Hey Everyone!!
I'm still alive!
I DID IT!!
That was the hardest thing I've ever done so far--physically and mentally. The last 7.5hours were really rough. Prior to that, I felt pretty good. But I got some nasty blisters on my toes around 3am that started killing me. Around 6:30 am I had someone get me some flip flops, as my tennis shoes were squeezing my little toes--and they both have huge blisters on them. I even had a nurse (a breast cancer survivor) tape them up, but they still killed. By about 11:30am I ditched the flip flops and walked barefoot in the grassy oval in the middle of the track until I finished at 12:40pm Sat. It was pure determination not to quit that kept me going.
The duct tape saved the bottoms of my feet from getting blistered, but my little toes are in pretty bad shape. My feet are pretty sore in general, just from all the walking.
My pedometer wasn't so useful..lol. I had to remove it when going to the toilet, and sometimes forgot to put it back on for awhile. Also, I had it on wrong and it didn't give me any steps for at least 2hrs. And it wasn't very accurate mileage-wise varying on my speed. So, I sat down and broke down hour by hour and how fast I was going (I timed a lot of my laps to gauge my speed), and I estimate pretty accurately that I walked between 38-40 miles.
The first lap we did was started off by the local firefighters--in uniform. They were ahead of us, and let me tell you, the sight of them all lined up like that reminded me of too many heroic images from 9/11, and I lost it, and had tears running down my face that whole first lap..lol. Glad I had sunglasses on to disguise it a bit. I think if anyone saw me cry, they just assumed I had lost someone to cancer recently and was overcome with that..lol Ok, and what is it about a guy in a fireman's uniform that is so HOT? No pun intended..lol. I'm telling ya, after I got over my crying, I was drooling like mad.
We had a few mintues of light sprinkling in the early evening, and then a pretty hard rain between 3-4am. Luckily, I took an hour long break during that time, so I avoided all the rain.
Not sure how it affected my weight, as I haven't weighed myself yet. I'll do it in the morning. I didn't eat that much--especially at the end. I had to force myself to eat 3 bananas between 4am until I finished. Everyone kept offering me food, but I just was too tired to eat. The only thing on my mind was sitting down..lol.
My legs are pretty stiff when I've sat for awhile, but loosen up when I move around. However, my feet hurt when I move around so....
I think we raised a fair bit of money for the ACS. I'll let you know totals once I get them.
Thank you all for your well wishes and support. My office teammates were also great, walking with me and going on flip flop runs etc..lol. And my friend Kristi spent about 10hrs there, walking most of that with me. I think she walked about 26 miles while she was there. She stayed until 3am.
