BikiniBound's Diary

Great photos. It is great that they are small sized as it masks some of my signs of getting older that I am so sensitive about.

The books on pregnancy for mature or overweight sound very well worth reading. You want to know how to deal with the extra problems that you will encounter - but it is important not to panic about these issues. The panicking can cause the most harm. You know that you are fit and healthy (whatever your BMI/age you are fitter than many with a BMI of 25 aged 30 and probably get better nutrition to start with).

I can fully understand your desire to limit your gain - especially in the early months. I have a cousin that was slender and never realised that she was pregnant until she was about 4 or 5 months gone - she was not showing at all. She had an irregular cycle and had been taking precautions. She had even been to the doctors about getting a pain in her legs. In the end her mother twigged that it was a possibility and told her to take a test. The fact is that if she had gained much weight it would have been obvious.

In my opinion proper nutritional support is so important. You want to be hitting the right targets for everything.

You may find the following link to be quite interesting. I didnt know that the iron requirement for instance for pregnant women is about double that for non pregnant women.

If you find out about the optimum level for weight gain at each stage of the pregnancy it will be useful for a number of ways - not just for your own personal guidance. You could share it on the forum as I am sure that many people thinking of a pregnancy while overweight would find it interesting.

They say that overweight women only need to gain 15-25lbs during pregnancy. So I know what I'm supposed to gain..lol. What I want to know is how many calories I should be eating, b/c I want to eat as few as possible without hurting the baby..lol. During the first trimester I'm not meant to gain more than 2lbs. 0-2lbs is recommended. I prefer to gain 0lbs, and save the gaining for the 2nd and 3rd trimesters.

They have me on pre-natal vitamins, so I am sure that I'm getting the nutrients I need. Plus I have been watching my fitday nutrition, and I've been at or over the RDA with just my food. So I'm sure the pre-natals are giving me anything extra I might need. When I get my prescription refilled next week, I'm going to ask them if they can show me what they consist of, b/c it doesn't say on the info I have. :cuss:

I was going to get that book "What to Expect When You're Expecting," but I've read reviews that say it is very pro-technology and often scares women about all the things that could go wrong. I prefer a book that takes a more natural approach. I don't want to be induced or have a c-section unless it's absolutely necessary. I don't want an epidural, an episiotomy or to be hooked up to all kinds of machines, wires etc. That includes a fetal heart monitor as well. Many people may disagree with me, but I really hate how the mainstream obstetrics industry has made the birthing process completely unnatural. I was in the delivery room for my couins's last baby's birth, and I learned a lot from it. First of all, she was induced (all her babies were induced), they broke her water, gave her patocin of course, then an epidural, then an episiotomy. No thanks. That's not for me. The only reason I'm even going to give birth in a hosptial is b/c of my age and to be there in case any complications arise. Anyway, that is my birth plan and I'm sticking to it. :D

Dawn--I wish the pics were bigger, too. They can be, but in order for WLF to accept them, I had to shrink them. :(

Steve, MJB, Cerella--Thanks! :)

Weight is still 220.5 today. :banghead: I just don't know why it jumped up from 217.5 to 220 in one freakin' day and then won't come back down. :cuss:

Hey,
congrats (I just realized, I am one slow woman)! I know how much you wanted this baby and I am glad that it is happening for you. I also think that asking a doc and nurse (or midwife) about nutrition during pregnancy will be great.

I think if baby is a boy you have to call him Scott! Definitely!
Have a wonderful first trimester, just love and enjoy every day (especially if you have no MS) because it will go so fast! Beautiful photos! I wish I had known you guys were touring London, I would have loved to meet up for a quick hello (teaches me to read the diaries a bit more intensely from now on!).
Love, Camy

A BOY!! Booo! :p

Just kidding, if you want a boy, you'll get a GIRL, haha!

My yoga instructor is due in November, and even so, she's pretty big! I mean, she's tall (5'9") and slim/stong, but her belly got pretty fucking large and her boobs are huge! She hasn't put much fat on her, it just seems like she's gonna have an eleven-pounder.

One of my best girlfriends got preggers Mother's Day this year (she's only 20!) and she moved to CO, so I don't get to help her out during her pregnancy. Technically she was just barely overweight (hmm, 5'1" 135 lbs) but her morning sickness was so bad, she LOST 5 lbs in the first trimester! :puke: UGH!

I hope you don't get morning sickness!!!!!

happy belated WLF-a-versary - 1 year and 1 day... :D

Thanks. I remembered it yesterday but forgot to mention it here..lol

Camy--I didn't now you were in London. No way the baby's gonna be named Scott if it's a boy..lol. I know a Scott, and I don't like him. :biggrinjester:

Val--In a sick way, I almost wish I would get m/s so I would lose weight. Aren't I terrible?

nah not terrible--what's terrible is actually getting SICK! Ugh I hate vomiting more than anything else....can you believe the last time I vomited was 5-29-2004? I have come close, but not close enough! :D

I think it's hilarious that you can remember the exact date. :smilielol5:

Yesterday I was purusing a pregnancy guide and it said that women who have m/s are far less likely to miscarry than women who have none, and the more severe the m/s, the more the chances of miscarrying are reduced. So that made me nervous until I talked to my gran today. She had no m/s at all with her first two babies and they came out just fine. :D

I never had m/s with any of my babies either and trust me they all come out healthy as small pony's! LOL

13. Loch Ness. Can anyone see Nessie?? :D

I can!

Prenatal vitamins are also good for hair and nail growth...

there's lots of different wives tales regarding morning sickness - and cravings and what smells and tastes will turn your stomach - all as predictors of the fetus's gender... it's helpful when it comes to wagering on the baby pool...

every pregnancy is different... don't worry so much about it -just enjoy it...

Congratulations on being PREGGERS!!! I'm sorry I missed the announcement!!!!!! I am so happy for you. I can't wait for that day to come for me. (You know how excited I get about having a baby :D) Make sure to take care of yourself. I can't wait to find out what the gender is!! Have any names picked out?!?

:smilielol5::smilielol5:

Yeah, my gran didn't have any with her first two babies and they both came out fine, too. But m/s sure would keep me from pigging out. :biggrinjester:

Dave--LOL. I don't know how I missed Nessie when I took the pic! :biggrinjester:

Mal--Hair and nail growth for whom--me or the baby? :D
I think I've heard most of the old wives tales. Sometimes they're right, and sometimes they're wrong..lol

Brandy--I have names, but whether or not D will agree to them are another story..lmao. In the past we've never been able to agree on any. I always joked we'd better adopt foster children so they were already named for us. :D I'm sure you'll find yourself pregnant when the time is right. :)

*belch* omg am I full..lol. Yesterday we went to a pot luck at D's coworker's house. Here's what I ate: munched on strawberries, blueberries, grapes, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers and cauliflower before dinner. Nothing bad there...but...Then at dinner had a bbq pork sandwich with mustard, 1 brat (no bun), a bit of potato salad, two deviled eggs, minted meatballs with hummus over brown rice and veggies (my contribution), a small slice each of raspberry and strawberry/rhubarb pie (absolutely delicious), very small slice of lemon cake and 2 of my ANZAC biscuits. According to fitday my total cals for the day were just under 2800, although I think it might be more, as I feel as though it were 5000. :puke:

After stuffing ourselves, the 4 of us women played several games of euchre (which I LOVE) and my partner and I won all four games. We didn't even cheat. :D

I plan on taking a 4 mile walk later on today. God knows I need the exercise after all that food. I did really well on Friday, though.

I bought the ubiquitous "What to Expect When You're Expecting" book--the updated latest edition which I have found to be helpful and interesting. I also got a book called, "Ina May's Guide to Childbirth" by Ina May Gaskin--who is apparently the nation's leading midwife. From what I've read so far, I find it pretty interesting, and depending on how my appts with the OB go, I might just get a midwife instead. I'll still deliver in a hospital if I do, but I really don't want to be induced or deliver c-section if at all avoidable, and I think my best chances of doing that are with a midwife. Of course I will definitely do my homework and make sure I get a good one if I go that route. Also, it'll depend on if our insurance covers it. I'm pretty sure it would.

I have heard of people opting for a doctor to assist and getting a student - whilst others who opt for a midwife got someone with tons of experience. It sounds like you are doing lots of research and am sure that you will make a wise choice.

Camy may be able to give you lots of advice as she is a qualified doctor who has been recently studying for (I believe) a masters in foetal development.

Sorry that I havent been around much as I am away from home for a week.

Margaret--No worries about not being around. I haven't been around much these last few days, either. There is more to life than WLF. :D

Total: 4hrs 27min, 20.48 miles biked, 8.2 miles walked, avg cals p/day: 2,200

Got in some good exercise today and this week. And I kept today's calories under control. 2,200 per day as an avg for the week isn't so bad, either. It's definitely within maintenance. Got to make sure I'm drinking enough water. Yesterday's sodium was high, and water intake was not enough. I did much better on both counts today. :)

I had a midwife assist my doc and she was wonderful. I couldn't go with just a midwife due to having a complicated pregnancy (especially during delivery). If you have no problems then I definitely agree with that option. And regardless of what some tell you, doing it w/o drugs isn't that bad. You are so overwhelmed with your little bundle of joy that you forget how painful it was. I was in labor for 23 hours too!! It hurts like a muthaf***er but I would never want to be drugged during that, I wanted to be completely lucid throughout so I could enjoy my daughter's first appearance. It was AMAZING.

I know you're gonna enjoy this pregnancy, it's really a beautiful thing. Even though I puked my ass off the entire nine months, I still look back and miss having my little girl kicking inside my belly.

Are you gonna breastfeed?

Well done for keeping up the exercise and keeping the average calories within maintenance while you are so busy (and socialising). I know that you will be drinking plenty water and that will sort out the sodium.

Im glad to hear all is going well, LOL...I am wondering abt appts but they are coming up this week arent ? All of the What to Expect books are good ones:) I also took parenting classes but I was 16 when I had Kaylea:)

Yes there is more to life than WLF which is a good thing!
