benefits of pullups

I heard lots of people say that pullups are like the best upper-back exercise. Well im a heavy guy and i can only do like 2 pullups. Is there any benefit to doing these 2 pullups? Or should i just stick with rows and shrugs?

Do the 2 pull ups. Your numbers will increase as you continue them. You can also always add in some Dog Chinns or Fatman pullups.

haha fatman pullups...those sound like they were made just for me. Man that makes me wanna get a powerrack and a nice F/I/D bench real bad now.

fat man / inverted rows are probably better than pull ups as everyone does benches and the rows will even out muscle imbalances...make sure you use your back and not your arms though

How about pulldowns? If you have access to a machine for those, then do them instead. And do them like you would a pullup. Also, if you do wide grip pull down/ups it works on widening the back. If you can, do both and then try to 'kick' to get a few cheater pullups. Lean back a bit as you do pullups too.

Pull downs don't translate to pull ups very well.

You can do assisted pullups by looping resistance bands over the bar and standing in them for a little upward boost.

read this article for some tips to increase your pull ups

widening your grip doesnt give you a wider back,if anything closer grip gives you a wider back because it stretches your lats out more.
try pulldowns and on your last set do 1set of 5 reps pullups try one more rep every wk or 2
