Wow! She is sooo beautiful! Congratulations - what a wonderful reward for those long hours - and well done. I agree that you are looking great despite all the effort you'd just put in. You must be proud to have managed so much on your own terms.
 
So here's a question for everyone--when a last name is hyphenated, which name do you think is the dominant name--the first or second??

For example: Smith-Jones. Which would you consider to be the dominant name?

The issue is my dh wants his name to be the one people consider to be dominant--whatever. I don't care. I just want it to flow smoothly and to make sure she has both our names. :)
 
I don't know.
I tried thinking of famous people with hyphanated (spelling I know :) )
last names and I would imagine that it is the first name. Not because I think it sounds more dominate just seems that way. I mean it will always be dominate when it comes to phone books, roster sheets, ect, ect.
Take Jackie Joyner-Kersey for instance.
To me the dominance is on the Joyner. But like your comment on the flowing nicely Joyner-Kersey does flow.
I would go with which ever way sounds the "flowiest" LOL
 
There is much to be said for going for the way that things flow most naturally as you both run the names together.

Some countries hyphenate names traditionally - and as far as I know they mainly have the mother's maiden name as the first name. Having said that it is quite normal for names to be sorted in the order of the first name in an hyphenation situation so people may consider that to be the more dominant.

Use of hyphenated names can also lead to confusion down the line when that woman marries / has children as it can lead to a desire to string together a load of different names.

A quick scan on Wikipedia implies that it is perfectly valid to blend surnames and form a single surname that the whole family can go by. Not everyone would fancy that idea though!

Alternately - a surname can be used as a middle or first name - with format christianname Smith Jones where there is no doubt that Jones is the dominant surname but Smith is plainly represented too. This may provide the representation and certainty of surname dominance that you are both looking for.

At the end of the day it is something that only the two of you can decide.
 
Brist-Ha (just shortening for anonymity) sounds better than Ha-Brist. Also, normally the mother's last name comes in the middle and Daddy's last name comes at the end.
