Before and During...Not Done Yet!!!

Ok - so Keith asked me for an update, I check over my computer and see that they only pictures I have are head shots (I was playing around w/the concept of straight hair) but I think that they are good to see the difference in my face - you can actually tell that I have eyes now instead of fat pockets where my eyes used to be. he he

I will take some additional pictures and post them - I just got under the 200 pound mark last week so an update is clearly in order. I am plodding away at the 5k training but I suspect that I am in for a rude awakening...just b/c I can run for a 30 min clip on the treadmill does not translate to success on the track. At this point I am just trying to get better overall and if I walk, then I walk. If I do better than I did at the one I attempted in 2005 (walked the whole thing, I weighed 275 lbs, in 63 mins) then it will be a success to me.

You gotta start somewhere, right? :)

Wow, absolutely gorgeous Ali! This is a girl I would DEF be talking to in a bar.

It does take time to build up stamina for the track, you should give the track a go, I have found the treadmill is sometimes HARDER than my run around the local park.

Ok, Keith, now you have OFFICIALLY made my day :) No one has said something to me like that EVER...

I have tried the track and the first time I tried it I was praying to die...I managed to have pain in places I didn't even think could feel pain. So I am a little gun shy but have to keep at it b/c I hate it when I can't do something...

Sometimes, stubborness can be a good thing ;)

Looking good! I'd recommend the track advice as well. I ran on a treadmill to begin with which was a slow but sure way to prepare myself for the real thing. After I began running on the track not only did I realize that it was doing so much more for my body, but also that in a handful of sessions my stamina had nearly doubled that of what it would have had I stayed on the treadmill. At this point I refuse to run on a treadmill, the only way that I will is if I cannot make it to the track somehow. Be very careful about running though, as you run and become sore the day after workouts, it is ok to return the next day, but don't expect to repeat the exact distance/speed/workout of the previous day. When you start, be sure to take breaks to let your body recover if need be. Sooner or later you'll be ripping through the pounds and trying for the 10k rather than 5 =). Keep up the great work!

Here is a picture from yesterday just to give an idea of how I look full length - sorry I look so rough - it was raining and my hair just doesn't deal well with moisture :) It was also at the end of what was a really really lonnnnnnnng day. At any rate, you guys get the picture...(no pun intended)

Seriously, what are you going to do when you get to goal?! You're seriously going to have to beat guys off ya... love the avatar pic still :)

Keith,

I will post a picuture of me every day as long as you promise to keep boosting my confidence like that!

I love my avi picture, I don't feel like I take good picutues (see yday's posting) and that one came out great...

I don't know about beating guys off of me but thanks for the lift!

Well, I am sitting here thinking, hmmm, Ali hasn't posted pictures everyday like she said she would. Here I am, an eager beaver, waiting... pondering... ;)

Just kidding... (kinda... creepy huh?).

How are things going with you?

Not creepy at all - I tried to take one yesterday and it came out really bad so I wasn't putting that on here :)

Things have been good, I got down under 200 which got me so psyched!! I haven't been there since the late 90's :)

I am starting to think about how I want to look when I get to the end of this thing...not that I am close yet but it is nice to be on the downside of it, regardless...

Other than that, work has been kicking my butt, I have been working my regular day and then coming back to get things done at night when there is no one here to bother me. I have been tired but you just gotta keep going, you know?

Thanks to everyone for all of the well-wishing - I will definately try to put some more pictures up...

I am also going to start a journal if I can get 10 minutes together to get it started :)

How's things w/you Keith?

I'm doing really well... almost near my milestone as well.

Is your daughter old enough to mention things about you losing weight? Does she understand it at all? I find it interesting what kids perceive and whatnot...

My niece hadn't seen me in a few months (my summer schedule was hectic, and I am a bad uncle) and when she saw me, all she could say was, you don't have your beard anymore. That is what she noticed, not the 60 some lbs I had lost... she was 4 at the time.

What do you do for a living?

Just the other day Abby looked at me and said, Mommy, your stomach is getting flatter...Ha - I was so happy that she noticed, but I was pretty surprised as well, especially since it has taken me a year to get to this point so it wasn't a sudden change or anything...she is 3 1/2...it impressed me anyway.

What I would love is for her to forget how I used to look and just know me as I am now. I never want for her to have to go through what I have in getting back to myself, you know?

I am a attorney at a small firm that does only family law (5 lawyers total) which is why I have been working my tail off. I love it, they are great to me but we are so busy that I can't get a break...

Do I remember reading that you are a teacher? Or am I hallucinating that (it could be sleep deprivation talking...:willy_nilly:

i am going to try to start a journal i think...haha, guess we'll see how it goes...

Of course he suggested that! It's his job to get you to buy one of those. I won't say I haven't considered it but most people who have gone through this type of weight loss experience say to wait one year after you've maintained for the "snap back effect". If it even occurs... it is a genetic thing on top of age. Then again, there have been people who have waited years with no snapback... and had the tummy tuck and LOVE it. It's a painful recovery and expensive (which I am sure you know from seeing the Doctor, I am curious of the quote you got).

And yes, I am a teacher... :) Spring Break is upon soon. BTW, it is awesome that your little girl noticed. That to me is the sincerest form of flattery... not from adults, but from children who see the world simplistically but without the filter of being socialized.

Keith,

I had consulted w/a different surgeon about three weeks ago and he recommended a liposuction at the same cost as this guy's tummy tuck (8k)...the problem is (and you can't see it very well in my pictures is that my stomach is a mess...it is all wrinkly and droopy (sorry for the bad mental image there) and it is almost like a separate part of my body, so much so that I am thinking of naming it :)

At any rate, he also recommended that I get to my goal weight prior to doing anything so I will have a pretty good idea of how things stand. I have not been kind to my body for a long time now and it is paying me back in spades...as much as I would hope so, I don't think things are going back to the way they were. That being said, I will keep losing my weight and reevaluate to see what looks like the best way to go.

Spring break, huh??? Ahhh I remember those days :) I think I need one at this point, I can't remember being this busy, ever.

Here is an updated picture...

My jeans are a little big but I think i cropped them out of the pic -if I made if so far away that you could see my pant, then you couldn't see anything else...

Things are moving along... :)

You look awesome my dear! :) You've slimmed down a lot.

Your face seems like it has completely changed since your before pics, imo. You kind of look like a different person. You definitely look younger but also softer and you have a healthy glow too.

Keep up the great work.

-Sam
