body fat %

couple ways to get a good idea of ur BF %, getcha one of those scales that tell body fat, there like 50 bucks, or you need some calipers, or a tape measure , and put the results of your measurements in the a BF% formula you can find on the internet. Or a mirror, (no sarcasim intened) , you can get a good idea by looking at your muscle definition.

When we used a bodyfat monitor on me, it came back at 39% percent?!? lol, with calipers, it was knocked down to 23% (which is more like me :))

Can someone please suggest ONE reliable and affordable method to measure body fat?

Different people suggest different methods. People with experience?

bf 681 tanita scale, its decently accurate, its about a percent or so off, of the ones they have at the gym. It gives you a good idea of where ur at physically

Thanks for your suggestion. Yes these are available in London as well for about £50 (Though it should cost less than that, if in US, it costs $50).

I have a tanita scale - it fluctuates a bit depending on what time of day you test yourself. First thing in the morning will give you a higher reading. This is the one I go on as I see it as a 'worst case scenario'. If I re-test myself at about 2pm or just after a workout, its usually about 2% lower. The scales come with a leaflet explaining the fluctuation.

For the most accurate results, get it tested at your local gym - they tend to know what they are doing.

I asked folks at gym few months ago and they said they had no device / calipers to measure body fats. Though, it is a good gym.

What method are you refering to when you say at gym?

I would get a set of calipers. That way you measure your own %, instead of what your weight and age against the norm.
Confused!!

I do not know how Body fat scales work. Are you saying that body fat scales actually do not measure body fats instead just calculate the body fats according to age, height and weight?

Or in other words, if two people with same age, height and weight went on to these scales, they would get same body fats measurements, even if one is obese and other muscular?
