Broken Bones and Recovering

I just want to know if there is anything that would benefit me right now as far as stretching and therapy goes. On the 9 th of Jan. I was involved in a Motocross crash. I have 2 broken fingers and 3 broken ribs. Im just now getting to the point where I think I can go to the gym. Not to lift wieghts but do go into the therepy pool and sana. Are there any types of leg and back excercises that i can do to help me along wih my recovery? My ribs are broken on my left back side under my shoulder (ribs 5,6 and 7). My doctor says not to do anything. But my frustration is growing and I feel that a least something would help...

Nearly any exercise you do causes your intercostal muscles (between your ribs) to engage for stability, plus to help you breathe heavier. These muscles add stress to your ribs, which could re-injur them. You could do some brisk walking to keep your cardio up. Other than that you should rest and listen to your doctor.

Talk to him about training with some light weight on machines, that require very little stability. Depending on how far into recovery you are, this may be one option for you. After light weight machines for a couple of weeks, move to light free weights, gradually increasing the weight to where you were before. Listen to your body and don't rush it or this injury could haunt you the rest of your life.
