broken distal radius(broken wrist)

so i broke my wrist tuesday night. got a cast today and they said it would be four weeks and they would take it off an x ray it and if its healed then they wouldnt put another one on. and for note they did not have to do any realining(closed reduction) of the bone as the bone did not move much from the break.

so im asking if after four weeks its healed how long would it be till my wrist can tolerate weightlifting? if any of you have an idea or have had this happen to you.

and possibly how much could i atrophy from this as depending on the amount of time i can't work out?

Otherwise a "colles fracture" with the dinnerfork deformity.

After the four weeks your likely going to start off with easy wrist extensions etc, im not sure but maybe two weeks after that you could start heavy again.

I broke my scaphoid bone about a year ago and I was in plaster for about 4 weeks. I took my plaster off in two because thats the sort of things I do.

I didnt really experience any atrophy basically because I wasnt training that much.

P.S I dont recommend taking your own cast off :D

no i really dont plan on taking it off myself. haha.

and with matt182's response i had saw that it was also called a coles fracture and i would hope so because it was broken with a simple break that just needs a cast to heal. hoping only the four weeks.
dont want to be out for so long.

Yeahh shouldnt be to bad, better than a scaphoid fracture. The radius has a better blood supply so hopefullt it heals quick.

I'm not sure how long for yours specifically, but i broke mine about a year about and from the time i got my cast off it took a few months just for me to be able to hold a strong grip on anything and after a year it still hurts when doing bicep workouts. keep in mind that i compounded mine and shifted it from the break a long ways but still, the wrist takes some fair time to heal.

Had a cast on my wrist for 4 weeks. I couldnt bench heavy for about 2 months. Grip is still like 75%, just be careful.

thank you all. if anyone else has any helpful information i would surely appreciate it.

well mine was compounded. it was a simple break that required no reduction of the bone since he said the bone didnt move much. so my orthapedist just put a cast on and said to come back in four weeks.

wondering about pushups and pullups and the sorts? or would you still put those on the general timetable with barbells and dumbells.
