I don't know where to start really, I've always been big since elementary school. I remember one incident when i was maybe in third grade and we had a yearly physical for height/weight/etc. well when i stepped on the scale and it read over 100 lbs, i was so sad and frustrated that i walked out. Looking back i think that no kid should have to go through those feelings at such a young age, especially about their weight. Well here i am 11 years later and i am obese and still sad sometimes but those days are starting to be in the past. In January of this year i saw that my little brother was starting to go down the same path i had taken that led me to this point so i decided to step in. Now he and i are much more active, he's even taken up skateboarding (which i couldn't do because i can't walk and chew gum at the same time haha).
I have started taking my life seriously and i learned the hard way that there are some things you have to do yourself and weight loss is one of them, i gained the weight so now i am losing it. In January i weighed 295 and i was horrified. To think that in maybe as short as a week i could be over that 300 lb mark and i realized that didn't sit well with me.
Today was a day of firsts for me, i played my first game of basketball. I was always a shy kid so competitive sports was a bit too much for me, thinking back i think i should have joined them. Well today i played and yes i was tired and yes my feet hurt and i was sweating buckets but i felt so GOOD knowing that i had worked for this and apparently i have some talent with the sport i didn't realize i had =]
When i found this forum i knew that after seeing all these amazing people on here who were in essentially the same situation as i, could lose all this and if they can do it then why can't i??? Now i log on here almost everyday looking for the next person to add to my inspiration and when i excercise and simply do things, their stories run through my head helping me get that extra rep or that extra lap and by the end i feel so much better, a little lighter and a bit healthier than before.
I didn't realize i have such good friends either but now i have not one but two skinny friends that have made it almost their personal mission to help me get in shape =] Once school lets out this Wednesday we are going to start running together for the summer months and if they are willing to do that then i know they are friends for life.
Well this is the start of my journal and i will be updating every now and again letting you all know how it's going and maybe give back a little inspiration that I've gotten by the bucket loads from this website and remember that if you take that first step your heart will take you miles. =]
