Beginer need serious help

Hi,
I just started on the fourm and I just started working out like yesterday but I don't know if i made a mistake.

I'm just workin out my arms cause i have a commitment problem so if i take a bunch on at once i won't do it but anyways I'm lifting 5 pounds 35 reps 4 sets and i was wondering I did it yesterday and when i woke up my arms hurt but it was the muscle acid that was causeing the pain (or something like that i heard it in science) so I went ahead and did it again today but now my arms are killing me but its the same type of pain but the pain is horriable i can't do a full extension of my arm but only my right is hurting (for somereason its bigger but not that much). What am i doing wrong i know this is a beginer question but i'm just starting so any help would be great thanks.

Normal Problem

Especially when first starting to work out, you will feel sore corresponding to the muscles you worked. If you work them hard enough, that soreness turns to pain - perfectly normal. It basically means your body isn't used to that type of physical activity, and it needs time to adjust. DO NOT LIFT WHEN YOU ARE SORE. This is counterproductive in most cases.

It sounds like it might be worth your while to consult a personal trainer to learn proper movements, etc.

no problem!

Usually, if it's really bad, it could last about a week. The best way to get over it is to stretch your muscles several times a day in slow, correct form. It sounds like you were doing bicep curls - so your biceps are sore. Trust me, I know the pain, but it will go away! :D

thank you for all your help and its getting better now :> i can do more of an extension with my arm but thank you and now i kno for future weight lifting not to make the mistake again.

Fergie,

When you life, you should never work the same muscle group two days in a row. The real benefit from weight training comes when you're resting, allowing the muscle to repair itself and grow.

Rather than just doing arms, start with an upper body workout and a lower body workout alternating every other day, with a day off. Something simple shouldn't take much more than a half hour.

i see well things i'd like to work out most is my cheast (pecks), my arms and my legs because i'm starting football next spring trying for wide reciver or running back so i need to work cheast and arms for upperbody strength and my legs for speed. Tho i'm aiming for a body like Randy Orton from WWE not a giant body builder type.

If you're going to limit yourself to 1 exercise I'd make sure to do an exercise that will help get you to your goals. Try squats or deadlifts - to be safe get someone with more experience to show you how to properly do the exercises.

I don't understand the commitment issues and I'm not going to lie like todays TV commercials....training IS hard and takes discipline. I'm sure you can accomplish it, find a trainer or someone who can educate you in the gym. I'm looking forward to hearing about your progress in the future.

I apologize if any of this sounds the least bit harsh, but doing curls will, most likely, not get you to your goals.

Good luck with football.
