Yea, Bob does seem like a good, genuine guy. I'd have a beer with him even though he'd probably hit on me.

That said, for being a trainer of the obese, you'd think he'd be more well versed in the contraindications associated with high impact exercise in obese populations.

I would pay $50 to see that. Oh and by the way... you're so conceited. Maybe Bob's into femme boys and not "butches" like yourself, doll. Either way.... I'd still pay 50 bucks. :D

I didn't catch tonight's show (b/c I have it Tevo'd), so thanks a lot for ruining it for me, everyone! haha jk

I am NOT butch, biotch!

OMG! You are too funny!:rotflmao:

I completely agree with you on the over doing it with the contestants. I have always thought they worked them too hard too quickly. I am honestly surprised that more of them don't suffer from BL related injuries.

oh but it's inspiring!!!

Actually Mal, that discussion was in the thread about the update show on prior contestants, where I (and perhaps others, but very clearly not you from your comments and continued digs about this particular word) was personally inspired by their continued exercising and pushing themselves after the show.

Well, even though I do feel Bob made a bad call by having them carry each other around...I still LOVE the show! I am inspired by how the contestants push themselves after being kicked off. That older guy yeterday looked GREAT!!! I am so impressed :)

It's amazing what one can do once you instill belief, no?

Curves is ok for people that don't have any other means. But I have to say (since I was an employee there) they don't really "train" the employees. It's a learning process - and if you are just there for your barely over minimum wage $$ then you don't give a flip what the ladies are doing on the circuit. Most of the ladies think they are suppose to "run" on the resting stations (because that's what they see others doing.) However, you are supposed to workout hard on the machines, and take it easy on the resting station - like a lite walk. Anyway, just my 2 cents on Curves.
I had one lady that was pretty fit come in there all the time. She said she liked it because it didn't make her "bulky", she liked the "soft" muscle. Personally it didn't do anything for me until they came in with a new training idea - and that was really work the machine hard and then rest on the resting station. If you did that, you could really feel it.

I haven't seen last nights biggest loser episode yet, I'm just now watching last weeks. Ha! (Tivo) ;)

My 2 cents on curves

It = Ultimate Marketing Scheme

It = Teh Stoopid

Period.

It's classical actually. Let's create a gym the makes women believe it's solely for them, when anyone who actually knows anything understands that the male and female body should be trained similarly in almost all cases.

But who cares about that.... we can make a bunch of money off the ignorant.

To add, let's create a layout in the gym that moves people through like cattle, very quickly. That way our wallets can get even fatter. In order to do this, we'll use only simple machines and exercises. That way there is no need to spend a lot of time educating our 'clients.'

You know, let's keep our best interests in mind instead of the one's who actually need 'real' help.

Cool.

Just my 2 cents.

That's really intelligent.

We all know that lifting heavy free weights makes women big and bulky.

No offense to you Sweat.... but that kind of misinformation is taken as truth far too often for me to be surprised at all when I hear about an 'in-shape' lady spewing it.

Oh I know. I didn't like Curves at all once I started working there. I had never joined before, just had heard about them.

They are all about getting in more customers, and pretty much we would guide them around the circuit one time - and then we were supposed to keep an eye on them the other two times - and when they would come in - but I don't think everyone "cared".

That's what the "fit" lady said, I didn't encourage her though. I just said, "really? Hmmm?"

It's cool that you worked there... give me some insight from the inside.

Just reinforces my hate.

The ONLY thing that potentially is a positive is it got more women off the couch, moving more than otherwise would've had Curves never been established.

But that's a stretch.

Stay tuned for The Biggest Loser gyms across the states.

I go to a Curves-type place (not a franchise). In defense of Curves and this type of circuit training, I will say that it was an affordable means for me to get off my lazy ass and workout (especially in winter when I can't walk outside) in a way that was do-able for me, gave me some much needed exercise and strength training and helped me to lose 40lbs thus far. Prior to joining this place, I HATED exercising. Now I love it. I think that alone is a great thing.

Everyone at my gym is very helpful and ecouraging. I have had a lot of conversations with the owner (who lost 75lbs herself), and knows quite a bit about fitness, nutrition and weight loss (although not as much as Steve..lol). She looks fantastic. Sure the employees there are not nearly as educated as most personal trainers would be. But they don't really need to be with this type of place.

I do what Sweatpea did, I work the machines hard, and go easier on the boards. I definitely feel like I've gotten a workout when I'm done. I love the women-only aspect, as I would feel too self-conscious at this point to work out in a gym with a bunch of men. Plus with everything being in a circuit, I don't have to wait around to get on a machine, and it makes it fun to talk to other women while working out. However, I find it hard to talk while I'm working the machines hard.;)

Just my 2 cents.:D

That's when you know you are working out right, when you can't talk! I tried not to bother people when they were on the machines, unless they weren't doing them right or they were talking to me anyway.

Then, I'd remind them to work harder on the machines for better results. :)

I did not like the owners of the Curves I worked at. They were very much hypocrites. They didn't look like they had lost that much weight since they went into the business. I was always thinking how they thought they were doing the members any good. Plus they were totally against the idea of Curves (which was founded on Christian ideas.) And they totally would not promote the company like they should've (according to the company's policies and such.)

I do like the idea of Curves and the take-offs - especially for women who don't want to workout with men. I also see where Steve is coming from.

Two sides to every story, and of course there is no right or wrong.

Perspective is a very individual thing.

Knowing what I know creates the hate.

But that doesn't mean it's useless for a bunch of people. On the other hand, it's probably quite beneficial, like you say Kimberly.

Is it optimal?

That's not the point.

The point it it's working for you, and that's what counts in your world.

Sure, it's probably not optimal, but for someone starting out or just looking to keep toned and get some cardio, it's not a bad place to start. As you said, it's working for me (and several others I know there), and that's what matters most. And at $34 a month--it's very affordable. I checked out the Y before joining, and it's $60 a month. When my finances improve, I will probably start going there.
