have you tried drinking any herbal teas as a replacement for your pop? There are TONS of flavors and I find them to be a good alternative to water sometimes. My most recent discovery is hibiscus pineapple lychee... and as a bonus it's red/pink which makes it feel fancy!
