hi
ive never done a public diary before so im pretty nervous
about sharing information
but am hoping it will be helpful for me and maybe even others somehow

im a female 53 years of age and weigh 242 pounds with a height of 5 feet 2 inches
i wasnt always heavy but at various times have been heavier with a few times
at a good weight
most of my problem is binge eating and have been treated for purging and stopped
and being hungry and it doesnt stop no matter what i do or dont do

i currently eat one meal a day (OMAD) and aim for 1200 to 1600 calories in it
and eat as low carb as i can because it helps with my diabetes so i can use less
insulin

i have lost probably 100's of pounds over the time of 30 years mostly thru
calorie reduction of no certain types of foods off limits - just total calorie reduction

its hard to be hopeful because when i was super active (minimum 4 hrs activity
a day) i only maintained the weight i was at even with a calorie reduced diet
so how would i ever do any good now so many years later when even that
didnt work?

currently i dont exercise as i havent been able to find one that doesnt
cause leg pain that interferes with daily activity like shopping or even 1 flight
of stairs
and i have to do tiny one goal items at a time or i just quit

my goals are to stay eating OMAD and even go 1 week with no binging

so for my 1st week i want to eat only the one meal
no binging
and can i post what i had?

Welcome to the diaries, Bluehat, nice to have you on board :grouphug: Very well done getting help for the purging and working toward better choices.
OMAD is a strategy I don't know much about but it would seem to me like a logical extension of intermittent fasting. I'm very interested to know how you get on with it! I think it's normal to be hungry when you are fasting, at least in the beginning when your body is still getting used to it.
Maybe don't worry about exercise yet and concentrate on your food intake until you feel like you have the time and energy to add something else.

Best of luck!

i didnt even get thru today
binged on chocolates
it makes me very sad

some prevention strategies
are much needed

i began omad in sept.
and i really like it
but i have not been
able to stop binging
even long before omad
i have had lots of days
with no binging but
want alot less

so i failed my 1st day
of my 1st weeks goals
but theres always tomorrow

o and my meal was vegetable soup
with homemade meatballs i made
in a crockpot

How much protein was in your meatballs ? protein has a lot to do with how long you will stay satisfied, helping to control your binge eating.

as close as i can figure
46 grams total protein?
i had about 7 ounces
my calorie counter app
said 20 grams for 3 ounces

based on your weight you need around 109 grams of protein, however if you know your bodyfat % then that number is probably less, but still not as low a 46 grams

Veggie soup is wonderful but it's what I eat when I want to save my calories for something else. Are you sure you're eating enough in your one meal?
Don't despair about those chocolates: what you're trying to do is hard and it may well need a couple of tries and some tactic tweaking to get it right. Do you know why you had the chocolates? Was you stomach hungry, or did not eating all day make you feel nervous/anxious? Were they simply there and nobody was watching? Understanding why we binge can be helpful in finding coping strategies.

i had soup today
for my one meal
and no binging.

i had to somehow compensate
for all the chocolates.
i think i ate them because
sometimes i hate my meals
and feel deprived of foods i
like
but i have to make careful meal choices
so i dont need a crapload of insulin.
(and i dont use any when i binge)

so that makes my choices very narrow
not wanting to use much insulin
and makes the OMAD nutrition more limited too
but
the insulin definitely causes me to gain weight.

im not sure how to get more protein in
one meal but its worth a look at seeing how.

im not sure any of what i said makes any sense
but at least today i didnt binge
so the week began again today.

How many meals were you having before moving to OMAD ? a gradual change may cause less binge triggers than going to one meal from lots of meals or lots of snacks.

Congratulations on not binging! Do you have a possibility to see a nutritionist to get some help regarding what food would be both safe for you to eat and nutritious enough to keep your body healthy? Feeling deprived definitely makes things harder.

i used to start eating around noon
i couldnt eat before that as the thought
was just gross
but when i did start eating and it was a non
binge day then it would be lunch at 12 or so
then a supper around 5 or 6 then something
before bed then something in the middle of the night
but on a bad day once i started i just couldnt stop
so i hated even starting to eat knowing i couldnt stop

then i discovered OMAD and am trying it so i dont
binge because then i would have time limits
and a time frame
sort of like an end, a time to stop eating
it has reduced the binging a bit

i have access to a dietician as a diabetic (t2)
and i even have a meal plan

today i had 3/4 can of corn beef
and a few cups of family made stew

i get so bloated with more than 2 cups
at a time but should have 1200-1600 calories

so that means each of my cups have to
be around 600-800 but all i can come up with
is nuts for 1 cup

another binge free day
so 2 in a row

later in the week i may see
if i lost any weight

Well done on another day without binging! Do you know why you get bloated? Getting bloated on two cups of food sounds like something people after weightloss surgery would deal with, not folks with an intact digestion tract. Do you have allergies or food intolerance that may play a role or are you eating a lot more fiber than before maybe? I honestly can´t see anyone healthily eating two cups of food a day in the long run. What does your food plan say?

possibly its because i spent a few months before
OMAD doing a post weight loss surgery diet
without the surgery
alot of what i read said that the stomach wont likely
hold more than a cup after surgery so that's what i did
i trained my stomach to get used to 1 cup no less than
1 hour apart
so it would be 1 cup food then an hour later a cup of water
for the next few hours an hour apart then a cup of food
then back to water and so on
i stopped that because it was hard to do everything an
hour apart
so now it seems that more than a cup feels bad
like being bloated or swollen
i dont know of any food allergies/ intolerances
except for milk yogurt cottage cheese or things with
milk in them
i wasnt able to follow a meal plan because i have to
shop for specials and inexpensive foods so couldnt follow
it when i couldnt get the foods on it
and it had too many carbs for any semblance of blood sugar
control or without using massive insulin doses
so im pretty much on my own

I´m sorry you struggled today. Having to deal with diabetes, lactose intolerance (I assume?) and a tight budget is hard enough without having to deal with an overly sensitive stomach. How does your stomach react to binges if you don´t mind me asking? I used to watch a British show where they´d have an overweight person and an underweight person swap meals for a couple of days and the underweight people often felt pretty sick at first because their stomachs had got so used to eating tiny amounts but as far as I can remember they all got used to decent meals again so I hope and expect your body to be able to do the same. As I said before: big changes take time and often several tries to get it right.

today was pea soup
cashews
tuna

and NO binging

i guess im not getting a whole week in
not binging
maybe that was too big for a goal
maybe should try 3 days not binging
well even so i start day 1
again today
