Brit's Diary

So I have decided that I am going to start one of these. I copied and pasted the sticky and I am going to fill out the answers to the questions for my first post. Then, I will (hopefully!) update every day with a food log of everything I have eaten during the day, the amount of time I spent working out (and what I did), the number of "points" I have eaten during the day, and my weight.

-- How much weight do you want to lose?
about 35 lbs.

-- What is the time frame for reaching your target weight?
As long as needed, however, I would love to be at my goal weight in May when my sister moves in with me.

-- How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)?
I want to use the weight watchers program to assure healthy eating and I want to exercise at least five days a week for at least forty minutes. I would also like to incorporate more water and less fast food into my diet.

-- Who or what can support you in reaching your goal?
This forum is support, my roommate/best friend is excellent support and is willing to do the diet with me. She eats very healthily and works out daily so she is great motivation.

-- How realistic is your goal?
I wish I didn't feel skeptical but I am being totally honest and I do worry that I will not reach my goal because I have tried numerous times in the past. I do think, however, that my goal is definitely realistic and within the healthy weight range for a person my height.

-- When will you start?
Tomorrow. Sunday is the beginning of a new week and I think it is a perfect time to begin my journey. I know it is close to the holiday season, but there will be more holiday seasons to come. I can't just keep avoiding them and binging out.

1. What is your current height and weight?
CH: 5'5" CW: 164.6 lbs.

2. If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be?
130

3. At what weight would you like to be at four months from now?
140

4. Why do you want to lose weight?
To feel in control, to feel better about myself, to assure a long, healthy life, to fit into my jeans more comfortably, to wear a bikini and short shorts in the summer, to prove to myself that I am worth making an effort for, to look hot when I got out with my girls... I could go on and on but I will stop there...

5. Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as wedding or reunion? If so, when is that event?
No, not necessarily. I have been using the idea that my sister is coming to live with me in May as motivation. She is a size 4. I would like to have my weight down to where we can share clothes once in a while when she lives here.

6. What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals?
Cravings, holiday food, I love fast food so much. And so does my boyfriend. It is always difficult for me to resist when he goes through a drive-thru at 1 in the morning and I smell that delicious cheeseburger. Also, I tend to eat more and have more ridiculous cravings when I am drinking alcohol. There are a lot of obstacles I guess.

7. Why do you think that you now have a weight problem?
Besides the fact that I eat too much, I really don't know. I have never gotten the emotional side of it. I can't figure that out.

8. What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight?
Praying more often, drinking more water, working out daily, choosing healthy, low-fat meals and snacks, believing I can do it.

9. Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight?
Yes, I lost about 24 lbs. my sophomore year of high school. My mother and I did weight watchers together. She made all the meals and we stuck to the plan religiously. We also walked a mile together every night. I have gained all but 2 pounds back.

10. Why do you believe that you did not lose weight or you gained the weight back?
That's a good question. I'm not sure. I grew up in a very small town. I mean VERY SMALL. I mean, 13 people in my graduating class, 500 people total, small. When I came to college, I was taken by all the fast food. We never had any of that where I am from. My mom always made delicious low-fat meals. So I guess the taste and the price and the convenience of fast food cramped my style a bit.

11. What, if anything, has not worked for you in the past in helping you to lose weight? Why do you think it did not work?
Trying to eliminate certain foods completely has not worked because I have ended up binging on them later.
Trying to stop eating at a certain time has not worked in the past because I get terribly hungry and binge in the middle of the night.
Skipping meals has never worked before because I am so hungry by the time the next meal rolls around that, you guessed it!, i binge.

12. Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time?
Yes, I am planning to log in here and do that every single day starting tomorrow. Even if I am embarrassed and disgusted by what I have eaten.

13. Do you cook at home often? If so, what do you cook?
No. I am in college. I am taking 18 hrs of class and working 25 hrs a week. And I am horribly poor (as are most college students). And I live with three other people. So I don't do much cooking. I am going to start though. I know my roommates would love to have homemade dinner.

14. How often do you go out to eat? Where do you go?
Probably close to once a day. My boyfriend and I go to Mexican restaurants, our favorite deli (sort of like Panera), a pizza place, Red Lobster, or we just swing through a drive-thru.

15. What are your three favorite foods?
Chicken chimichangas (w/ rice and beans and chips and queso of course), cheesecake, and cheesy breadsticks.

16. What are your three favorite restaurants?
Cheesecake Factory, Red Lobster, and El Vaquero (local mexican place)

17. What are three things you can do differently when it comes to food?
Substitute simple things (i.e. egg beaters for eggs, splenda for sugar, frozen yogurt for ice cream), control my portions, and stop eating when I am full.

18. If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different?
I would be much more comfortable in public and I would finally be able to buy all the clothes that I wanted to wear. I wouldn't have to avoid a camera. I wouldn't be envious of my best friend's figure. I wouldn't feel worthless or incapable or repulsed by myself. There are a lot of things that would be greatly improved, I believe.

19. Do you eat when you are not hungry?
Yes, sometimes.

20. Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)?
Sometimes.

21. Do you hide your food or eat in secret?
I do sometimes because my roommate and my boyfriend are both very healthy and I am ashamed of my own choices and downfalls. I feel embarrassed.

22. Do you eat when you are sad, nervous, or depressed?
I have never really noticed any of that.

23. Do you eat as a reward?
I suppose. I mean, we go out to dinner when we pass a final or it's my birthday or I win a volleyball game or something... So I guess yeah I do.

24. Do you eat while watching TV or using the computer?
Pretty much always if I am not eating out.

25. What do you normally eat for a meal?
I don't have anything too typical. Either something in a restaurant or fast-food joint or something quick at home like a sandwich or a frozen pizza or a lunchable.

26. What type of snacks do you eat?
I eat a lot of sweets. I don't love chocolate but I do love Starburst, SweetTarts, Sprees, Gummy Bears, Icees, etc. I eat a lot of that crap.

27. In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing?
I walk to and from class every weekday (about one mile) and when my roommate can talk me into it (about once a week) i go work out at the campus recreation center (BA brand new facility) for forty minutes with her.

28. Where do you go for exercise? A local public gym? School/work gym? Home?
School gym. It's three stories and accommodated with EVERYTHING including an indoor pool. It is amazing and free for students. Also we do some ab work at home.

29. What, if anything, are your three favorite types of exercise?
Pilates, TreadClimber, and Walking

30. What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals?
Daily = I work at the Buckle and I am daily motivated to fit into the small jeans that I fold and toss into dressing rooms for other people. Every weekday I wake up before school and argue that I do not need to wear sweat pants again. But I hate trying to fit into my jeans and feeling them squueeeezzinnnggg me so tightly. I become very angry every week.

31. Do you have rewards for certain goals?
I would like to begin setting up a reward system for every 5 pounds lost. I remember my mother doing that when we were on weight watchers together the first time.

If you read that, I hope you enjoyed it. I would LOVE to hear your take on my answers or your reinforcement.

Well today has been horrindous so far. It's the first day of finals week and I had a final at 8am, but I wasn't TOO worried about it because I have a high A in the class and I didn't need to make a GREAT grade to keep an A. Not to mention there was a HORRIBLE ICE STORM yesterday and all night last night so I thought we might be cancelled. EVERY other university in Oklahoma is cancelled and so are the public schools in and around this city.
But no. Had to get up early. Tried to catch the first bus because I didn't want to drive. Tried running to catch it. Fell. Hurt my wrist real bad. Missed it. Decided to try to race back to my car. Ice on windshield was at least 3 inches thick. Couldn't open my door. Stuck. Called boyfriend panicking. He came. Used his elbow to break ice around door. Hurt the elbow horribly. We decided it was a lost cause with about 5 minutes to spare before my final started. I raced to catch the next bus. Barely did. Just finished my final. I wasn't the only one. But I seriously thought I was going to cry.
Wish me luck on my 10 o'clock final.

So happy to see you are back!

My boyfriend and I live together, and he is about the furthest person from a healthy eater there is! So I understand that temptation. Just yesterday he bought a cheesecake and ice cream. Yes, that junk is sitting in my fridge staring me in the face!

I choose to ignore it, because I am bound and determined to succeed, and I know you can too!

I'm glad you all are holding each other accountable! Having all that support will definitely help out! :D

I look forward to getting to know you better!

Hey thanks for taking the time to read my post! ^^^^

my boyfriend completely sucks at eating healthy. congrats on avoiding the cheesecake though! that fills me up with hope and determination :)

my boyfriend's big thing is eating at midnight.
we always stay up way too late and he loves ordering pizza to be delivered in the wee hours of the night. TALK ABOUT HARD TO RESIST!!! uggg... i'm totally over it now though. not worth it.

I can see how resisting late night pizza would be very hard to do!

We haven't ordered pizza in a long time, and I don't see it happening any time soon. Some things I just have to put my foot down about! I can handle avoiding the cheesecake, but trying to avoid pizza is taking it too far!

:D

What I'm Proud of:

I was very tempted to order something fattening at Applebee's but i totally denied it and ordered healthy.
I didn't get cheese on my sub.
I avoided the candy at the movie theater (which was really hard).

What Could've Been Better:
I could have nixed the Diet Coke. I had a very excessive diet coke day.
Left out the mayo on the sub. that's not too hard. but i love the flavor!
I could've done a lot of things different if i wanted a salad at dinner. the ranch was a horrible idea. and i didn't know it came with cheese and bacon but i could've asked at least.
I also didn't get a chance to work out. I was on my feet all day at work though. and then my dad came to town and took me to dinner and a movie. i honestly wish i could have fit it in somewhere.

My weight this week:
165.3 lbs.
