Bench Press Saftey

Hey, I just started working out about a week ago and i now realize that I dont have a spotter. Is there something that spots, such as a wire that attaches to the bar and only lets it go down so far?

If you're using the thing where you can lock the bar there's usually a spot where you can set it to so it stops. If you're using a regular bench there's nothing you can really use except for a spotter.

dont use smith machine:p less stabilization, regular bench is better, atleast imo:p
and as for bench saftly, a spotter is good.. i usually dont have one, and its ok, if u get stuck under it u can usually roll it off.. just dont lift very heavy if ur alone in the gym. if im gonna lift heavy i usually just ask some random stranger in the gym if they can spot for me on one set, they usually do :)

Smith machine! that's what it's called. I rarely use it as Karky said. I do the same thing, if I'm not working out with anyone and I want to go heavy, I just ask someone. Usually they are happy to do it as am i. Only had one bad experience where the guy walked away from me in the middle of a set...

hey a related topic, is machine bench press alrite? i no its not as effective. but i dont wanna risk dropping it on myself with the other one. ive done it with a spotter b4 and it was good, but i barely hav any1 to spot me or will want to. i come from aus so not every1s nice. i usually do, (for my chest) pec flyers and the machine bench press 3 sets of each and as many push ups as i can handle straight afterwards... is that gonna do much?

ehhh, it's not as good of a workout as the regular bench. No stabilization involved, I hate using it.
