Blubber.. the journey

Ok so here I go,

I've never done one of these thing before although I've browsed on this site for a while, and I figured Id give this a go.

I've always been the chubby kid, then the awkward teenager (complete with serious acne) and now, well I'm 20 in December but I'm not the, "oh you know you'd be so pretty if you lost weight" girl and I'm tired of holding myself back, and feeling lousy about how I look, I'm sure alot of people on this site can relate. I want to go shopping and buy clothes I want, not whatever fits first!

So anyway, tomorrow is Day 1 for me.. I've tried alot of diets in the past, but today I weighed myself in at 92.5kg or 204 pounds!! From tomorrow, for one week I'm doing a detox (and YES I know that everyone on here isnt a fan of them) but I think, I've just been filling my body with so much crap lately (literally eating a tub of Ben and Jerry half baked ice cream a night) so I think maybe just cutting out everything for a week to start afresh, balance my body out of something might be helpful.

After that I figure I'll do Weight Watchers or calorie counting, I dunno, any advice?? (Is this how this works btw, can I ask open questions in my diary?)
I'm not the best of cooks so I'm trying to find something reasonably simple to follow. I have tried WW in the past and it worked (until I fell off the wagon) but I think something like that teaches you the best habits, gives you the best mindset.

Anyway, talk later!

PS> My bad if this ticker thing hasn't worked properly! :D

To be honest, I'm not against the "detox" approach in theory, however, in practice, I find that I have never been able to do it. I find that in the long run, making small changes progressively works better. I'd start weight watchers right away instead! Or maybe eat ice cream 2-3x a week instead of every day... Sure ideally you'd cut it completely, but then you might develop cravings and eventually binge... and then it's difficult to start eating 'perfectly' again.

Very rare are those who can make such abrupt lifestyle changes and maintain them. But if you are one of those people who could stop smoking cold turkey or give up any habit overnight, you can go ahead and try it :)

Either way I wish you the best of luck!

Hey!

Yeh that's always been my thought with them to, how on earth do people stick to them? Although in fairness, it's not like i'm doing that cayene pepper thing, maple syrup thing (can't remember what its called) I'm thinking, that if I can stick to detocin for a week, then after that, weight watchers will feel like i'm eating so much and won't feel so much like a lifestyle change, where I think if I started on WW it would feel like a diet. At least, this is what I'm hoping, I think having this diary/blog thing is gonna help though!
Thanks though Sapienta, and congrats on ur 10lbs so far!! Can't weight to I start seeing numbers like that! :)

Hi, don't know anything about the detox thing but I've just lost 3 stones so far mainly thanks to WW meetings. I also agree with eating ice cream every now and again to stop yourself craving it and then binging but keeping it within your WW points.

Hello! I know where you're at. Good luck on your journey! I did weight watchers, but not for the points or anything, but for the support of everyone there who was in it for a better healthier life. All you need is to just keep track of what you eat, and make sure you exercise. Its really a simple thing, its just keeping on track that is whats so hard! :)

Ok so it's officially Day 1 today.

Zorie - Yeh actually I found this awesome app on my iphone called My Fitness or somehting, and you can track what you eat quite easily, you can even search brand foods that put in the calories and stuff! Makes it a bit easier :)

Eyckmans - 3 stone!?! Holy crap that is awesome :D congrats to you! How long did it take you to do it?

I'm at work right now, and I'm being naughty by going on and blogging this, but oh well!
Feel a bit lousy actually my throat is KILLING me, defintely have some sort of cold. But in fairness it does make the fact I can't have solids a little easier to deal with lols.

Food/hunger wise I'm doing alright, it's a bit like, cos I've been gross and just eaten waaayyyy more than somebody should eat I've constantly felt, you know when you feel mildy nauseas from overeating? I've had that for a while, so it's nice to feel a little hungry. And not in a gross way just a, oh, my stomach is actually capable of rumbling type way! (This was before breakfast btw)

I think today and tomorrow will be tough and then hopefully it'll get easier after that, I work in a hotel, so we get free lunch (proper canteen style) so it'll be hard to say no to that! But I will resist! Plus I figure, being quite stubborn, now that I'm blogging about this I can't fail!

Anyhoo, it's actually quite busy at work so I better skedaddle! Talk later xx

Ok, so I know I'm defd a bit overexcited with this diary thing, but whatever!
Today is fine still, although right now I am DESPERATE to go to the loo as I've drunk 2 bottles of water as I never drink water, and I always read it's important for weight loss and obviously general health.
Throat is still killlliiinnnngggggg me, but whatever, least it's making me not think about chocolate haha.
oh crap.. just thought about chocolate. :D

but seriously, today is fine, right now I am just BORED! I wanna go home and watch Friends, and exercise on my exercise bike.. oh yeah!

Day 2 today!

Its going well, I feel motivated still about everything. Gotta admit though, I'm pretty keen to get to Weight Watchers or calorie counting type thing as this detoxing thing is frankly, do-able for a few days (i thjnk ill go for 5 days haha) but totally not possible in a long term sense!
I'm still a bit sick, my stomach is cramping which im not relly feeling plus I have a bit of a fever, but it's cool. Might just have an early night tonight.

Question: Does anyone know any good exercises that can me done at home to tone you waist/area around your bra and whatnot? I have an unnaturally large waist and I don't know (obviously weight loss will help) but I'd like to tone it as well, but then i've read that if you build muscle under fat itll make it bigger or somehitng! Help!

x

ARRGGHHHH!!!!

I just got my new uniform at my work (in a hotel) AND NONE OF THEM FIT!!
They have to "special order" my skirt!! :(
I feel like such a fatty!! And the ridiculous thing is, I'm a UK 14-16 (generally 16 :p) which is a US 12!! I mean, I know I'm not thin or anything, but that's not that bad right?? Surely not? Am I really SO big that I can't get clothes in my size anymore. Blegh. Feel v. crap about myself right now. Just want to gohome and eat pizza >> emotional eater much.

Didn't really help when the girl fitting me said, yeh big girls like to have loose uniforms

Eyckmans - 3 stone!?! Holy crap that is awesome :D congrats to you! How long did it take you to do it?

I'm at work right now, and I'm being naughty by going on and blogging this, but oh well!
That's odd, I answered this yesterday but my reply isn't there.
I've lost the weight since mid january so about 7 months. Haven't lost anything for the last 6 or 7 weeks though but with summer here I'm just glad to be maintaining.
I'm a amazed that they didn't have uniforms in your size as size 14/16 seems to be about the norm in England at the moment and that certainly isn't oversized.
You can't choose where you want weight to come off whatever exercises you do and if your waist is large it may be that is just the way you are built but obviously as you lose weight you will lose it there as well. Once your down to your goal weight you will be able to see which areas really need toning.

Ok so Day.3

Gotta admit, this detoxing thing sucks! I mean, it was OK at first, but the more I read on this site, and in general, this clearly isn't a way of life, nor is it practical. Plus I see people who are losing phenomenal amounts of weight through healthy eating and exercising, which is defintely more practical!
So from today I'm just doing WW (well, I will once I join!) but calorie counting type thing.. hopefully that will be better than what I'm doing now :p

I just feel a bit, I dunno, lost at the moment. Like you know when you really need to organise your room, but instead of your room, it's your life? My brain feels all jumbled up, and I can't seem to think straight! I have no idea what I'm doing with my life (which sounds very overdramatic) but what I mean is, I'm here in the UK working on a visa (youth visa) then the plan was to go to uni, but I'm not sure about what I want to study, and also, WHERE! I was thinking of going to the US of A to study, for the experience, but then I'd have to apply for a scholarship as I defintely couldn't afford to otherwise.

But in order to do that, I have to start applying for the SAT exams now, and studying and I can't seem to find much informaitiona and all the offices here are for UK students so I can't ask anyone and if I want to even study back home, I still eed to start looking into it now for mid year entry arrgghhh! And on top of this, I'm a late entry student (I graduated 2007 at 16, I got into uni then though!) But so now it means I have to do tests and this and that and I just don't know what to do. And I can'teven just keep working here, cos my visa runs out, and I don't wana go back home and work as that would just be depressing.

Blah!

I would think that all the information that you want must be online somewhere if you have a good look. If you can't find it then write to any University that interests you and ask them what you need to do. It's very confusing when you are young to have to decide what you want to do for the next through years.
Counting calories and exercising is definitely the best way to lose weight and try and see it as a lifetime change to better eating and exercise habits.

Hi there!
I wanted to wish you luck and support, you can do it! I really feel for you when with your work uniform.. I've had similar experiences.
I'd really be careful with detoxing. You should have the help of a Naturapath or a nutritionist or something. Someone who knows what you specifically need to have detoxed, and can guide you with that.
A mild daily detox you could do would be tablespoon of fresh squeezed lemon juice in a mug of boiled water(let it cool though). It will cleanse your liver, but it's not too harsh. Even just cutting out the bad foods and eating a lot of fresh, raw foods will help your body to correct itself.

I'm totally in support of Weight Watchers--I don't follow the points plan they use but the meetings just changed my whole outlook. I credit all my weight loss to my meetings! I stopped going due to working too much 2 months ago and since then, I've lost NOTHING! I can't wait til I can start going again!

Are you not from the UK then? My boyfriend is from the States and I'm from England so I can relate to the visa problems. He's got a place at my Uni here in England but havent got his visa yet so he's here on the sly whilst we wait for them to decide if he can stay or not :( So stressful but he loves England and can't wait to study abroad! Hope everything works out mate xx

Hi!

Thanks everyone for the messages, I feel very supported at the moment! :D
I'm going to a WW meeting tonight, I haven't registered yet though, as I bought some scales and I have a voucher so I don't have to pay for a registration fee, so I have to wait til I get home to get the voucher so I can get the code, but I can't wait!

Thanks Sunflower for the tip, hopefully I'll have as much success as you have! :)
Hey yeh I'm from Australia, yeh hopefully it'll all sort out! Hope it works our for your BF to, but I'm sure it will! :D

Catherine: Thanks for the tip about the hot water and lemon think I'll give it a go, it sounds nice at the least.

Eyckmans: Yeah, I should be able to find it on the internet, it should be somewhere, at the very least. I think I'm just going to have to sit down, assess myself, what I want then go from there! I'll let you know how it goes haha

Anyway, wish me luck at WW!

PS: I had to go to a store to get my uniform AGAIN today, not the best experience, but hey, least 1: its over. 2. my job finishes in December, so I want it to be loose by then! Good motivation!!

xx

Hey guys,

So didn't have the best night, I didnt end up joining WW! I missed my train home, so I got home late, and I was drenched because it was bucketing rain where I live! Didn't have the strength to walk in the rain for 45 minutes to the meeting (dont own a car)
So in that sense not the best, but I'll get there!
Still sick at the moment, its a long weekend so I'm going to be sick for the entire thing which sucks. In some sad pathetic way though, I almost hope I'll get really sick, and then lose weight haha. Not deathly ill, just sik enough. And yeah judge me for saying it, but who here hasn't thought it,especially when it's someone you know that gets sick then they come back like 15 lbs lighter and its like, shit, why didn't I get that!!

On the other side though, I'm glad I'm healthy-ish and stuff, just, it would be a nice kick start.. I guess.
But don't worry everyone, it's not like I'm planning on going and licking dirty spoons in a hospital or something..

Anyway, back to health living!

Figured I'd do a questionnaire! Sorry its so long everyone!

What is your current height and weight? 5'8 1/2 - 203 lbs

If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be? 120lbs

At what weight would you like to be at four months from now? 165lbs

Why do you want to lose weight? To feel better about myself, and to be more confident.

Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as wedding or reunion? If so, when is that event? I've been living overseas since March, and go back home around July next year.

What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals? FOOD!

Why do you think that you now have a weight problem? I've always had a wight problem, but mainly due to comfort eating/depression

What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight? I need to stop turning to food as a security blanket/an activity.

Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight? I lose 15lbs once on weight watchers, other than that it's mainly been an assortment of failed
attempts.

Why do you believe that you did not lose weight or you gained the weight back?
Lack of self control

What, if anything, has not worked for you in the past in helping you to lose weight? Why do you think it did not work?
Not having a plans et up, just either trying to eat a ridiculously small amount of calories, which lasts for a couple of days, and then ends upwith me bingeing for a week.

Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time?
I've tried, but it's boring

Do you cook at home often? If so, what do you cook?
Does microwave meals count as cooking?

How often do you go out to eat? Where do you go?
Rarely do, but normallly its cheap, fast and greasy

What are your three favorite foods?
Can I use food groups? Anything dairy- ice cream, cheese and yoghurt mmmmm

What are your three favorite restaurants?
Nowhere really comes to mind. I like kebabs?

What are three things you can do differently when it comes to food?
Cook more, eat healthier, comfort eat less

If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different?
I'd be significantly thinner, with big boobs!! :D

Do you eat when you are not hungry?
Am I ever hungry is probably a better question.

Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)?

Do you hide your food or eat in secret?
I only eat in my room - I live in a sharehouse. My mum used to hide the unhealthy food from me as a kid and then tell the rest of my family where it was hidden, in an effort to not let me eat it, as I was the fat one, so I'd have to find it, and then eat it in my room so she wouldn't know. Never really shook that habit.

Do you eat when you are sad, nervous, or depressed?
First thing I reach for is food.

Do you eat as a reward?
No, I don't do aything worthy enough of rewarding myself for, except on congratulating myself for buying the food I'm about to binge on.

Do you eat while watching TV or using the computer?
I ALWAYS have either the TV or computer when eating, or youtube on my iphone.

What do you normally eat for a meal?
Snack foods. But huge amounts.

What type of snacks do you eat?
Dips, cheese, pastries, ice cream and nutella are common ones.

In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing?
Occasionally I'll haul ass onto my exercise bike for 10 minutes then get bored and stop.

Where do you go for exercise? A local public gym? School/work gym? Home?
A walk to work from the train station - 10mins each way

What, if anything, are your three favorite types of exercise?
Walking

What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals?
I don't want to look back on my life when I'm 50, and think, I wish I'd had more confidence instead of having all these issues.

Do you have rewards for certain goals?
When I drop a dress size, I figure I'll buy a new item of clothing.

Sorry to hear that you've been having a stressful time and hope that you're feeling better soon. xx

I just wanted to say that the fact that the hotel where you work doesnt carry a 16 (or US 12 I think you said) is just silly. 12 here is really not that big, and I would kill to get into a 12.

Anyway I was reading your last post and you said something about getting bored when exercising on your bike. I dont know if they have it where you are, but have you ever heard of Zumba? Its like dancing and working out at the same time and its lots of fun. A friend brought me to one of her classes, and if I could afford it, I would be going, its a fun way to work out, and work out hard!

anyway I hope you have had a less stressful day today!

Good morning fellow WLF goers!!
How is everyone today> well I hope!

So I've been slack and haven't been on for a couple of days, bu I think I'm going ok. I haven't weighed myself or anything (wait til this thursday) but I feel moptivated.

Eyckmans> Thanks I feel a bit less stressed now, just needed a bit of perspective I think :)

Xorie: I know right! I mean isn't this meant to be an average size or somehting?? Way to make me feel crap! Aww, you will get into a 12, (and I mean a UK 12, aka US 8 ;) )
Thanks for saying that though, it made me feel a bit better.

Today, I'm feeling very curve loving I think. While at the moment, my curves are more bulges (lols) I'm loving the idea of hitting a UK 12-14, and being fit and toned.

While ideally I'd like to be a UK 8-10 (8 on top) which I think would mean I was slim, I think a 12-14 is a nice goal point, as it's a bit more acheivable, and closer!!
Looking into gym options at the moment, seeing whats cheapest.

My feet are wet also. Just thought |I'd throw that in there lols.

Later kiddos!
