Rob,

I didn't start weight lifting until I was 15. And then, I only did a little bit. I think my max was 95 lbs. back then. So, I don't think you are doing so bad bro!

When I was a thrower in high school, I could do 180 - my body weight at the time. I' was 5'7" or so.

I don't know what it is nowadays. My RSD makes certain heavy freeweight exercises kind of dangerous for me to do, even with a spotter, so I'm not tempted to find out.

Repetitive stress disorder. Things like carpel tunnel & tendonitis. My wrists are a little effed up, so when I'm benching, they tend to bend and overextend -- so I run the risk of injuring them further.

Physical therapy, and a lot of rest. Unfortunately, I don't have the money for the former, and since I run a web business it's kind of hard for me to go for more than an hour or so without sitting at a keyboard and typing madly away.

I do have forearm splints that I can use to limit the stress on my wrists while I type -- and I do believe that there are straps and such I can use to help my workout -- but until things slow down in my life it looks like I'm going to have to just do whatever workouts are safe for me to do.

Fortunately I can still use machines pretty effectively and so I can still get bigger with more tone. Unfortunately, I prefer free weights to machines for their practical value (strengthening syndergists, etc.).

It has been a while. I may try for a max on Friday. How many warm up sets do you perform before you go for the max? Although I want to warm up the muscle, I do not want to exhaust it either

Thanks

8 rep @ ~ easy
6 rep @ ~ easy
5 rep @ ~ easy
1 rep @ ~ easy/moderate
1 rep @ ~ moderate
1 rep @ ~ heavy

that's the scheme i follow when maxing..

well i suck at benching. in general, its my least improved muscle which is bcause i started benching after i had been going to the gym for about 5-6 months and then i had to get the "grasp of it". i'll post my stats anyway. today i did 105 pounds for 1 set of 5 reps, 1 set of 3 reps, and 1 set of 3 failure reps. just to add, i brought the bar all the way down to my chest instead of halfway in which ive already posted a question about the difference of those (besidedes being harder to do).

Finally had a spotter yesterday and decided to try for my max. Got 185 up just barely. 20 years old, 5'10'' and as of this morning 167lbs

Must... get... stronger =\

i love the iron game my stat's
