Brawny's time machine

Sounds great Brawny! You've broken the 300 lb barrier. Guaranteed if you keep up the exercise, you will never see that number again.

When I was at my highest weight (what I like to call breaking point), I joined this 6-week intense weight loss and exercise group in a local gym. The diet was just impossible. I was eating so much crap at that stage that the first day I tried to follow the plan, I was completely sapped of energy, freezing cold and starving. And that was one day! So, I decided to forget the food part and just focus on the exercise part. My coach told me that the food has the most impact on weight, but if I stuck with the exercise routine, I would at least not get any fatter! That was my goal to begin with. Not to gain anymore. And eventually the food got better. And the weight dropped off. So keep going!!

That would put you running at about my starting weight. That seemed impossible at the time, but I was also starting from a place of zero exercise beforehand. Maybe weight is less of a determining factor than just being more 'fit' even if the gut doesn't reflect that yet.

I still feel in my 230's that running sounds like a big hurdle but I think the reality is I know I can walk much longer than I can run, so it feels like an uneven tradeoff to tire myself running when I could just walk and get results.

Thanks for dropping in Butterfly!
Well it was a pretty good weekend. I have exercised 3 out of 3 days in
October. Ate 2200 calories Saturday and 1400 yesterday. I snuck on the scale this morning and was at 298.2 so I finally got that thing moving again. that puts me at 13.6lb lost since Aug 22. Nothing earthshaking but progress is progress. What kills me is 20 years ago, I would gave lost at least 20 with the same effort. It is going to take longer, but that is even more reason to get it done now. Imaging how hard it is for someone who cannot exercise. My main positive in this 6 weeks of effort so far has been how quickly my body has responded to exercise. I walked over 2 miles yesterday at a 3.5 mph pace. For a almost 52 year old fat guy who couldn't walk much more than a mile 6 weeks ago,, that is nice progress. I have this faint dream of someday jogging again but I know I am like 30 lbs away from that. Still by spring.....
But for now...October will be mine!

Great job on the weight loss , Brawny! Keep up the good work. It is nice getting into the 2's, isn't it? Jeez, if you keep up with the walking you will be running before you know it!

Exercise is awesome. I know that calorie-wise, diet has much more impact, but I feel so much better when I exercise! Which, in turn, makes it easier to cook and eat properly.

I think I have a bit of a positive snowball going. I have talked about this before way back when but here is what I mean:
You diet/exercise enough to see small results which makes you want to keep up the diet and you can add a bit to the exercise...and so on...right now I find myself really looking forward to my exercise and not minding the diet (much).

Oh yeah...someone noticed and asked if I had lost weight! I replied in a calm and cool way "yes I have lost a little" But inside I was thinking "YES!"

So my 15 year old made this awesome Mexican casserole tonight and had some friends over ...and mrs brawny made fantastic Spanish rice and guacamole.
Total calories for the day = 1750 ...barely made it.
I ran upstairs before the cookies came out of the oven.

Awesome, good job, man.

Haha! I've done the exact same thing. A couple weeks ago when I was talking about how no one had commented on my weight loss, a coworker came up to me not 10 minutes later and said, "Your face looks thinner, are you still losing weight?" (she knew I had started a few weeks before) and I just sheepishly said, "Yeah, I guess so" but inside I was squealing like a Disney princess. (please don't tell my wife)

Good job on the running upstairs- even if it is to avoid cookies!!

I am not avoiding the stairs as much as I was.

Just a regular ol day. Eating is on plan so far and I hope to get in a good walk this evening.
Nothing magnificent...just what it takes
Day in and day out. This is what I must do.

Walked for 45 minutes on the High School track tonight. started in the outside lane and moved over one lane each lap. I did all 8 lanes and then an extra lap in lane one at the end. I couldn't have done half that 6 weeks ago. Probably could have done some more but my shins were twinging a little so I shut it down there. I am satisfied with that. Calories for the day were 1590.... Gonna call that a good day. I have exercised 5 out of 5 days in October and 9 out of the last 10
Remember the old story about the tortoise and the hare? I am the tortoise. But I'm ok with that.

Have you ever watched a tortoise get excited about stuff? (Ok, it's usually food, but still.) They are the cutest things ever :D

Report on the "Brawny conquers October" campaign:
I have exercised 6 outta 6 days
I have eaten less than 1800 calories 5 outta 6 days.
It is time for mister scale to move downward!
Last week Mr. Scale did not cooperate.
If he doesn't cooperate this week, there may be one less scale in this world!
Weigh in is in the morning.

The little birdie in your profile pic might want to make a start on some scale armor :) Well done on both the exercise and the eating, by the way.
