biggest loser

i was watching the australian version the other night, and one of the women was looking at some food which added up to nearly 1000cals,and she said "thats my total days cals in one meal" and the trainer said to a male contestant that they were training 6hrs a day, surely that cant be correct, they would probably use up a 1000cals in 6hrs,leaving there cals at zero.

I don't watch it, but I would expect that they'd probably use up more than 1,000kcal in 6 hours of training.

No one not living in a special ranch, with special trainers and chefs, and access to their equipment, will be able to lose weight like the biggest losers. Its all just for show and to sell crappy merchandise.
Never try to train or eat like them if you're serious about getting to a healthy weight in a healthy fashion.

^ This.

And as Karky said, yeah, they'd be living off their fat. In the first week of the show, the contestants often lose like 10kg, which, if we assume that 500kcal/day would result in 0.5kg weight loss over a week, means they're theoretically at a 10,000kcal deficit daily (in reality, it's probably not quite THAT extreme, but I wouldn't be surprised if their deficit is a couple thousand kcal).

The show goes for about 3months at a time, and every week they cry like babies as if something's horribly wrong if they haven't lost 3months worth of fat in the last week. Whatever the case may be, the show ain't based on normality.

i know its not normal, but how some of the guys retain any muscle at all is unbelievable.
