Sorry that I havent popped into your diary for a few days. Things have been really mad here. I seem to spend all day out walking and then at night my husband gets first choice of using the computer.

I am pleased that you are getting back into your project after the birthday celebrations.

I think that it is a good idea for you to use the cream that your mother got you from Avon. Don't just apply it like you would a coat of paint but really massage it in. I understand that the action of massaging is really important as well as the oil/cream.

I will tell you exactly what I do - you may want to do the same or something similar.

I massage my whole abdomen area for at least a full five minutes with bio-oil. I know that I am supposed to do it twice a day - but often it ends up being just once. That is the main place that I have stretch marks or am concerned about getting them. I have some in other places but nothing like my abdomen.

Bio-oil is expensive so for the rest I use body lotion or baby oil. Whatever I find in the house. I just want something to nourish the skin and use for the massage.

I definitely have loose skin at the tops of my thighs. I basically give them a good massage - about 120 down-up rubs on each thigh.

The tops of your arms are a place where it is easy to get loose skin. I give them about 40 down-up rubs on each arm. I also carry my little hand weights on some of my short walks so when I measured myself yesterday - everywhere was down or the same except my biceps which were slightly bigger. This was what I wanted.

My poor breast were gigantic and have lost a good chunk of their stuffing. Gravity hit them many years ago so it is not a pretty sight. I give them a creaming to try and help them out.

You mention spending a little time with your father in the Spring. I can certainly relate to spending time in a hotel and wanting to use the facilities - but deciding against. It is easy to feel awkward when you are a larger person. I felt that I never knew what to expect - and there are idiots everywhere.

The great thing is that it caused you to decide to take action - and that you have done so. You can look forward to next March when a new healthier you can enjoy yourself and not feel on the outside looking in.

As far as jogging goes - I think that it will be a while before you need to worry about jogging - whatever Steven says. I have been there.

I may have to jog at some point - but I have not got to that stage yet. I havent jogged in well over twenty years and frankly the very idea of it frightens me.

All that I do is walk. And I do not force a speed that I do not feel comfortable with. I must admit that I have speeded up over the months - but I notice that a lot of people think that you need to walk really quickly to get any benefit. That may be true for basically skinny people who are trying to drop 10 to 20 pounds - but certainly was not true for me.

I have however found that I plateaued and found that I needed to step things up in the manner that everyone describes - but that was easily achieved by increasing the distance walked by maybe a mile or so a day.

Dont worry about jogging - the idea of me jogging is enough to give me nightmares.

2 Hour Walk! I am in pain!!

I took a two hour walk yesterday, instead of doing the stair stepper ... Oh my word am I in pain :eek2:

I burned 1067 calories ... :jump:

cool beans ..so I only really put on 850 calories ....because there was such a large deficit!

Well done for losing those "celebration" pounds.

I am sorry that you are in pain - but I bet that the pain will ease before the memory of the birthday celebrations has left you - not to mention the joy of losing the pounds again.

Hey natalie jo,

Just remember that you can achieve any amount of weight loss if you put your mind to it. People have been known to lose incredible amounts of weight before. Do you have a long term target or are you happy simply to lose a few dress sizes?

Ultimately I would like to be 150-160 ..and 155 would be perfect ... But I might see about the 150. They say people my height... 5'6 should be 130 pounds, but I dont think so! lol I think a good 150-155 or 160 pounds will do me good ..
My mom was 5'7 and is still, but she lost to 120 pounds and was not able to even use a bike... her psyche was losing grips ..she was just too thin ...plus one of the ways she lost it was through not eating ... she would eat one candybar a day and nothing else ..she did not purge it ...

I went through a similar thing ...I would just drink fruit shakes with milk three times a day ..no food ..and I ended up in the hospital ...where I could have died that night if I didn't start eating ..so I learned my lesson really! fast ...because the doctor said ..it was so bad ..what I had done to my system ..that there would be blood everywhere and it would be internal and they wouldnt have been able to save me... it almost didn't work...what they did ..but I stayed up for the next two days ..slowing chowing on food ... and I ended up gaining the sixty pounds I had lost in three months back plus and extra forty five to fifty pounds ...not good ...and def not a good way to lose weight ...you can die that way!

And it kills your ability to get pregnant too ..
I can't get pregnant because now I am overweight and I have pcos ...but when I stopped eating ..everything in my body stopped moving and that was bad ..

so I need to be able to be capable of cycling thirty mile bike rides ..be able to walk and hike different climbs ..need to be able to think on my own two feet and need to be able to play tennis and run after the ball... tennis can really burn a lot of calories when you are chasing the ball around ...

well in one day, between walking and tennis, I burned 756 calories
this past day from yesterday I burned 1067 calories .. I am shooting for a lower caloric burning day, because my feet are killing me .. only an hour for a step aerobics walk ...

Don't forget though, you also burn calories by breathing, sitting, digesting food - don't just count the exercise calories...

COnsistency is what will win out i the end -just be consistent in your behavior and you will get to where you want to be.
 
Hi Nataliejo! Your progress so far is inspiring. And I agree that you shouldn't be angry at yourself for occasional lapses such as on birthdays or special occasions. Life is too short, ya know? The important thing is just not getting derailed, and getting back with the program. You're doing great!!

Anyway ..yep back on the wagon .. I am ...

I shall step aerobic/ just walk on the step aerobic board for an half hour to an hour ...to bring my heart beat up and burn some calories ...its almost like a hike ..you build yourselp up the stairs until you are ready to drop and my feet don't hurt as much when using it .. My arthritis is acting up really bad ... since my two hour walk in the cold ..next time I will be wearing warmer clothing ..my sister bought me a 200 dollar giftcard to Lane Bryant and Fashion Bug ..but Mainly I love Fashion Bug and love their prices .. I wear their clothes for years it seems ...and I shrink them as I get smaller so they continue to fit ... the shirts I got a Lane Bryant are not shrinking and actually are making me look more pudgier since my weight reduction ... I wanted an 18/20 ..but my sister lied and told me it didn't look big enough ..but I was swimming in it ..so I bought 22/24 ..because I like to hide my belly so I buy things a little on the big side ..well not anymore ... I am trying to buy things that fit me just right ..so 18/20 it is ... and they will fit wonderfully when I shrink in the next year to a 14/16 ..but I have a feeling that won't happen till next fall ..so these shirts are going to go along way ..the rest of the card I am saving for next spring ..when I will be in a size 22 ...

those unwanted pounds are a thing of the past lol hopefully I am tee tottering in a plateau .. I broke it today by going down to a 290 more like it ... I have been stuck at 292-293 ..so I don't feel like I have totally broke it ..given five more pounds ...or six ..down to 285 ..I will surely have broken the dreaded plateau and probably created a new, but at least I would have broken this one .. lol and ready to work on another one .. I just wish I could drop ten pounds and than have a plateau .. I hate them coming up every few pounds! lmao .. I just keep increasing the exercise and the intensity .. I run out of energy in the end ..but I am in such pain ..that sitting hurts ...

so I am going to use the stair stepper tonight ... so it doesnt hurt my feet as much .. I am sure after fifteen minutes it will hurt ..but at this point its better than pavement ..because my arthritis is killing me ..oy vey ...

the arthritis always bugs me after something like a two hour walk lol
its tuff ..but I always move in the end ..

Thanks for your kind words on my diary you have been so great!

And big congrats for breaking that plateau. Even though it can be frustrating the loss's will keep coming keep at it and you'll do fine! Hopefully your right and this stair stepper will be better on your feet. I know what you mean about the pavement its really unforgiving!

Hey everyone,
I did not hit the pavement and I did not hit the stair stepper ...
I ended up trying my darndest to find a way to put my clothes in my standing closet ..you know ..one of those bars ...

but anyway and I have to put away the multitudes of laundry Lizzy, my sister has come up with and left behind while she went to grad school ...
and I had to put another load of laundry in. And will have to again tonight and hang them all up once again ..making the room I just divulged of laundry and put away ..once again loaded with wet laundry lmao ..My mom is going to be so pissed ..we get no where when we try to clean ...its like the clothes recycle themselves and they are always drying in the other exercise room ..where there should be tons of comfy room to exercise ..when actually when you feet kick back on the treadmill you take down some nice shirts and when you bike ..everytime the pedal moves in the forward position you hit another few lovely shirts and the dial on the bike is covered by my shorts ..its all relative really! lol but I shall try to clean a little for the mom ... the livingroom def needs some help ..its scary walking in here or the hallway I keep tripping on this corner and stubbing my poor toe ..oh well ...thought I would get to exercise ..didn't happen ...but there is tomorrow ...

I think I might take a bike ride tomorrow ..
I am going bike riding Sunday with Alex on the minute men trail ..its flat ..but I haven't bike rode in at least a month ..just keep increasing my walks ..I do need other types of exercise ..time to take the bike ..make sure the tires are suited with the right amount of air and pressure and time to take off on an hour bike ride ..sounds like a plan for tomorrow
I ate horribly today! no excuse for it , except a breakage down of routine ...
time to jump back on the wagon ..starting with having

one cup cheerios with one cup of skim milk
tomorrow is another day ..and I won't work myself so hard as I did yesterday .. I need to keep it steady and not hurt myself ..

I suppose it is like hitting your head against the wall - so nice when you stop!!!

As for your arthritis - hopefully you will have some prescribed pain-killers that can help.

I hope that the pain eases soon.

Actually I am trying to avoid meds ..but I just heard your bones hallow out when you have arthritis and if I go further with out meds ..they will be gone when I am old ...

So maybe this is the year to get arthritic meds ..hmm

I just use Advil ..or the generic .. Ibuprofen .. I take four of them ... 200 mg each .. I can't use aspirin ...because it blows my stomach .. Id rather have a horrible migraine than the stomache I get from Aspirin

but anyway ..

I certainly am full... I will NOT be happy if I gained back the 2.2 I lost last week whilst kicking myself off my evil plateau! :mad:

Holy hunnies, two hour walk?? Thats some dedication... :) Good luck with the stair stepper... Its been my experience that ya gotta work your time up on those things. The very first time I ever used one, two guys that I worked at the gym with basically thought it would be fun to see who could go the longest. AAAHHHHGGG! After about two minutes, I wanted to cry. But I went for a full thirty, because there was NO way in hell they were gonna beat me.. If I remember right- we all stopped at the same time cuz we were all in pain. lol.
