Best Weight Loss Program

I have lost and kept off 35 pounds of weight! What's the magic you ask?

OK - I hate to say it but I have tried EVERY thing out there to lose weight and most offer a quick few pounds of loss that I gain back. I have spent THOUSANDS of dollars on pills, equipment, DVDs.

My magic weight loss secret then? - "you are what you eat". Sounds cliche I know but face it, if you take a pill or burn 200 calories walking do you think it can make the 900+ calorie lunch and 1200 calorie dinner not cause you to gain weight?

My doctor told me the best thing for me is to write down and add up the calories of what I was eating every day for a week and see my fitness report card. I failed pretty bad that week with a calorie total 4000 calories higher than what I should have taken in.

I left the doctor and did a search for free online sites that would allow me to track my food intake each day, my calorie burn, and the total net calories for days/weeks, etc. I found one called SPAM LINK REMOVED that allowed me to get setup in minutes with a calorie goal of 1400 calories per day and an exercise goal of 120 minutes cardio per week (walking for me). It even has letter grade scores for my daily/weekly progress.

I started using the site and began to lose weight easily by knowing what my eating related problems were as well as identifing some "surprise" foods that I thought were healthy but were NOT.

So my magic - stop destroying your body with massive excess by taking an honest look at what you are eating and make a change for the better. I still eat "normal" food and have a cheeseburger every now and then. The difference is I can afford that burger when I know I'll still be on track with my weekly net calorie goal.

Good luck!

We always discover the truth very late, but it's better than discovering nothing.

How Do I Go From Weight Loss to Weight Maintenance

Hello all!

I have lost 34 pounds in 7 months. I started to go to the gym in October of '08, and have gone consistently since. From October to January I lost no weight. However, I started to lose weight in January when I changed my eating, and began lifting weights three times a week.

I am almost at my goal, but I want to lose a few more pounds. However, I am very fearful of going into the maintenance mode. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I eat about 1200-1400 calories per day currently, and go to the gym 5 to 6 days a week. When I do cardio my goal is a 700 calorie workout, plus 100 sit-ups. On the other days I do a muscle conditioning class, and around 150 calorie cardio workout.

Can anyone advise on going from a weight loss to weight maintenance plan?

Thanks.
