Hi EVERYONE !!

I absolutely love this forum and the progress that everyone is making...
I started my weightloss journey on 4th Jan 2009 when I found out that I weighed 145 lbs. 145 for my body frame and height is a bit much. SO - here are my 'Before' and 'NOW' pics... AFTER will come sooooon! :)

The first 3 Pics are when I was 145 lbs.. I'm going to find a few better 'before' pics so that the difference can be more obvious..

AFTER pics were taken today at work and I'm 131.4 right now....

Much love and luck to all!

Good luck on that, Its funny that you are so light and calling yourself overweight - but clearly you have a fine bone structure. I had a co-worker who was considered chubby who weighed half what i weigh almost once lol - i swear she was 4'8 and TINY!

Good luck on loosing the rest though, i see you have already made good progress!

Hey wishes!
Thanks SO much...! Everyone tells me that but my body requires a LOT of toning and what freaked me out the MOST was my body fat % when I weighed 145 lbs.. it was 34% and the chart said my health was poor. I know better now to not care as much....
BUT I do want to reduce my body fat % and get more toned..

Looks like you're well on your way to your goal! Good luck!

How tall are you?

Thanks Shep03! I'm 5.2" tall.

im soooo proud of you! your going to be reaching your goal before you know it.

You look great. Seriously, you are purty. :D I can tell a noticeable difference and you have great curves too. I am wondering though, what method did you use to determine body fat percentage? Some methods are pretty accurate and some are very inaccurate. Just curious.

Hey Derrick! Thank you very much :)
My gym has the whole body composition thing where you put in your height and age and then once you stand on it, it tells you your weight, body fat % and a few other things that I never pay attention too!...I don't know if that's accurate or not but they wouldn't keep it at the gym if it wasn't, right?

I don't know any other method of measuring though...except for measuring etc...which I personally find too tedious.. :)

Do you know any better?

Those use bioelectrical impedance and even though they are popular at gyms they are quite inaccurate. On the vast majority of people they read very high. On some people they can be somewhat accurate but in most cases they are not. I have one at home that is nice but not accurate. It has lasted 10 years and always reads accurate weight but the body fat fluctuates 6 percent and is always much higher than I actually am. I have used skin calipers and underwater weighing so I know exactly where I am body fat wise. Last August the underwater method said I was 25.3% body fat. The skin calipers said I was 24.9% body fat. The average was used and determined I was 25.1% body fat. Do you know what my Tanita body fat scale said at home? Try anywhere from 28 to 34%! How about the hand held version at the gym? How about 34%?!?

Today I am right around 14% body fat. I know this because I still use the skin fold calipers, I know how much muscle I had back in August and I can assume I at least have maintained that amount of muscle if not gained a pound or two. I also have my scale at home. Using those three methods and pretty simple math I know I am anywhere from 13% to 15%. Probably no more or no less. My scale at home still reads anywhere from 16 to 21%. So it is good in the sense that even using my scale at home, I still know I have lost body fat since last August. But is it precise? Nope.

My advice is to use the skin fold method and if they are willing, have them do four or five sites as opposed to three sites. The more sites the more accurate in my opinion.

Here is a link to look at:

Hey Melissa!

Thanks! Wow - so our goals are almost the SAME! OK.. So I've been at this since Jan 2009. Ofcourse I'm OK with writing what I did/do here... :)
Frankly speaking I do the most simple things but the only thing is that I have stuck to what I do like Super-Glue!!

Basically - I eat 1000 calories per day AND I exercise 5 times a week.

FOOD-
I haven't bothered a lot with WHAT I eat as long as I'm within 1000 calories. Of course though to maintain 1000 calories you do end up eating healthy things. I haven't gone 'over' my budget since I started.
What I normally eat:

Breakfast: Coffee + Oatmeal or Banana+light&fit yogurt
Lunch: Sandwich or Salad or Soup (Once a week we go for thai where I only eat half of what is served)
Snacks - Apple or 100 calorie packs+ Coffee
Dinner - Eggs+bread or salty pancakes with veggies or mixed sprouts
Dessert - 1 bar of Skinny dippers or weightwatchers' Chocolate cake.

Ofcourse there are variations to the above but this is just to give you an idea..
If I go out clubbing I normally stick to red wine or MGD light which is 64 calories. I'm cutting out alcohol for a month now to see if it makes a difference in my belly.

WORKOUT (Before)-

60 Mins Medium intensity cardio
+
Split Body parts workout

I did the above for 4 weeks after which I was stuck at 133 lbs for a while so I changed it to the below since the last 7-8 days.

WORKOUT (Now) -

3 days a week:
30 Mins HIIT (Including 5 min Warm up + 5 min Cool down)
+
Full Body workout

2 days a week:

60 Mins Elliptical/Bike/Climber
+
Stretching

I definitely do see the HIIT helping me a LOT!!! I do it only on the treadmills though. I walk/run between 4.5 mph to 9.0 mph during the sessions.

With the above food +exercise I'm never starved or over eating..
I weighed myself yesterday evening before working out and I was 130.4 lbs! :)

I REALLY hope this helped please let me know if you have more questions or if I wasn't clear about anything!

ALL the best and I DEFINITELY want to hear about your progress!!!!

Best Regards,

Pooja

The excercising is great and the foods you are eating are good too but if you want my honest opinion I think 1000 calories a day could hurt you in the long run. I know you are getting good results now but if start thinking about slowly adding some calories back in to your diet. I don't know what the math comes out at but I would think you should at least be getting 1400 to 1600 calories a day, possibly even more with as much as you are excercising. Just consider it or at least do some research on it. I think some of the stickies here can point you to some good info in regards to just how many calories you should really be taking in each day. However, I would guess that you might be getting a tad more than you think...which is a good thing if that is the case because I really do think you need a little more than 1000 and heck, it's working!

Also, after another 4 or 6 weeks try doing the weight lifting before the cardio for a while. You may or may not see any noticeable change but its just another way to keep things new and different and also to challenge your body a little differently.

Good luck and keep at it!

Thank you so much for sharing your diet and exercise plans!!! This week i lost 2 lbs doing my routine and i was psyched!!!! its funny because our plans are even similar just like our goals!!!! Im routing for ya girl!!! way to go!!!!

check my journal sometime... im new so im not getting many cheerleaders so any comments are so encouraging lol!!!!! :smilielol5:

BEST OF LUCK!!!!! KEEP AT IT WOMAN!!!!!

Hey Derrick! Thanks a lot for your input - Well 1000 calories is Net so I can eat 1200 calories but if I burn 300 during a workout I'll be down to 900. So it's not like I eat 1000 whether or not I workout..
Also, I have never been a big eater - i.e my portions were always very small but unhealthy and NOW I have to replace them with low cal stuff. I don't think I could eat more even if I wanted to since I firmly believe that I need to eat when I'm hungry. I don't like to stuff myself because I need to reach a certain number of calories.
So? I hope I explained myself better now?...

AND you're totally right about mixing up the workout!! This guy at the gym told me to try that and I think from Mid-April I'm going to do weights first to spice things up!! :)
