Hello everyone,
I'm 28, 6'1", 215 lbs. I've been losing weight for the last year with decent results (I think around 50 lbs down since last August). I've been extremely happy with losing the weight, but I've noticed that I am starting to look like a toothpick and I've decided I'd like to build some muscle, especially in my upper body. I do have some decent muscles in my calves, upper legs and forearms, but my abs, chest, back, upper arms all need quite a bit of work.
Unfortunately, most of my weight loss is due to dieting, which I know without exercise isn't a good idea. I'm going to start riding my bike and run for some basic exercise, but I am at a loss for working on what I should do for a routine to help work on my trouble areas and improve my good areas. The only equipment I have right now is a couple 15 lb dumbbells that can be upgraded, I am willing to purchase a gym membership (maybe a personal trainer?) and/or other equipment as needed.
I've never really done any type of muscle training in my life, so I really am at a loss right now. So if anyone has any advice or suggestions, I would be most appreciative. If anything needs to be clarified or expanded upon, please let me know as well.
Thank you,
- Lance B.
