Have Fun!

Travel safe! :hug2:

Miss ya sooooooo much!!

Can't wait to hear about everything.

Glad you had a great C-Mas sweetie and a nice time out w/hubby. ;)

Hi Kimberly

That trip sounds to be just what you needed. It sounds like things are going very nicely with hubby (always nice) and a nice opportunity to get away from home. The gym, swimming and opportunity to catch up with a friend all being a bonus.

I cannot say that I am a big fan of 6.45 am. My hubby always wakes up at a rediculously early hour and gets up at what to me seems the middle of the night. I tend to finally get up around 7am in time to sort him out and see him off to work.

Take care

Hey Kim! I got the christmas card, thank you!

It sounds like you are having a nice time with the H. Getting away was what you needed. Enjoy your class and try not to fall asleep!

Thanks for my card, lovely lady. Hope you had a good holiday! (Did Granny have to leave early or was Bingo closed?)

Done...still not sure what happened as I made a point to come do it before leaving for the holidays...maybe forgot to save it? Or just dreamt that I did it...

Heya BB!
Glad to hear your Holiday was fun! Oh, and btw, I LOVE that episode of ELR-that is SO my hubby and me too!

Thank you for the Christmas Challenge, I was having fun and more success at the beginning til my Dad's passing, and sorry I wasnt able to more of a team player, but I think all understand my circumstances.

I'm hoping that 2008 will be a much happier and healthier year for everyone!

Hi Yarm! Thanks for stopping by. The funny thing about this trip is that we both took a lot of crap and could easily have filled one of our gigantic suitcases..lol.

Glad you enjoyed the CC, I hope you'll sign up for the NY's one I'm doing in a couple days.

I wish you a happy New Year as well--and hope that it gets easier for you getting on with life without your dad. :)

Early Risers: You all have my utmost sympathy! getting up early sucks ass. WTF am I thinking I want to run a B&B? Better make the B&B stand for bed and brunch!!

My sleeping on this trip was horrible. The first night in the hotel my pillow was like a thin rock. I tossed and turned until 2am when I turned on the light and began pacing about the room cursing my pillow. My H laid there in bed half asleep trying to figure out what was going on. Then I called down to the front desk and 2 minutes later had a pillow that was much, much better. H was cracking up at my raging pillow fury. :reddevil: Still, I only got 3hrs of sleep if I was lucky, so I was a coffee-filled zombie all day Thursday.

After my class, we drove to Frankenmuth (a Bavarian-style village) and walked around and had a drink in a pub. I got some 9yr aged cheddar at the Cheese Haus--very sharp and tasty.

We spent that night at my friend's house, and she keeps it so frickin' warm that I kept waking up from being hot--even though I had long since kicked the blanket off me. I got about 4-5hrs that night. :ack2:

My friend made some fantastic Middle Eastern food for dinner Thursday night. H and I pigged out on it. Then we had baclava and apple strudel for dessert--along with hot cocoa w/peppermint schnapps. Yummy!

Friday afternoon was her youngest son's 2nd b-day party at Chucky Cheese, so we spent about 3hrs there. I am pretty good at skeeball. :D Then we checked into our hotel and I spent 30min on the treadmill before we went out for Mexican with my friend and her family. Got a halfway decent night's sleep last night--about 7.5hrs finally! Still tired, though.

After we checked out of the hotel this am, we had lunch at an Indian restaurant--very good food. We then drove through a scary as hell ghetto (yes, Detroit has some scary areas). I was afraid to slow down for fear someone would try to carjack us...lmao. But suddenly, the ghetto ended and we were in the nicest neighborhood--Grosse Pointe. The houses there are absolutely gorgeous. H and I stopped at a coffee shop and then took a walk around to gawk at the huge old houses. Most of them were built between 1910-1940 and are just incredibly expensive.

H and I got along extremely well the whole time and really enjoyed ourselves. H actually wanted to stay another night so he could spend more time with my friend's two boys. He really had a nice time with them--even though they are full of vim and vigour. I'd had enough of them--even though they're much tamer than they used to be. I like my peace and quiet. haha

Amber--there was no bingo, so Granny was stuck with us Christmas day. :D

Thanks everyone for stopping by while I was gone. I love you all, and will get to your diaries on Sunday. Damn--it's 4am!! I've got to get to bed. I've been watching National Lampoon's European Vacation with Chevy Chase. It's been ages since I'd last seen it, and I had to stay up and watch it. :D

Hi Kimberly

It sounds like you had a good few days despite the lack of sleep, getting up early, driving through ghettos and energetic children. All the food sounds so yummy - so well done by balancing it out with some work on the treadmill.

It seems strange to have a really nice area next to a scary ghetto. It is also odd to see you refer to houses from 1910 to 1940 as old. Our house was built in the 1930s and I dont think of it as being that old. Since my parents house was built between 1900 and 1910 I think of ours as being not that old at all really.

Take care

One of the things I love most about Europe is the very old architecture. Homes built in the 18th century and before simply don't exist here. Michigan didn't even become a state until 1837, so to us, anything built before WWII is considered old...lol. Most of the huge homes in that area were built in the roaring 20s, but some prior to WWI. There are other areas where the homes were mostly built in the 19th century, but the majority of them are in the "ghetto." You can tell from the architecture that those homes once belonged to Detroit's wealthy. It is quite sad to see them in such a deplorable state, but even if one bought one and fixed it up--you'd still be in the ghetto surrounded by crackheads constantly trying to break in and steal anything they can sell to buy drugs.

I think my lack of sleep has caught up with me. I have come down with a very nasty head cold. My nose was far more althetic than I was today. It was running constantly. :D This is very rare, as I hardly every get sick. So having a nasty cough for three weeks, and then coming down with a head cold is rather unusual for me. I've taken an antihistamine, and will go to bed soon. I'm not staying up until 4:30am tonight!!

No new pics yet. I'm afraid I may have put on 10lbs over the last week. I haven't weighed myself since the Saturday before C-mas. I'm too damn scared to after the way I've been eating. :svengo:

I'll soon get my act together and hop on the scale. I'm thinking about waiting until right before the new challenge starts. Hopefully all my naughtiness will work to my advantage in that I won't be plateauing, and will drop lbs quickly.

Tammy--I've been eating pretty much whatever I please, too. I really need this challenge as well. :D

Hi Bandy--thanks for stopping by.

I watched Steel Magnolias this afternoon. I always cry when Shelby dies. That is such a good movie--very funny except for her death. Crying when you have a head cold only makes things a thousand times worse. Holy kleenex! :D

Hi Kimberly

I am sorry about the cold. We are surrounded by germs on this forum!

IF (and it is a big IF) you have put on any weight - I am sure that it will drop off as soon as everything is back on track. Splurge pounds seem to be that way. You could end up with a real competitive advantage for the challenge - or it could drop off before the initial weighing.

Many places that at one time would have been considered a ghetto here have undergone "gentrification" where entire neighbourhoods of old houses are done up and the character changed. Urban renewal is something that is being encouraged in certain areas here. Once the character changes - property that would have considered to be cursed become appealing.

There are whole areas of London that my husband turns his nose up at and says that he will always think of it as being a dodgy area - which are now quite expensive.

My parents live in an area of Newcastle which has been quite run down for many years but is currently improving. Going back, bigger old houses did not necessarily appeal to the family market and landlords converted to multi-occupation for people like students. This meant that some areas became quite dilapidated.

Some years ago - houses about 5 minutes walk from my parents were sold in a special scheme for 50 pence.
