best ab exercises

i know this is somewhere on the forum but I honestly can't find the thread I was looking for.
Basically, what would be a good ab routine aside from just doing crunches all the time, in order to get a complete ab workout? And what sets and reps should I go for?
The equipment I have is freeweights, a bench (cant decline though), and a high bar for pullups.

I read a study one time that looked at the best ab exercises, from the standpoint of muscle activation. Tops was bicycle kicks. Next two were crunches and captain's chair, although I forget in which order.

For lower abs (which can be difficult to workout sometimes) do lying leg raises.

When they get easy do weighted lying leg raises - put some heavy boots on.

They are brilliant for your lower abs.

Heavy deadlifts are the best ab exercises, followed closely by heavy sqauts.

I like to follow heavy deadlifts with hanging leg raises for an additional ab and grip boost.

Pikes. Hold your legs at 90 degrees laying on the floor and try to touch your toes, keep your legs up there. Just do a variety of crunches. A body ball is pretty good to use, but change it up. Go until you feel sufficiently fatigued and then start another set with maybe 30-50 seconds of rest. Seeing the abs is mostly from diet and cardio. Some bodybuilders quit training their abs after they reach the bulkiness they need and they can keep it because of their diet and cardio.

what is a prone holdand heavy deadlifts. i know i sound stupid but i have no idea what they are. and would Hip-Ups and Knees to Chest be good for abs?

Basically I do abs exercise only 2-3 times per week. I do not use any special equipment just only basic normal workout.

I do 3 sets per each abs part (upper abs, lower abs and oblique) and do until fatigue every set. Moreover, you can also see basic work out as per following links

Please also do the cardio in order to get rid of fat too : )

best ab exercise if we think outside of squats, deads, etc. It pretty much depends what your goals are, want bulky abs, want to train them for stability, rotation? There is no one best ab exercise, it depends what you like, what works for you, and what fits with your goals.
