Before and After (285.4 lbs lost)

I've been on this site a while now. Since before I even started losing weight. I had a post on here before, but figured I'd do a new one since I reached my goal weight.

I started at 229 kgs (504.8 lbs). A big dude by any measure. I now weigh 99.5 kgs (219.4 lbs). That's a loss of 129.5 kgs (285.4 lbs).

For stats sake, I'm 6'1" (185 cm). 24 years old. It took me just under 2 years (started March 2008, my birthday). My BMI puts me at overweight, and I'm happy with that :D

How I did it? Educating myself on nutrition and exercise (Steve and Mal's stickies here really helped) so that I could make better choices. Basically? Eat less, move more. No programs, no diets, etc.

I just made a video that has all my progress pics, and you can check that out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xria_wfQEOw

If you wanna check out my journey, my blog link is in my signature. Feel free to leave a comment.

I was recently featured on t.v. in a couple of interviews. You can check them out here: http://www.3news.co.nz/Fat-Lazy-Guy-turns-slim/tabid/367/articleID/143260/Default.aspx

You know this already, but you have done a fabulous job! You look great and must feel great. I am so happy and excited for you. Wishing you all the best ahead... there is so much out there!

tell me more about the maintenance side of things for you??
(er did i mention thats insanely impressive and ur a bludy good looking fella)
i wanna know how ppl adjust!! i mean in all honesty, i was at the gym/working out for 11 hours a week to get to maintenance.
now i'm struggling to tell myself that 5 hours a week is enough, and then some wks i'm doing even less than that!!
should i just lower my calorie intake?
its just that some days that would mean only 1100 calories per day.
hmmmmm. would be innerested to know anything!!
u go...guy!!!

Some of us got a bit concerned about the lack of maintenance stuff on this forum with no changes to the forum structure to accomodate this area (the only thing there ever was was a maintenance club which I started) - so we ensured that there was a section on maintenance over on another diet forum.

We also ensure that pretty much all the challenges are open to maintainers too with points awarded for weight control instead of maintenance ( so a maintainer successfully maintaining is deemed the same as a reducer losing weight at a reasonable rate)...

In the past too many people abandoned this site as they got to goal - because it was no longer relevant to them. I still wonder how some of them are getting on... Luckily the approach means that maintainers are hanging around over there. Not everyone on ADF is from WLF - but most people are from here and there is most definitely the same ethical stance (Kara and I would never consider any other approach).

Sorry for not replying and updating. I've been busy with school. But I was featured on t.v. with a couple of interviews! Check 'em out if you want!

FLG!!! I missed you! I must tell you that I read your blog religiously and followed your Before and After thread on here. I was looking for it yesterday and I couldn't find it. I was so sad I thought you had left. Glad to see you back and starting a new "maintenance" thread. Good job and good luck! I'm rooting for you!! Will check out your links too :)

Great videos and inspiring story! You must be so proud of yourself for all that you have accomplished. I have followed your journey for some time now, and am happy for you. I can't wait for the day I reach my goal weight, although this journey is one that will go on for life. Thanks again for sharing!

You're a huge inspiration bro, you sort of look like a guy I went to school with in your pics, but not so much on television. By the way, your singing is pretty good too. I try to sing, but it sucks. I'm more of a metal man myself, so maybe I should just stick to growling.

This is just amazing. I remember when you and I were the same weight and i challenged to beat you to 300 lbs. I'm still at 360 working my way back down with help of a friend, and your all ready blew past 300 lbs. amazing job such an inspiration!

Dang, I'm sorry for not keeping up with this. Uni stuff is killing my internet time, haha.

Thanks so much! I'm still around, just not much :) The maintenance hasn't been going so great as I'm still losing, haha.

Thank you! On some levels I'm proud of myself, but it's hard to stay that way. I just feel like I need to do something more meaningful with my life, now. That's why I'm back at school :)

It is a journey for life, but there's different stages, I think. And this stage can be scary, but so far I'm enjoying it.

Ah, thanks very much! On both accounts!

Nothing wrong with metal. I like me some Killswitch :)

Cheers mate. Haha, I remember that challenge! :)

I'm glad to hear you're still working on it, though. And help is always good. You know everything you need to know, so I'll just say good luck, and I know you can do it, man!
FatLazyGuy--you're just awesome, man. What an inspiring video!

Looks like you finally figured it out and learned how to live!
Cheers!

True that. I haven't got it all figured out, but I've got enough to be happy :) I'll work on the other stuff later :D

*edit*

Ooo, just as an aside, I've now lost 294 lbs... I'm not trying to get to 300 lbs lost. In fact, I want to stay the weight I am now, around 210. I want to build some muscle now. I just can't be bothered reading about it. I wish Steve would give me a personalised plan, hehe. I'm just lazy. I could do it myself, but yeah, just lazy. So, no worries, I'll get around to it.
