Wow, BSL, you really take this sh!t seriously!;)

I just hope you don't lose muscle with that big of a deficit and that low of a protein intake while doing that much cardio.

My Q is...how the hell do you have such a nice following...nobody wants to visit my thread? I just talk to myself in there...

P.S. - Keep up the hard work!

Wow, BSL, you really take this sh!t seriously!;)

How so? ;) I'm just sick of working away and just getting reasonable results/progress. I'm turning it up a notch or two or six. Why work 60% and get a 20% return, when you can work 80% and get a 50% return. Ya know what I mean, I just need to do this to get results. Watch and see how my body-fat% will drop, yet my weight on the scale will be relatively unaffected. It's bizarre but I'm a metabolic anomoly. How can a guy workout & exercise so much AND eat so little....and yet get results like someone who just cut-back on bread a bit and walks twice a week. We'll see!

I just hope you don't lose muscle with that big of a deficit and that low of a protein intake while doing that much cardio.

I don't lose muscle, I stack it on like a freak. One thing I'm really adamant about is sipping my protein shake as I weight-train and then getting some good protein & carbs into my body immediately afterwards. I'm convinced that if you give your body the protein & carbs right after a workout, your muscles will repair, rebuild and grow.....then, later, you can run your calorie deficit. Just make sure you have the "goods" for your muscular needs when you workout and after your done working-out: NUTRIENT TIMING my friend! :D

My Q is...how the hell do you have such a nice following...nobody wants to visit my thread?

1) Start a thread asking people to think good thoughts just before a guy has open-heart surgery

2) Offer to send a CD of music, send it to the wrong address and then forgot to send it to the right address (resend me your address, sorry)

3) Be controversial: post threads about destroying your neighbors parties with pain generators.

In your case, post a better car! ;)

Oh crap...I need to eat more, okay, I'll eat 400 calories but it's already 10pm and I'm not gonna hit it hard. I'll just try to wake-up tomorrow early enough to eat more before the gym...but I'd better not feel digestion action when I'm spinning/running/swimming...I hate that!

GOOD NEWS
Today at lunch I came walking in and my friend (who I'm keeping a journal with) told me I was looking dramatically leaner....

And tonight we had friends over for dinner and my buddy's wife, Rachel, just kept going on and on and on about how incredibly lean I look AND how much muscle I've put on. She just kept hammering me with compliments and totally denied that my wife put her upto it.

:jump1::jump1: I FEEL GOOD :jump1::jump1:

Now...of course is analysis time, what have I done differently?

Well, I've been making progress all along....but my most recent efforts in keeping a perfect journal have really made me focus on every morsel of food going into my mouth. That alone probably cut intake by 20% by forcing me to face the fact that IF I eat it, I have to record & account for it. So yeah, a recent increase in caloric deficit is partially responsible. At the same time, the guy I'm doing the journal with (his wife being a dietician) keeps telling me I'm eating far too little.....but hey, I'm getting results!

Secondly, nutrient timing. An hour or so before I hit the weights I eat a ZoneBar (about 190-210 calories of a balance blend of protein/carbs/fats). As I do weights I sip on my protein shake and after I'm done with weights I hit the shake again. I speculate that it's like building a house: you may not have enough materials to complete the house, but IF you have the proper materials on the jobsite at the right time, what needs to get done will get done. In other words, eat before, drink a bit during and definitely have your protein shake after you weight-train and you will build muscle...even if the rest of the day is a calorie deficit (not too severe of course).

I'm also eating a bit more when I do my long-haul cardio (spin/run/swim). Not so much eating, but drinking diluted accelerade and half a protein shake after spin and sipping it each 10 laps in the pool. I'm avoiding fasted cardio. If I'm to burn 2,200 on average, I can't do it on a 200 calorie breakfast alone....you need to stoke the fire a bit, so I've been taking-in about 500 calories through the course of my 3.25-3.5 hour routine. The old "Fat burns in a carbohydrate flame" theory. I'm not quite as hungry afterwards and I get a solid workout.

I've been getting a bit more sleep lately too and hyrating as well.

I can't really explain it, but it's like falling off a plateau or something...suddenly results seem very dramatic, almost as if my body had forgotten to lose weight and now, suddenly, it's catching-up.

My running is improving, but it's still not very good. I can swim like a fish and bike like a demon....but running is my weakness. I'm looking around the treadmills and most everyone is lean like marathon runners...and I'm like a linebacker, but a leaner/meaner line-backer :D I'm getting there. No idea how FlyinFree was able to run so well when he was fat?

I'm feeling good. I'm gonna stay the course, maybe get more enthused and run this bitch into the end-zone!

Hey, BSL--You rock! Glad to see you're making some progress.

I haven't signed into the forum since the day I typed you that realkly long thingy and then lost it when my computer pooped out on me! I guess I was ticked off! Actually, work has been really busy since my assistant was diagnosed with uterine cancer and I have been alone for weeks. Working more like a tax season schedule and barely enough time to work out much less communicate about working out.

Did you ever have your thyroid checked?

Hey Diane,

No...I never got the blood-panel done, I just got determined and pushed harder. Suddenly I'm getting good results, it was almost like falling off a plateau or something. Payback fat-loss :D

Took it easy over the weekend...we were up in Lake Arrowhead and it's like being on vacation a bit. I just did a bit of exercise and kept an eye on the calories. Ran a slight deficit and maybe ran a bit over today.

Tomorrow I'm back on it....I'm seeing my nutritionist for the monthly weigh-in & evaluation; I'm sure I've got some good results! But then again, I've been sure before and my body's ability to lose body-fat and yet not lose much (if anything) on the scale continues to elude me and almost stun my nutritionist. Whatever....I'm just staying the course and not worrying too much about what that darn scale says. The clothes are fitting looser and what little remains of the waist-handles are getting smaller by the week! :)

Monday 7/21

80 cals yogurt
small piece of skinless chicken 110

Zone bar 190

1/4-cup trail mix 140

1/4 cup whole wheat pretzels 100

1-hour spin-class
1-hour racquetball

Fiber bar 120 calories in
Triple Threat bar 240 calories in
1/2-mile swimming

Total: 1,800 calories burned

2 pieces skinless chicken 220
2 cups whole wheat cinnamon LIFE cereal 280
piece of dark chocolate 100
I'll probably eat another 200 calories before the night is done

Cal's in: 1,780
Exercise: 1800
BMR: 2,050

Deficit: 2,070 54%

I'm running extra lean.....but I'm timing & feeding my activity. I can really see my stomach sucking-in, the "love-handles" becoming barely there and muscle is really bulging. I see myself in the mirror and it's almost freaky seeing someone else.

Chatted-up some spin-class hotties....Marissa & Britney; melt in your mouth HOT. I'm pretty sure my wife woudln't mind if I had sex with them because 2 wrongs of hotness make a right....yeah? I'll leave that as a theory. ;)

I'm scheduled to see my nutritionist at the end of this week...on Friday, I'm looking for some good results and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get em! :D

Hey BSL are you able to do chinups or pullups? You may not have extra pounds like I do but I was wondering if it was just me who couldn't do them.

Hey BSL are you able to do chinups or pullups? You may not have extra pounds like I do but I was wondering if it was just me who couldn't do them.

I don't know....haven't tried to do them in a long while. I'm still displacing a lot of mass and despite the weight-loss & conditioning, I rather doubt I could do many if any! Maybe I'll try next time I'm at the gym. Maybe not. ;) :D

LMAO BSL let me know how the spin class 3 some goes over with your wife.

You perverted bastard:)

SILENCE!

You call a guy getting it on with 2 other woman a pervert? I call him MY F-IN HERO. So long as they're mature & consenting woman, it's all good. The term perverted only comes into play when gerbils, sheep or anything made of silicone comes into play....but you wouldn't know anything about that, would ya? ;)

Besides, you didn't see these girls... :drooling1::drooling1::jump1:

You and I both know it ain't nothing but a fantasy. And to answer everyone elses question: YES, I'm still utterly convinced my wife doesn't read this forum. :D

Getting onto it:

WEDNESDAY 7/23

Zone Bar 190

Spin-class
Treadmill 1 mile
Spin-class
Swim a mile & some laps 2,000 calories total

Spicy Thai chicken salad
1 piece wheat bread 600 calories?

2 pieces dark chocolate, because DAMN! :D

Zone Bar 190
Assorted fruit (cherries, grape, mango) 150

3/4-cup rice 200
chicken 170
some high-fiber oatmeal cookies wife made 90
probably another protein shake & snack before night is done 350

Calories in: 2,350
Exercise: 2,000
BMR: 2,050

Deficit: 1,700 42%

Comments: I am again and again eating very low calories and exercising hard. By eating just before & during and immediately afterwards, I'm feeling quite fine...I then lean-out the rest of the time. Tomorrow when I do weights in the morning, I will give my body the food & energy it needs to fulfill that workout, but then later I'll lean it out. I am DEFINITELY getting results, my waist is feeling leaner then ever and my face is also tightening-up a bit.

OH....I finally returned to racquetball Monday night wearing my new knee brace. It felt odd at first, but in no time I was back in the swing of things. I almost won my first game and then proceeded to shut-out 2 other players...and of the games I lost, I lost by only 1 point! I can't move quite as fast so I just use accuracy OR massive power in the racquet to compensate. I played racquetball after taking a 1-hour spin-class. Note: spin-class burns serious calories, racquetball DOES NOT. It burns some, but nothing really impressive...so after spinning & playing racquetball...I swam 1/2-mile in the pool. :D

In other news, a major sport-clothing manufacturer contacted me about some of the feedback I gave them about their products. They were so impressed with my details & comments that they offered me a position on their Technical Development Team. No pay, but good discounts and I get to try new stuff for review. They also want to get my picture and feature a page on me on their website.....problem is, everyone else on their website are like accomplished athletes who have won or placed in several triathlons & other events....I've got nothing except a weight-loss story and some racquetball trophies...but no title wins or anything special. Heck, I still haven't even done my first triathlon yet. And let me tell ya, these other people (in their pages) train for 20-40 hours per week, and you people think I'm excessive with my 15-17 hours!! I just don't know...swimming in the ocean bugs me and my running just isn't strong enough yet. Oh well, something to work on.

Whew...what an entry!

Congrats on being invited onto the Technical Development Team!

If you end up with any extra demo clothing, I wear a medium shirt and 33 pants!:)

I wonder if BSL gets his cardio from the spin class itself or checkin' out the girls in the spin class! Sounds like your heart's a-thumpin'!

Well...I definitely enjoy talking smack, but in the end I'm about as capable of cheating on my wife and President Bush is in resolving the crisis in Iraq: just not gonna happen! In any conversation I get into, I'm pretty quick to drop the wife reference and my wedding ring is pretty darn glistening: I ain't no player....but damned if it ain't fun to ham it up on the forum! :D

Ya know, the most exciting thing is when I turn and notice some woman checking me out. I find it's best to sit near the clock because then I can misinterpret glances at the clock for them checking me out. Can one truly suspend such delusional notions...yes, apparently one can, at least this one! :D

But I'll give ya this much...it's kinda nice to be social & friendly with some of these hottie-fitness gals; SOME OF THEM won't give you the time of day unless they deem you worthy of being a fellow fit-person. I spent most my life being ignored or relegated as 2nd-choice for being noticed. Now my trainer (female) is telling me how good I'm looking and I'm starting to pick-up those harmelss flirtacious looks. Emphasis on "harmless". About a week ago I looked over to my right and some lady was thoroughly giving me the look-over...when she realized I saw her looking, all she could do was smile: that pretty much made my day.

Okay, okay...this is a journal but it can be like a diary and nobody is here buy my friends. So the thing is, sure...my wife grabs me all the time and tells me how good I look....but she's like the same person day after day; the impact is lost. There's just no novelty in it. When a stranger or someone in the gym is checking you out....it's just nice. Doesn't mean I'm gonna sleep with her (and by sleep I mean exchange fluids!:D)...it's just that thing people do, a sort of sizing-up & assessment. Okay, enough on that.

Tomorrow is my big assessment day....let's see how all this excessive exercise & dieting has driven my body. It's too early to log my day yet, so I'll return later. I'm sure hungry...isn't that great? ;)

Thurs 7/24

Various pieces of fuit 100 calories

Calories in: 2,500
exercise 750

deficit: 400 86% <-- smallest deficit in weeks! but still a deficit

Notes: today my body just wanted food...it's like after a week of hard/steep deficit it just slammed me with hunger trying to replenish & rebalance things. Even now I'm f-in starving-hungry! But I'm gonna run it lean until tomorrow at weigh-in.

BSL, I was just teasin' ya about those girls--I know you're a good, faithful guy...

I totally know waht you mean about really liking the attention. At 270, it hardly needs mentioning that catcalls and unwanted advances were not an issue for me. this past weekend, hubby and I and our friend Jim went to a motorcycle ride/campout. This other guy was hanging out at our campsite and kept trying to get me to show him my hooters! "Time to show your tits", he said (my friend Jim kept pulling up his shirt to show his off). It didn't take long to realize that the grumpy-lookin' 6'3" guy over there was my husband and didn't appreciate the advances, and he stopped, but then continued to comment about hubby's and my sex life, if you know what I mean. He was totally weird, and I have not had to deal with that type of stuff for a LONG time! In retrospect, I can appreciate that it came from the progress I'd made, but surely would much rather be eyed up at the gym, which has not happened yet...I will continue to aspire to attain your level of greatness, BSL!

Good luck at your assessment--I'm sure you'll keep us posted!
